The Wise Heart Community for Devotional Practice and Study is an interfaith group of seekers, striving through devotion, shared community, and selfless service to live life to good purpose and in the light of our true nature. We are rooted in the tradition of Satyananda Yoga. We bring our own spiritual traditions together with our yogic practices to create a rich mix of perspectives from which to examine our relationship with the Divine and with all of creation.

Devotees of God worship the pure, shining and beautiful Lingam. The destroyer of worldly life and pain, I bow to That Intelligence symbolized by the Lingam.

Divine beings and sages worship the Lingam and, through compassion, It bums up desires. The arrogance of Ravana was destroyed by the Lingam. I bow to That Intelligence symbolized by the Lingam.

That sweet-smelling anointed Lingam increases intelligence. Perfect beings, the noble and even the demonic, praise the Lingam.I bow to That Intelligence symbolized by the Lingam.

Decorated with gold and jewels, the beautiful Lingam is enveloped by a snake (Kundalini).Daksha's egotistical sacrificial rite was destroyed by the Lingam. Lighting the candles, incense and altar, sprinkling water at four corners of the fire, tilik Before we light the fire we invoke the elements of creation. Using a flower representing earth, we sprinkle water in each of the four directions. We light a candle representing fire and light in each of the four corners of our kund, and we light incense representing air and space in each of the four corners. Sharing of intentionsWe invite you to say the names of anyone you would like us to hold in our hearts and in our thoughts as we make our offerings to the fire this afternoon.

Lighting the fireWe light the fire with camphor. Camphor burns without leaving a residue, converting entirely to flame and light. This symbolizes the destruction of our egos, ignorance, and arrogance. As we light the fire, we chant the Agni Mantra.

Offering of sacred herbs to the fire We offer samagri (herbs and grain) and ghee (clarified butter) to the fire. Our offerings represent ourselves, and the fire purifies and transforms our

offerings. We chant a mantra 108 times as we make our offerings and after each repetition we chant “swaha”,which means “I offer.” You can symbolically make an offering as we chant by using a mudra.

Final offeringWhen we have completed 108 recitations of our mantra, we offer any remaining samagri and ghee to the fire. As we make the final offering, we chant the prayer for self-cognition.
