Jared Johnson
Jared Johnson has made his career working with non-profits in
the Quad Cities. He studied Communications at Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL, and spent his early career working in video pro-duction, graphic design, and PR. In 2006 Jared became the Direc-
tor of Marketing for the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, where he worked for 8 years. While there he was able to significantly grow season subscriptions and overall attendance; help to expand the season with the cross-over style pops concerts featuring the
music of Star Wars, Led Zeppelin, and ABBA; and re-brand the Signature Series, a chamber music series that still runs to this day. In 2014, he moved into development as the Director of Cor-
porate Support at WVIK, Quad Cities NPR. Today he oversees all fundraising at the station as Director of Development and Community Engagement. While at WVIK, he has grown Corporate Support overall giving to the station; spearheaded the launch of a new website and
mobile app; and is currently fundraising to launch a second broadcast signal in the Quad Cit-ies. When he is not at work, you can usually find him at a baseball field coaching one of his four kids, or at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Davenport where he serves as an ordained
Deacon.

This Friday at the Steeplegate
"God's Mercy Orphanage Center" in Kisoro, Uganda is looking for Sponsors for deserving children.
Let us introduce you to Uwayezu Proscovia.
Proscovia was born September 19, 2014, so she is five years old. She is in Pre-Primary which is like kindergarten. In January 2021, she will be in Primary 1.
Proscovia has a Mother. Her Mother's name is Jacinta and she is 27 years old. Jacinta was born into a very poor family of six chil-dren. She was the third born and the only girl. Her parents could not afford to send any of their children to school. They could not even afford to provide two meals per day. The family survived by working in peo-ple's gardens for a fee. They did not have any land of their own to grow food. Being a girl and not attend-ing school, Jacinta was vul-nerable for early, child, forced marriage. Her par-ents and older brothers tried on several occasions to force Jacinta into mar-riage, but she refused.
They saw her as a way to receive a dowry and their hope to get out of poverty.
One evening, as Jacinta was returning home after fetching water, she was attacked by a group of men, including her brothers. She was taken to a man to become his wife even though he was 15 years older than her. And, he already had a wife. She learned that the man had paid a dowry to her parents and brothers. The man turned out to be very abusive and a drunkard. Jacinta gave birth to Proscovia. Life was very hard. When Proscovia was two years old, Jacinta moved back to her parent's home. Luckily, her two older brothers had moved away, so it was safe to stay with her poor parents. Otherwise, the older brothers may have forced her into another arranged marriage. Jacinta learned that her husband had moved the rest of his family to a far away District in Uganda. She has been a single Mother since.
A good Samaritan enrolled her in a two-month course in tailoring. She completed the course, but she does not have a sewing machine, so she cannot start her own tailoring business. She works part-time in a tailoring shop, but is paid peanuts. However, Jacinta says it provides some money to by soap and items for her little Proscovia.
Proscovia will never be able to attend school unless she can find somebody to sponsor her. Would you be willing to sponsor Proscovia? If so, please contact Merle Anderson at [email protected] or call him at 563-343-1912 for more information.
Here is a picture of Proscovia and another picture of Proscovia and her Mother, Jacinta.

LAST MEETING - February 28, 2020 – Kevin Kellums: Family Enrichment Center Kevin Kellums and his team are attempting to eliminate poverty, one neighborhood at a time. The Family En-richment Center partners with Community Action to help underprivileged children in the less fortunate neighborhoods in the north part of Davenport. They recently started a hygiene supply closet at Wood Junior High that serves North High School, Fillmore, Harrison and of course Wood. Soap, deodorant, shampoo, etc. are available for students in need. There are no resources to purchase these products in these areas. Terracon partners with them for financial help. Kevin and a partner formed Wellington Toffee to make some extra money to support their many projects. Kevin has led teams to Uganda, Africa and Mexico to serve unfortunate youth. Approximately 90 attended on Friday. Thirty-two guests were present. This was the final day of the member-ship competition. The final numbers were sent out earlier in the week. The winning team was led by Tracy Lindaman with 28 guests in five weeks. Brad Burt came in second with 22 guests. Heather Wagner and Josh Cobie’s teams each had 16 guests. Tyler Bindrum and Pat Olsen’s teams each had 11 guests.
The 4 Way Test Of the things we THINK SAY or DO
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
