to members that served our
club last year along with
bestowing our three pres-
tigious awards and we had
some fun too. Attendance
was in the mid 80s with 20Past Commodores in atten-
dance! Now for the

options for all the major work, present the options to you,and in the end, YOU decidewhat projects are done forYOUR club. I won't bore youwith all the minor stuff beingdone around the club underthe leadership of PC Chuckand Eric, but you will notice
differences in the lighting, restrooms, garage, internet, and other areas as they arecomplete. We meet weekly inperson or by phone so pleasefeel free to pass along yoursuggestions to me directly,Chuck, or Eric. My e-mailis [email protected] my cell number is

With low temperatures andsnow it is hard to get excitedabout boating and swimmingpools. But the various commit-tees, staff, board, and flagare all busy making sure thefacility is in good shape forthe 2015 season. My thanksto the many members who
volunteer their time so readilyand the staff, all who makemy role as rear commodorelook easy. I am pleased tosay the Planning Committee, under the leadership of PCJohn Bolte, will take an activerole in two major club pro-jects, the swimming pool pro-ject and the building pro-
ject. In addition to ChairmanPC John Bolte, the PlanningCommittee is comprised of PCJohn Kocher, PC Todd Finke,PC Todd Bickley, PC DougYoung, and myself as rearcommodore. Using their manyyears of experience and theircontacts with the membership, the board wants to be sure
the correct option is pickedfor the benefit of the entiremembership. It was decidedat the first Planning committeemeeting that the pool projectwould be co-chaired by PCJohn Bolte and myself. Johnhas been evaluating the op-
tions given by the various con-tractors and developing moredefined scopes of the variousoptions to send out to startsecuring better pricing. I amalso excited that fellow mem-ber Ron Zwierlein will be pro-viding guidance to the com-mittee as Ron was in the pool
business for many years andeven participated in the de-sign of swimming pools for theOlympics held in Athens,Greece. Some of you maynot be old enough to remem-ber the Olympics in Ath-ens. Once we get closer to afirm pricing on the various op-tions from a minimal repair to
a brand new relocated pool, the planning committee willconduct meetings with themembership to assure we taketo vote the option that YOUwant. The Building Committeewill be co-chaired by PCDoug Young and myself, andwe are evaluating the bestmethod to move forward. This
project admittedly fell behindwith the needs of the pool.We need to keep moving for-ward to determine optionsfrom doing nothing to a majorremodel. I again want to sayit is the committees andboards job to evaluate the

As I am writing this we are less than 90 days away from the Put-in-Bay Ice-Breaker. Time to start getting theboats back into shape. To this point the winter has not been that bad and will hopefully lead into a very nicespring. The finishing touches are being put together for the 2015 Cruise-Out schedule. I am just waiting to hearback from a few more marinas to confirm dates. When the schedule is completed, an email will be sent out sothat you can start planning your 2015 PCYC cruise schedule. Please contact me with any questions.Happy boating,RJ Basil, FCOP

Greetings to all PCYC Members. As Iwrite this we are still in Florida wind-ing up our Winter Sailing Tour! We
arrived in Florida before Thanksgiving
and have completed a number of re-
gattas from Tampa to Miami. While in
Florida I received word that JJ had
been awarded the George Schade
Memorial Trophy for Junior Sailor of
the Year. Without letting him know we
returned to Port Clinton for the Recog-
nition Dinner January 11, 2015. What
a surprise for JJ. The following Mon-
day JJ and I flew back to Florida to
compete in the Ft. Lauderdale to Key
West Race.
The Shark Perpetual Trophy given for
outstanding service to the sailing fleet
was awarded to Jack Clawson. Jack
has made substantial contributions to
the sail fleet with his assistance on the
race course. What a great accom-plishment by both Jack and JJ!
The Ft. Lauderdale to Key West Race
started January 14. JJ and I were
fortunate to have been invited to sail
on a J 120 on this popular race. Al-
though JJ has sailed across the Gulf-stream on trips to the Bahamas this
was his first competitive offshore race.
The race started off Ft. Lauderdale in
light northeast winds which built to 20-25 knots close to the wind. Most of thetop yachts managed to carry spinna-
kers all the way to the Key West Sea
Buoy then beating in light to medium
winds to the finish inside Key West. It
was a joy to compete in this race
again, especially with my Grandson
JJ.
I have completed most of these races
starting in 1976. For many of those
years I sailed my Beneteau 38 SeaTurtle winning the event overall in
2004 and 2006. In 2008 we did our
last race on Sea Turtle with Rob and
Kevin Kyle taking 2ndin the IRC Class.
I am happy to report Bad Fish the
Melges 32 from North Cape Yacht
Club took overall awards this year.
Holy Toledo the Hobie 32 also com-
peted placing 1st in PHRF Class C.
Nice job by both of these I-LYAyachts.
The 2015 sailing season is well along
in preparation. The I-LYA Travelers
Series dates have now been set and
we have locked down our primary
coaches Ian Kyle and Amber Waite.Additionally we will have specialty
coaches for our race team. Matt
Wenzinger is well on his way in lining
