SPRING IS HERE!
As I write this article there is a gentle rain which is falling. How thankful we are to the Lord for watering the land. We hope enough has come to make the start of the planting season fruitful. Many of us remember the Sunday School song: “Here is the church, here is the steeple, open the doors, and see all the people”. For many years the church has been trying to correct that perception. The church is not the building, the land, or a structure. The church is people. We are people in two congregations who have come together through the power of the Holy Spirit and prayer to share God’s loving ministry. Think for a moment of all the ministry that people are active in. Worship: Music, reading lessons, service preparation, service groups, Altar Guild, Dramas, choirs, bell choirs, Youth Leadership Sundays, bulletin prepara-tion and more. Teaching: Sunday School, Confirmation WELCA studies, Bible Studies, youth. Witness: Outreach to communities, quilting, new members invited, suppers and fellowship events. Service: Mission help to scores of ministries – LWR, Ronald McDonald House, home visita-tion, home communions and more. Youth Ministry: Sun-day School events, breakfasts, suppers, congregational dinners, Middle School Gatherings, High School Gather-ings. All this, and the many committees, councils and other groups which oversee the ministries of the Churches. The church is a bunch of kids gathering for a youth event. The church is sisters and brothers in Christ, praying and singing, and serving their Lord together. The church is a lady quilting. The church is men meeting to care for the maintenance of the building. The church is men meet-ing for prayer. In short, you are the church. Praise God for two congregations active in sharing and witnessing to the love of God in the Red River Valley. Take time to thank the many, many members who so ably serve. The mission of Christ is alive and well! God bless each and every one.
Pastor Janet Warnes
WORDS OF SPECIAL THANKS So much ministry took place in the month of April. Many thanks to all who were part of various mission opportunities: *Volunteering at the Food Shelf *Delivering Senior Meals *Helping with the OSL Spring Supper *Planning Sunday School Events *Helping with the preparing & serving of the Spaghetti Feed at OSL.
EDUCATION CORNER: Confirmation Classes Complete the Year in May Will our children have faith? Confirmation is an important Educational Ministry of our Parish. It means that you as parents care enough to place the Holy Scriptures into the hands of your kids. It means that you want your children to know Christ in a deeper way. It means that you love your kids enough to give them the very best.
The 9th Grade will meet on May 1 at 11:45 am at OSL to
begin work on the Faith Statements.
The 7th and 8th Grade meet at their regular times on May 4
and May 11, 2016.
Special thanks to the 8th grade for delivering Senior Meals.
OUTREACH: If you, or someone you know would like to join our church
family, please let the Pastor know so that we can complete
the new member visitation & classes. It doesn’t require a
lot of time, and we are always very welcoming of new
members to our congregations.

SPECIAL SERVICES in May: Inspirational Services You Won’t Want to Miss
Mission Action We have been busy. There have been appointments to keep which sometimes fall on Tuesdays, so at times,
there hasn’t been a “full house”. We have, however, filled a number of boxes already.
We were delighted to have Karen Pearson back in March. We missed her as she not only works, but we need her
height! She can put our curtain back up and get supplies on the top shelf without bringing over a chair to stand
on! Karen Larson rejoined us in early April. She was also missed, as she hand sews the openings shut on the quilts
as needed, a job most of us do not like to do. So we are grateful to have everyone back together.
Many thanks to Earl Johnson for making repairs to our sewing table; it’s now better than new.
Our five chairs with rollers were all in need of cleaning to remove thread from the rollers, which
Earl did for us as well. Our curtain pole fell down repeatedly, giving black & blue marks, lumps
on heads, and even bent up our eyeglasses at times. These things have all been taken care of;
ask and it will be done! Thank you, Earl and Linda.
Our LWR shipping date is May 7 when we deliver to Thief River Falls. Mission Action

NEWS FROM THE ‘’MOTO The Kumamoto region of Japan recently was hit by two earthquakes in Mid-April. We have received the following email on April 18th, 2016 from Jackie Bencke. There are also quarterly newsletters which are posted on the bulletin board at Our Savior’s that we receive by email. If anyone is interested in having emails forwarded to them, contact the church office.
Hello all, Many of you have been checking in to see how we are doing. I sent the last newsletter out before the second, more powerful, earthquake occurred. We have been sleeping under the stars at the park next door, or in the car, or in the house on the first floor. We sleep in our clothes, and with a flashlight and cell in our pocket at all times. This will continue for a couple of more days until those aftershocks settle down. For the time being, we are doing well, considering everything. I will absolutely fill in more details in an-other more formal newsletter, but at this point, we're still just assessing things and trying to make sure our house and family is safe. We have no water or gas, so that is a BIG challenge. Thank you for your continued prayers. It is a blessing to be able to serve here. It is good to be sort of the hands and feet of Jesus as we escort our elderly neighbors down long flights of stairs in the dark, or ride out to fetch water on their behalf, or bring some supplies to people who need stuff like toilet paper or batter-ies. Stores are mostly not open in our area and roads are packed with people heading out of Kumamoto or with emergency vehicles. Fortunately, our cupboards and fridge were stocked recently so we're still good in that realm. And if I happen to lose some weight, that's just gravy. One thing I cannot get used to is the constant sound of emergency vehicles and low-flying helicop-
ters. It's just as unnerving as hearing the house shake during a tremor. OK. That's it for my very quick update. I'll send more information on how we can work together to be helpful to this wonderful, broken, community. I took some pictures today, so maybe I can organize those as well. Peace to all of you. Jackie Bencke
