To Our Wonderful St. Nicholas Family,
A million thanks to everyone who worked so hard over the Labor Day weekend to make our 2020 Greek Festival such a great success.
Of course, things were different from usual due to the pandemic: we were at the Family Life Center, doing curbside pickup only, without entertainment, using a strictly limited number of volunteers. But the most important things remained as dependable as ever: the delicious food, the enthusiasm and spirit of our volunteers and the tremendous support from the St. Louis community.
Thanks to all those who worked over the Festival weekend, as well as to those who helped prepare the food in advance and those who participated in the cleanup. Special thanks to our Festival Executive Committee and Steering Committee for all of their tremendous efforts in organizing this new version of the Festival for these trying times.
With love in Christ, Father Doug and Father Michael

Dear St. Nicholas Family,
Our Labor Day Festival is the beginning of our ecclesial calendar, each September starts with the
planning of our next year. 2020 was a challenging and unprecedented year, but in true
St. Nicholas fashion we make the best of a difficult situation, met our expectations and in some
cases exceeded.
We are among a very small group of churches that was able to host a festival this year. We were
able to continue our long standing tradition of sharing our food and culture with our
community, to share fellowship with our parishioners and help our financial status. This was
done seamlessly, with the hard work and dedication of the Festival Executive and Steering
Committees. It was a very welcomed reunion for the small amount of volunteers that were
allowed, due to COVID guidelines, to work the festival. It was heartwarming to be working,
although 6 feet apart, from our beloved parish family.
The Labor Day Festival grossed approximately $127, 000, expenses are still being calculated.
Our net for the Taste of the Greek Festival in July was nearly $37,000. Thank you to all that
supported and volunteered at both of these events. We are doing a third Curbside Festival
October 2, 3 & 4. Please share this date with your family and friends.
Plans are being finalized for the beginning of Sunday School, more details to follow.
Bids have been acquired to repair the plaster peeling on the west side of our church due to water
damage. We diligently try to stay ahead of repairs to avoid additional damage.
Additionally, we are acquiring bids to extend the fence and install gates on the west side of our
building. We have an ongoing problem with the homeless making their home in this area,
leaving behind filth, drugs, and unwanted debris, Chris Paradowski cleans without fail every
day.
At the 45th Biennial Clergy-Laity Congress, it was voted that “Due to the limitations resulting
from the COVID-19 virus, which impeded full compliance with Article 25 of these Regulations,
2020 elections for Parish Council membership in all Parishes of the Archdiocese shall be
postponed for twelve months.” In accordance with this administrative order, parish council
elections will resume in 2021.
As always, thank you for your ongoing love and support of St. Nicholas Church. Please do not
hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
Yours in Christ’s Work, Helen Yiatras Carey

October 2020 - Philoptochos Philanthropy Report
“Blessed is he who understands the poor and the needy” -Psalm 40:1
To all our St. Nicholas community, our Philoptochos members and our Christian friends everywhere, May GOD BLESS you and your families with good health,
happy days and may you be Safe In HIS EMBRACE.
Due to the Corona Virus Pandemic, we need to make the following temporary changes to our furniture donations program, clothing donations and food bags for the hungry. Below are the updates. FURNITURE DONATIONS UPDATE: We have been blessed to be able to assist the Prison Ministry, Focus, Our Little Haven, Haven of Grace and several other charities with our furniture donations. They have been so grateful for your donated items; some no longer have to sleep on the floor. Your donations are appreciated. Thank you.
If you have gently used furniture to donate, we will need to first see if they are on the Wish List of these organizations.
Kindly send an email with photos of your items and include a cell number and address of furniture location to Jeanne at: [email protected]
Currently, we cannot pick up furniture right away because, we need to contact these organizations to see if they can use your items first. Prison Ministry (Clark) needs to contact his ministry so he can use their truck and if they are items needed, we will contact him and give him your information and he will contact you to arrange pickup. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT CLARK FIRST.
CLOTHING DONATION UPDATE:
We will not be able to accept or store any clothing donations at the Church or FLC because of the pandemic.
Both Father Dare at FOCUS and Clark at Prison Ministry have been contacted and they may need men’s & women’s clothing more than ever, especially as winter approaches. Father Dare informed us that he will not be able to receive clothing at the present time but he will notify us when they can.
If you have clothing that Clark needs, kindly send an email to Jeanne at: [email protected] describing the clothing. If Clark can use it then he will contact you to arrange for pick up.
FOOD BAGS FOR THE HUNGRY UPDATE: We thank the community for your donations these many years. A special thank you to Gracie who prints the monthly menus & to Chris Paradowski who manages the storage. We will notify the community as soon as we resume the much-needed outreach program.
If you have any questions, please contact Jeanne Tompras at 314.994.7667 or Kim Tarlas at 314.740.0955 or Johanna Spanos at 314.966.5176. We are grateful for your support - thank you!
College Students/Parents of College Students The Ladies of St. Nicholas Philoptochos would like to keep in
