GAIN A TRULYINTERNATIONAL
INSIGHT INTOBUSINESS ANDMANAGEMENT
At RSM, we define leadership as the ability to be a leader of people and ideas, a philosophy that is reflected in each of our
master programmes. Driven by state-of-the-art research, each programme combines a stimulating intellectual environment
with the opportunity to gain experiences in situations very similar to those you will encounter in the business world: working
and collaborating in diverse groups, conducting indepen dent research, implementing ideas, interacting in international
settings. We take theory and practice and offer you the best of both to enhance your business career.
All our master programmes have the following key features:
A mix of educational formats ranging from case studies and internships to group projects and individual researchu
Small-scale, interactive classes that engage you in debate and discussionu
Being part of a diverse and international student bodyu
Challenging academic theory that reflects the latest business and management thinkingu
Upon graduation you will have an internationally-esteemed qualificationu
Each programme is internationally oriented, taught in English, and tailored to fit the new Bachelor-Master structure
introduced by the Bologna Accord. All master programmes include the writing of a final thesis, which will deepen your
knowledge of research design, methods and skills in the field of management. Additionally, it will help you gain an
understanding of the application of research in various management areas, and enable you to acquire and apply the skills
necessary to write research proposals, including one for your master thesis. The master thesis is your opportunity to test
specific theories in practice – a genuinely challenging and rewarding pursuit. Knowing how to conduct quality research and
formulate your ideas and conclusions in a convincing manner are just some of the skills you will gain from this undertaking.
This is your chance to demonstrate your potential capabilities as a ‘next generation’ manager.
You will find plenty of information about RSM’s master programmes in this brochure and online, including first-hand testimonials
from students and alumni. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any further information to help convince you to
make RSM your choice.

Today, RSM has a full portfolio of pre- and post-experience programmes. With 8,500
students, it has one of Europe’s largest student bodies. The programmes are taught

(ERIM), RSM’s shared research institute, contribute to the improvement of business
practice worldwide in terms of sustainability and profitability. They publish in the
world’s top journals, act as consultants for companies, and teach our students.

AN ACCELERATED START TO YOURINTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT CAREER
THE IM / CEMS DIFFERENCE
The IM / CEMS at RSM is distinguished by its intensive education and relatively small
class sizes, encouraging students and staff to connect the curriculum to a broad
social context. In IM / CEMS, the intertwining of education and extra-curricular
activities facilitates the achievement of targets, according to NVAO (the Accreditation
Organisation of The Netherlands and Flanders), which has rewarded the IM / CEMS
programme with special recognition for this aspect of the programme.

keep to a general track for a broader training in all functions of business to prepare
for a career in higher management. If you did not go abroad in the first semester,
then you spend the second semester at a CEMS partner university.
Most students plan their 10-week internship during the summer break, and this
is where you really start to gather international experience in a country with which
you are relatively unfamiliar. This is your opportunity to begin building your
international and professional network. The third and final semester is tailored
to help you produce your master thesis, considered to be the culmination of the
IM / CEMS programme. It begins with a research clinic in international management,
followed by academic exploration and development leading to your thesis.
WWW.RSM.NL/CEMS WWW.CEMS.ORG
IM / CEMS students spend either the first or second semester at a CEMS partner
university. All partner universities share the same curriculum structure and course
design. A CEMS club at each university helps students to find an active social life,
and promotes the CEMS community spirit.
An intensive one-week block seminar starts the first semester of the IM / CEMS
programme. You take core courses covering the foundation of international
management topics, followed by one or two elective courses. Some students
spend the first semester studying at their exchange destination.
The second semester allows more in-depth theoretical specialisation while studying
and conducting a consultancy-based business project for an international company.
There is scope to tailor courses to a certain functional domain, and tracks can be

The classes in theA&C Master are of a perfect size and thequality of teaching is high. LIFE IN ROTTERDAM AND AT RSM
39
A GATEWAY TO EUROPE
Within easy reach of Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Paris and Berlin, the strategic
position of Rotterdam in Western Europe makes it a highly popular destination for
multinational companies. As a student of our master programmes, you will learn
about international business in the commercial heart of Europe – the largest economic
zone in the world.
IN A BUSTLING CITY
A former Cultural Capital of Europe, Rotterdam is a lively and cosmopolitan university
city, located 80km from Amsterdam. Rotterdam is renowned as a festival city with an
international Film Festival, the North Sea Jazz festival and Caribbean Summer Carnival
which take place each year. The nightlife in Rotterdam rivals that of Amsterdam – with
a hip and creative young scene filling restaurants, bars, cafes and nightclubs.
Urban life is thriving in Rotterdam, as upmarket shops sit side-by-side with ethnic
restaurants and one of the largest bookstores in Europe. Rotterdam is also world famous
for its daring architecture and experimental and influential contemporary art. See for
yourself at www.rotterdam.nl.

FEELING AT HOME
People from all corners of the world feel at home in Rotterdam. You will find there are no
language barriers as English is widely spoken. With more than 160 nationalities living in
the same area, it is easy to find a shop or restaurant selling the things you use at home.
A major airport and efficient public transport services make Rotterdam exceptionally
well connected. And with European gems like Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Paris and
Berlin close to you, you will find there is plenty to explore.
A LIVELY UNIVERSITY CAMPUS
RSM is situated on the Woudestein Campus – the main campus of Erasmus University
Rotterdam. As part of a multi-faceted, long-term project to further improve the quality
of education that we offer, the campus has been undergoing an extensive construction
programme since the beginning of 2011. It will be re-landscaped and ready for
unveiling as an updated campus complex in 2013, with the new Plaza building
containing student accommodation, underground car parking and a pavilion.
RSM students enjoy the benefits of a rich, multicultural university life that includes
a rich and varied calendar of social events, facilities including a sports complex,
extensive library, expo and congress centre, shops, restaurants, and the popular ‘In
de Smitse’ bar. All master programmes are taught in modern buildings equipped
with wireless internet, multimedia equipment, breakout rooms and computer labs.

AN OUTDOOR, SPORTING CITY
RSM offers many options for physical exercise and sports both on and off campus.
The city of Rotterdam has great sports facilities for everyone at every level; for
those who want to take part and for those preferring to remain a spectator.
The city’s sporting credentials include national and international events all
year round – a marathon, plus tennis, hockey, water sports and speed skating
championships. It also boasts several world-class stadia dedicated to the most
popular sport in the Netherlands, football. You can also take part in less typically
Dutch sports and activities including cricket, baseball, yoga and golf.
Rotterdam can claim to be a great outdoor city too, with abundant parks, green
spaces and a superb network of cycle routes linking it to open countryside,
thanks to the city's emphasis on enabling everyone to get around by bike.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
42
It is important to be able to count on a high return on your investment. Among the
top tier schools in the Financial Times ranking 2011, RSM boasts some of the most
affordable tuition fees. This, in combination with moderate living costs, top-quality
education and global reputation, makes RSM an excellent investment.
TUITION FEES AND OTHER COSTS
The 2013-2014 tuition fee for the MSc programmes is approximately ¤ 1,830 per year
for students who hold nationality from a country belonging to the European Economic
Area (EEA). Please note that EEA students who have already been awarded a master
degree in the Netherlands will be charged the approximate tuition fee of ¤ 10,050 by
law. For non-EEA students, the tuition fee is approximately ¤ 15,550 per year.
For all students, we estimate that you will need a minimum budget of around ¤ 12,000
a year to cover living and all other expenses during your stay in Rotterdam, in addition
to tuition fees. For non-EEA students: please ensure that you have sufficient funding
available for the duration of the programme. All students, with the exception of
currently enrolled or graduated students of Erasmus University Rotterdam, must pay a
non-refundable application fee of ¤ 95. This application fee can be paid online through
the Erasmus Payment System. This system offers applicants the possibility of paying
using either iDEAL (possible for Dutch bank account holders) or PayPal (which can be
linked to any bank account or credit card worldwide). For students entitled to study grants
from the Dutch government: you are entitled to financial support for 12 months only. No
exceptions are made for programmes longer in duration.
FINANCIAL AID
RSM has an agreement with the Nuffic organisation (Orange Tulip Scholarship, OTS
programme) and Ahold (Ahold Scholarship Programme), specifically for non-EEA
students. Please check the Tuition & Living Costs section at each programme page on
our master website www.rsm.nl/master for the specific application criteria. For other
