DO I BELIEVE GOD HAS A PERSONAL WORD FOR ME
The key word for this Gospel healing story unique to Mark is a word that Mark does not translate even to Greek ldquoEphphathardquo ldquoBe openedrdquo The deaf man has not only lost the faculties of hearing but also as a result he cannot speak plainly This miracle story also reminds us of the Baptism ceremony when at the end the ldquoEphphathardquo prayer is said ldquoThe Lord Jesus made the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak May He soon touch your ears to receive his word and your mouth to proclaim his faith to the praise and glory of Godrdquo ldquoBe openedrdquo Jesus says What is it that prevents us from hearing what God has to say to us personally Is it fear or pride or a poor self-image Many of us believe that God in some way speaks to all of us in general through Scripture but not personally ldquoWhy would God be interested in s peaking to me personally WE JUST DONrsquoT BELIEVE that God or Jesus is truly concerned with me personally BUT HE IS EXTREMELY INTERESTED IN ME If we allow the Lord to pull us aside like the deaf-mute he will personally touch us Jesus will place his finger in our ear and with spittle he will touch our tongue In Sacred Scripture the finger of God being upon someone was indeed a sign of Godrsquos choice to enter a very personal relationship with that person Donrsquot be filled with unbelief but believe that God wants and desires an intimate relationship with you And he intends that you hear a very personal revelation The personal and incarnational touch of the Lord is especially experienced in the sacraments Jesus being totally human like us in everything but sin knew that we needed concrete and tangible signs of his presence The sacraments are those tangible signs In Isaiah 356 we are told that the deaf will hear and their ears will be cleared ldquoThus says the Lord Say to those who are frightened Be strong Fear not Here is your God He comes to save yourdquo When you and I have finally heard what God wants to say to us personally we in turn will be empowered to proclaim Good News to others May we hear those personal healing words from Jesus that we need to hear In turn may we speak words of healing love the words of life that others around us may need to hear Let us be aware that we may not get a second chance to tell someone that we care that they are special or that they are loved just the way they are Let them know that they are a blessing and that they are precious to you But the words that are most clearly heard are the words that we live by If I say ldquoI love yourdquo but my actions speak differently then my words mean nothing On the other hand I cannot truly love some-one unless I have first received that love from God who is LOVE Through the sacraments and Godrsquos Word those actions of Christ that we as Church continue in his name receive their spiritual form through the Holy Spirit who truly comes to us and sets us on fire with the very Divine Love we have received Today we might say that we live in the age of the Holy Spirit He is the very Spirit who anointed Christ and who now anoints us to be the presence of Christ in our neighborhoods our towns indeed in our world Fr Leo

Join the Childrenrsquos Choir
We are working out the safest way to hold childrenrsquos choir this year since choirs are allowed to resume in September It could
be a socially distanced rehearsal utilizing an empty church to allow for generous spacing or a Zoom meeting with Mrs Cross teaching some new songs Interested children and parents should reach out to Mrs Cross at pcrossshoplegacycom and she will send you the information and we can choose the best option for our children In-person rehearsals would be from 845-915 am each Sunday morning by the piano in the church At 915 Mrs Cross will walk the children to the hall to meet for religious education class if they attend at this time
Join the Contemporary
TeenAdult Choir
We are working out the safest way to hold our contemporary choir rehearsals this year since choirs are allowed to resume in September Anyone interested in participating in a socially distanced rehearsal should email Pam Cross at pcrossshoplegacycom and together we will decide on our safest path to returning to singing Options would include socially distanced rehearsals a possible continuation of Zoom choir or a combination of both
Eucharistic Adoration returns on Wednesday September 8th It begins every
Wednesday following Mass at around 1245pm and concludes at 300pm
Come and spend some time with the Lord
Effective Wednesday September 8th ndash Wednesday daily Mass time will
permanently change from 300pm to 1200pm
WELCOMING BACK CELEBRATION BEING POSTPONED TILL SPRING OF 2022
Due to the resurgence of COVID cases and its variants a show of hands was taken this past weekend to have a better idea of what at least those who attend Mass regularly thought in regards to whether we go ahead as planned to have the Welcome Back Cele-bration on September 19 or whether it would be best to postpone it till the Spring of 2022 The show of hands clearly indicated that waiting until next Spring probably in May or June would be better in the hopes that the positivity rate for COVID or its variants would have dropped to a safer level for everyone As pastor after much consultation I am deciding to postpone until May or June of next year The only refund we cannot have returned to us is for the bouncy house They said that though we cannot be refunded we can transfer the date of usage to next Spring The whole purpose of celebrating was to make it fun and enjoyable for everyone and to enjoy each others company for both St Marys and St Philips If those who are attending Mass currently are reluctant to have it in September those who are still reluctant whom we hoped would join us might be even more reluctant to join us this Fall Hence waiting patiently for a safer Spring is perhaps the better course
