Also, I heard WIW waver while caning hane 11/22, so I warmed up the se t when I got home & picked out JBC-700 w/~orld Tomorrow @I 12:X)am. Also heard the same night was KSWS-1020. For those of you who are confused by Herbert W. Amstrong's brmdcast, write '?he Sword of the Lord Foundation" Murfreesboro, -nn. and ask f o r t h e i r booklet on him - 2%. There's a lso an a r t i c l e on him i n '?he Kingdom of the Cults" by Walter Martin, available st your library. I hope t o erect a Beverage antenna made out of tough baling wire. It w i l l probably be erected N/B. I ' m bwing a new RX t h i s Frid - an A l ied DX-150. My t a t a l s haven't been too bad with just IQJ ponable w ~ o p s t k k wj652 heard. JOHN OLDFIEU) - 11623 84th Street - Eamonton 20, Alberta CH~lC-860 Inuvik, NWT, heard three days i n a rar nar. They sure

sound l ike lOkw, although I've seen no CP l is ted. I f they are lOkw, t h i s mey just be t h e beginning of high parer i n Canada's Northland. A n engineer a t the CBC had mentioned they wanted FOUR i n t h e NWT & Yukon. That's CFFB CFYK CKAX & CFWH. I've written cFFB r e t h e i r I210 CP, which I think is a mis-print. I'd bet it 's f a r 1 , 0 0 3 ~ on the old 5202 spot. Concerning t h i s SILLY business of D.C., Y. T., & NWT. I count 12 prwinces and 51 s tates . W P is licensed t o D. C. How can it be counted as part of Maryland? My only N.J . catch is WPAT-930, caught years ago before loca l CJCA went NSP. My WADO-1280 verie counts as N.Y., a l - though t h e i r XR is i n N. J. Call it a Distr ic t or State - it's i n the U.S., isn ' t i t ? Prwince or Territory? The only difference is the lack of people (not s ta- t ions) . Provincial s ta tus won't change the s ize or shape of t h e Yukon. Are we DXers or pol i t ic ians? While we're on the subject, maqy years ago, a bunch of DX- e r s decided t o count the 1,000,000 square miles of the NGPT as om gigantic DX "Area". Before you "vote" take a good look a t your maps, and consider counting our big blob of the Nh'T as TWO DX areas - prwinces, t e r r i t o r i e s . The w o r d s NWT stand for Terr i tor ies , three big d i s t r i c t s ; not ow. Franklin has CFFB, close t o Greenland. MacKenzie has CFYK CFCC & CHAK (ERC'S semi-local). CHX has always come i n the same as Yukon & Alaskan s tat ions. Between these two d i s t r i c t s l i e s Keewatin. Nothing there, DX-wke. I ' m probably t h e only DXer counting 13 pro- vinces, but consider haw our ancient Gods of DX divided the USSR in to areas, for convenience. The NWI has s tat ions now, AND they're being heard! Next week's controversy is a discussion on What is a foreign station. I f you l ive i n Detroit & log CKLW, across the r iver , you have a deytime dmest ic , but i f you log XETRA etc. from Sen Diego, you've bagsd a bunch of foreign daytimers, hi. It must be ze language. 74. (s ic -ERc)

PAGE TAYLOR - Box 282 - m t l e r , New Jersey - 07405 Gadzooks! Great Grok! A Musing, f i r s t i n three years. SO I sup-

pose a br ief re-irrtro is i n order: I ' m 29 years old, married & teach elementary school vocal mx. I have been DXing since 1954 on an 5-85 a t f i r s t , & now an SX- '

130 since 1968. Until about a month or so ago, I had been using the World-famed Space Magnet as an antenna, but now, thanks t o RjE & Steve Bohac, I have acquired a REAL antenna - the fantast ic NRC Altaz! Briefly, som comparison notes: m r o x imately 40db gain on a l l signals with the FET Altaz over the SM-1, more TAs with '

readable audio, Middle Esst & Pacific inaudible on the SM-1 can be respectably heard on Altaz (~arawa-&4 S-4 het on SM-1, S-9 & audio on NRC; Kuwait-1345 a het just above HNL on S-1 produced a l0db o/S-8 w/audio on NRC. Long Live the FET Altaz! No, the SM-1 is N d for sale per rumor, as it is s t i l l an excellent l i t t l e grdget for such unforeseens as dead bat ter ies , blown FEI's & vacations. Allah has been good t o u s t h i s Ramadan with several new goodies added t o the log, notable b e i w the Kuwaitian on 1345 with "Joyous chantings per Quoran and snake-charmer f lut ines as accompaniment". (SO says my abundantly wordy log on them). ,.Speaking of Ramadan, am I correct i n assuming that a l l these chantiws, wai l iws & weepi= ere over the f l i g h t and landiw of a three-toed winged horse? UnID Depmment: ERC, your "cavalry Charge" is indeed "R. Globo", Rio, and makes for an easy ID for those neediw a Brazilian. Best time is, of course, SM when WHAM-1180 is off. They were heard MM 11/15 @ 3:45 EST. An SS on 645 w/frequent mentions of Paramay, Asuncion. Brand of SS was harsh-sounding, rather gu t te ra l & the f i n a l "R" and "RR'~ combinations rolled with great gusto l ike machine-gun f i r e . Help, REW &/or Cesar! A w i l d conjecture says ZP-16 off from 640?? Beariw: 160. Milestone: CountT #lo0 gotten with Kuwait; 25 more t o catch GPN! MM 11/15- WSLR-1350 s i l en t . I logged & taped s/off of KTOH @ 4 EST for second Hawaiian & obviously, f i r s t re- gional, h i - 73. (welcome back t o Musings, Page - please make it more often? -&)

No luck on the 1 21 OA 11 DX here. A s I write t h i s on 11/22 IW is t e l l i n g me t h a t the 11/21 A-index is t e n with the g e m a g m t i c f ie ld unsettled. The 11/15count was zero. Thereafter, 01, 01, 04, 06, & 04. N o t par- ticularl; . outstanding f o r low-haul DX, hi. Someone want t o venture a guess as to how VCAU-1210 can generate a signal on 1177? Only with the n u l l of my loop does it disappear, w/a 23/54 knocked down t o a 5/9 on the S-meter of the HQ-150. For- tunately it did not a f fec t the aiming for Okinawa as t h e two were a t r ight angles. This shows up regardless of which antenna I use - the LW, the vert ical , or the loo ( l a t t e r when aimed w). Re Giannini's (of Belleville, I l l . ) request i n the 1 1 6 3 DX NEWS M u s i r g s fo r FB l is t ings, etc., I collected a few: Princeton U., WHWH-1350. U. of Pa., WCAU-l.210. ( ~ n d 1177, h i -ERC) Villanova U., WAR-1110. For professional teams, Philadelphia teams, Eagles on WIP-610, 76ers on Wpm-950, Flyers on WCAU-1210. I have noted WNBC-660 carrying N.Y. Knicks and Rangers, ~ p p a r e n t b the former i f t h e two clay games a t t h e same time. I also noted WGY- 810 carrying N.Y. Knicks. I also think WCAU-1210 carr iers N.Y. Je ts , but I ' m not , positive on t h i s . They did last season a f t e r dropping the Eagles. And how could I f o q e t t h e N.Y. Giants? WNEW-1130 and WBCB-1490. 73. (N.Y. Jets on WOR-710-IAC)

GENE DeLORENZO - Eox 17 Roberts, Colby College - Waterville, Maiae - 04901 It's been quite a long while since I've been i n these pages -

l ike about three years. With school, BKB, e tc . qy interest i n BCB dwindled, but, t h d s t o a g i f t membership, I ' m back t o DX. I 've a l so got a new location & new to ta l s . From Hyannis over an ekht-year span t o t a l s were about 875 from 4.4 coun- t r i e s - so f a r i n Waterville they 're 109 f r o m three countries! I've been here since Sept. & have noted a lack of TAs - due t o mountains, I guess. Also, I ' m us- ing a Soqy portable M/FM that has good sensi t ivi ty and poor select ivi ty . b t s a hets on good days, but l i t t l e audio! E.G., I 've only heard audio from Iangenburg three times. Otherwise, domestic DX is not much different from Hyannis- more Carr ucks, and less water paths receptions. DX so far: 10/18- WSm-1050 6:30 s /off . 10/28- WMCR-1250 6:02. UnID-1030 w/religious mx & n U/WBZ @ 7: 56pm till 8 when it faded out or s/off, very weak & fady, not XEQR & seemed EE, but, no I D heard. (sounds l ike it 's got ta be KCTA -DC) Also that night un1~-740 w/Nfld. ER //-CBY @ 8:30, went r igh t over half-hour without IDing. 11/3- Daytime CX get l i v l i e r e a r l i e r up here - CHW-1350 @ 3 02pm, maqy other Canucks i n by 3:30 most every af- ternoon. 11/12- CJCH-9M 3:lfjpm, new WGRG-1110 ~ / ~ r o g r e s s i v e rr @ 3:30, WR-1420 3:45, TAs a l l over today ( j u l t hets, mainly) 1124 1394 1403 1457 1578 t o name a few i n by 4pm. Audio from what seemed t o be Portugal on 1034 @ 4:01pm, very good signal. That's it for "DX" ( i f you want t o c a l l it that!) from t h e backwoods of Maine. S o a ~ of the locals up here have t o be heard t o be believed! Particularly WGRM-1150 - and 1160,70,80, e tc . i f they're playing mx! And w thought WRKO was bad! See you men the t o t a l s ge t vay up there - how 'bout 200? elco come back!)

NANCY GANTZER - 67 Liberty Street - Fredonia, New York - 14063 It seems l ike a 10% time since I last wrote a Musing, but there

hasn't been anything interest ing t o write about. So, here's m1 recent meager DX: 11/7- WIRV-1550 QJ. s/off very good @ 5:32 w/no SSB. 11/14- KT'UF-1580 Ariz. .- DAVID F. GLEPSON - WUNO - Eox Q - Hpto Rey, Fuerto Rico I noticed t h e front-page blurb about a NYC get-together f o r

Jenuery a t about the same time the $100 round-trip t o S n Juan was announced - so I'll trj t o be there? Due t o my work a t WUNO, I hwe t o plan a l i t t l e ahead, soif a date has been se t , maybe you can l e t me know. Also as I've been i n NYC only orre i n my l i f e , I 'll have t o be oriented as t o how t o get where t h e action is (or d o 1 take a DF on WABC-~~~O?) A seiee of s t a t i c (the scourge of the ~ r o p i c s ) se t i n 11/10, & things are pretty awful - onky new catch is HJGI frcm 1360, on 1355 (m- isora Jose Antonio Galan, ~ o c o r r o ) very strong - it had t o be t o beat the static!

E D L E Y SIMMONCG - 1.48 Fairfield Avenue North - Hamilton, 27, Ontario I haven't written t o the Club in quite a few years - due t o the

fact I was working a steady night sh i f t for t h e best part of 30 years, so t h i s eliminated DXing as you w i l l agree. But I have received DX NElG i n order t o keep i n touch with what is going on i n the w o r l d of radio listening-in. I have Can-

pletrd a log of something l ike 2,861 heard & 2,711 verified. I have been l is ten-

ing since 1924 & can r e c a l l maqy of the s tat ions now defunct & spelrt many an hour l is tening t o the DXprograms while I was working day shifts but have done practic- a l ly nothiw since. I have now been ret i red by my employers since 4/68 & am m v rather lonely as I have had both my parents pass away - mother i n 1954 & fath-

er. i n 1960. I do not have any brothers or s i s t e r s & did not marry, S O YOU Can understand my lonliness. IXle t o t h e f.ad I ' m past 70 & not able t o do very much, only keep the house i n order & work around t h e garden amongst the few flowers we have had for many years, I do not, even now, do much listening i n a s I cannot af- ford the expense of writing for ver ies especially as I do not now receive U.S.. stamps t o send t o the s ta t ions as I was able t o do when WUrkiXIg & have not done s, since NRC mwed t o Cambridge fr m &Buffalo. Ray Edge, who w a s President a t tha t time, used t o send me U.S. stamps f o r my use & I kept him supplied with funds Po apply t o nv '%tamp Fund" he kept fo r that purpose. A s you know, he was k i l l ed on Columbus Day some years aeo while taking h i s grandchildren t o the Corning Works for a v i s i t . I m i s s h i s friendly le t t e r s , I can assure you. I did hear WAMB on 11/1, I was surprised a t t h e i r powerful signal, despite interference f r o m time t o time from some stat ion I was unable t o I D . This other s tat ion seertled t o be e i ther SS or PP but was not IDed by me. I've written WAMB but no reply yet. I heard several NRCers acknowledged by the announcer who gave the names- & towns of each who called. I em wondering i f you could send one of the NEW MEWEX KITS t o me? That'd explain the various symbols used i n DX NEWS. I received a sheet fran one of t h e o f f ic ie r s i n Cambridge sane time ago when NRC mwed t o Cambridge but I've misplaced it. I note some I do not understand, l ike "Ae". Please let me know the date qy subscription expires as it is not given on the notice sent on 11/23.

ERNEST R. COOPER - 438 East 21 Street - Carrier Route 56 - Brooklyn, N.Y. 11226 v/f f rom WYDK & KAYQ, heard while WAMB was TFSTing 11/1. They

say they me 250w a t night, beamed DUE WEST! Well, here's the act ivi ty fran here for the l a s t fortnight: MM 11/22- WCBS-880 off again, but doing a lo t of Tl'ing. No wOKJ-1550, they m u s t be AN-6. A very weak SS on 1550 @ 3:01, couldn't be logged - it '11 take a good Auroral morn. Somebody TTed a g i t on 1170 during tha t magic hour, 1-2am when both WWVA & KVOO are s i l en t , but no IDS. Somabody EPing w@lvis records on 1380 @ 2:21 & on, no IDS noted - who? The c/w t e s t e r on 1000 first noted @ 3:18 turned out t o be welcome WKBQ, Garner, N.C. 250w W i m e r W/ID

@ 3:42. Thanksgiving AM, 11/25- Two or three SSes and one FF fighting it out on 540 before midnight t o 1 & on, too up-and-dmey t o follow aqy of them. A very unique sounding TI? on 1560 @ 1:Ogam. WCRV-1580 was having a fun-filled ET w/two engineers exchanging small banter, @ 1:19 & on, unn. WOILT-1550 was quite gcod AN WHIY-1530's r/c-TT came through WCKY very well on an Auroraish AM, I D every min- ute. The tone sounded l ike the motor of a model airplane, not a d i a l tone! 11/26 - TEST i n f r o m w ~ ~ ~ - 8 1 0 , Md., quite fady, S 6-8 here W/WGY off. An SS s/off just ahead of the start of t h e i r t e s t on t h e i r channel. Nice timing, WYRE! MM 11/29- Nothine new, but t h i s is what was jotted down a s interesting. WMCA-TO, local, 4 off @ 1:05-1:09 w/three stanzas of the SSB sung by chorus! That weak SS on 1550 noted @ 12;45am but no dice again. No Sign of WGS-730 TEST - i n fact, no sign of CKAC e i ther ; only Colombia X M . Quite Auroral today. U r n WSER had a long m/m( on 1550, f i r s t noted @ 2:02. ETP-1500 has also dropped KI. - they now have a te le- talk show MMs. Remember 'Rello, Dolly"? Well, now it's "Good-bye, ~ o l l y . " A t e s t e r again on 1380 with no announcer on hand, with Negro vocals @ 2:47-2:53 & OC continued over the 3am conventional I D time without one. Could t h i s be WKKE? Well, lads, you sure did give me a S e a t section for t h i s issue - my thanks t o a l l - and now, how about resolving t o keep up t h i s g o d work? And may I wish you a l l a verf Merry Christmas and/or Happy Chanukah. Remember tha t Christmas morning is a da;' when almost every FFC runs AN, f i r s t with midnight Mass, then with gay Christmas mx, and mw LAs do likewise. Remember also WWVA is OFF l2/25, t rad i - t ional ly, a f te r Mass is over! C U N 7!
