The Woman In Black

The Woman In Black is a comparison to our film orphanage, because it is a tale about an abandoned haunted house. We are also planning on creating a few minutes of eerie natural sounds to add to our short film, we have seen it work in The Woman in Black as a great deal of the scares in the film are based around loud and frightening music.

What Lies Beneath

‘What Lies Beneath’ is a very good comparison to our production, Orphanage. This is because ‘What Lies Beneath’ is a supernatural story about a woman that believes that her house is haunted by the ghost of her next door neighbor. It has the feel of a murder mystery however it has the added fright factor of the ghost victim returning from her watery grave.

AUDIENCE PROFILE- who are you aiming it at- gender? Age etc

For our short film ‘Orphanage’ we have decided that our target audience would be males and females aged between 15-28. We decided on this specific age boundary because it’s the one that we felt we could create a film to match our audience expectations.

We want to implement sound and camera angles to create our scares, as well as some scary sections in the film. The 15-28 target audience age relates to this because we also wanted our audience to be mature enough to understand the content and the underlying story to our film.

We decided to aim our film at both genders because otherwise we’d be significantly cutting down the already low numbers of our audience, and obviously we want our film to be seen as much as possible. Aiming our film at both genders also means that we can include more ideas and twists to the plot as we have different audience expectations to meet.

Location will be a factor to our audience, as because it’s a short film it isn’t going to appear in cinemas or on t.v. etc, we’re looking to display it at film festivals so our audience numbers will be reduced significantly because of that. However we expected this because of the length and nature of our film (student film).

Income is not an audience factor because all showcases of ‘Orphanage’ will be free.
