WHERE ARE YOU GOINGThe DCCFM Diocesan Commission forFilipino Catholic Ministries will be sponsoring
a Lenten Recollection on Saturday Mary 17th from 830AM -230PM at St Peter the Apostle Church in Parsippany Thepresenter will be Rev Michael Davitti SX All are welcome andencouraged to attend
Dear friends
Since we began the Season of Lent there have been a couple of liturgical changes at our liturgies I was told that during the Lenten Season there is a long-time praxis of walking in silence and not havingthe entrance and dismissal hymn as a sign of remarking SILENCE during this time of the liturgicalcalendar I think this is a nice way of being somber liturgically speaking during the Season
However there is also another praxis in our parish which I find inaccurate with liturgy This is standing to sing our thanksgiving song after Communion It is a beautiful song which is great to have during theLenten Season and I know people are used to standing while singing it Last week I explained at the1100AM Mass that the correct bodily posture during thanksgiving time is to be seated and that weshould then stand for the closing prayer I understand it is hard to change our minds but I ask for yourkind understanding While this seems like a very insignificant issue and standing or seating is not thatcritical I would like to try our best to do things the correct way when we celebrate our liturgies together I would also like us all to be on the same page Here are some tips from the Roman Missal
ldquoThe faithful should stand from the beginning of the Entrance Chant or while the Priest approachesthe altar until the end of the Collect for the Alleluia Chant before the Gospel while the Gospel itself isproclaimed during the Profession of Faith and the Universal Prayer and from the invitation Oratefratres (Pray brethren) before the Prayer over the Offerings until the end of Mass except at the placesindicated here below The faithful should sit on the other hand during the readings before the Gospeland the Responsorial Psalm and for the Homily and during the Preparation of the Gifts at the Offertoryand if appropriate they may sit or kneel during the period of sacred silence after Communionrdquo(Roman Missal Gestures and bodily Posture 43)
I donrsquot mind breaking the ldquosacred silencerdquo after Communion since our thanksgiving song is trulybeautiful and we use it as a wonderful prayer but I would like us to remain seated until the closingprayer of Mass I hope you donrsquot find this little change complicated and will help me to accomplish it
Our Lenten Season is going very well I am very happy with the 1205 PM Mass more and more peopleare attending The Stations of the Cross guided by different groups are going well also Last Saturdaywe had First Confessions with our 2nd graders to prepare them for First Holy Communion It seems thateveryone is making an effort to use the Lenten Season as a truly Holy Season
The Health Ministry from our Parish is also on that path They intend to make their Blessing Bagproject a success Between Arden Courts and Care One we have 120 patients and we hope to have abag for each of them by the end of Lent We are relying on the generosity of our parishioners and theirdonations to make this outpouring of love a success We need personal sizes of toothpastetoothbrushes hand cream band-aids talcum powder soap mouthwash tissues lip balm shampoocombs and hand sanitizer and socks There are bins at both entrances of the church for the items Also we are accepting monetary donations which can be placed in an envelope marked BlessingBags and put in the collection baskets Our friends from those facilities will be more than grateful foryour gifts
May we all continue our Lenten journey together knowing that our Good Lord is in our midst
God bless you all

FAITH AT HOMEMost families love to create celebrations aroundseasonal events Itrsquos wonderful to watch childrenget into the spirit St Valentinersquos Day Mardi Gras
St Patrickrsquos Day and of course Easter But what aboutAsh Wednesday and Lent We live in a secular culturethat focuses on feeling good We see celebrations asbreaks from the work of making a living and familyresponsibilities Itrsquos no wonder that Lent isnrsquot very popularBut we do need to teach our children the full message ofdiscipleship Itrsquos necessary to ldquodeny yourself and take upyour crossrdquo in order to walk with Jesus Keeping Lentdoesnrsquot need to be painful Family projects can turn thewords of Scripture into experiences that bring the seasonof penance into focus This is the opportunity to try newactivities that can make Lent a cherished memory
