7. VOIGT SINGS WAGNER & STRAUSS Christopher Wilkins, conductor • Deborah Voigt, soprano

Deborah Voigt, the unsurpassed dramatic soprano of our time, sings luminous songs of Strauss and the sublime Love-Death from Tristan and Isolde. Love andtragedy commingle in Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet and Mozart’s dark comedy, Don Giovanni.

Cirque meets Symphony in this thrilling program featuring music by Bizet, Saint-Saëns, Tchaikovsky, Dvořák and others. Acrobats, contortionists, jugglersand strongmen perform amazing feats, and aerialists soar overhead as the orchestra below provides plenty of musical suspense.

It’s an “Upstairs, Downstairs” world – filled with seduction, lust, infidelity, love and forgiveness – all woven

together seamlessly with sublime music. The Count and Countess Almaviva’s clever maid Susanna and her

fiancée, Figaro the valet, plot to outwit the Count and his philandering ways in this comedy many opera lovers

consider Mozart’s most ‘perfectly’ written opera.

Sung in Italian with English supertitles.

PUCCINI: MADAMA BUTTERFLYChristopher Wilkins, conductor • Frank McClain, director

Butterfly, a beautiful young geisha, sacrifices her family, her religion, and ultimately her life for an American

World War II naval officer, Lieutenant Pinkerton. He takes Butterfly as his bride for convenience, with no

intention of bringing her home to America. The sweeping emotional power of Puccini’s music is unsurpassed

in all of opera.

Haydn enjoyed the perfect musical laboratory inEsterhazy. His prince loved music and generouslyfunded an exceptional orchestra. Haydn’s experiments could be outlandish, but theychanged the course of musical history.

Slavic music has a unique warmth and depth offeeling. It is often inspired by folk music, and hasbeen made famous by generations of great stringvirtuosi who have championed it. Tchaikovsky,Borodin and Dvořák lead the way.

Musicians of the Orlando Philharmonic are joined

by Central Florida’s leading jazz musicians for

This all-tango program features Classical

Argentinean tangos from the 1920s, 30s and 40s,
