CELEBRATIONS

SCHOOL INFORMATION

Year 3 enjoyed their visit to the

Museum of Natural History this

week to find out about dinosaurs.

Maxwell is holding a dinosaur

tooth.

YEAR 3 VISITOR

Year 3 were very excited this week to have a visit from Mary Anning!

Mary was an English fossil collector, dealer, and palaeontologist who

became known around the world for important finds she made in

Jurassic marine fossil beds in the cliffs along the English Channel at

Lyme Regis. Year 3 asked Mary lots of questions to find out about

her life.

The easiest way to access everything on Parentmail is by downloading the App to your phone. This is available for

both Android and iOS.

NORTH HINKSEY INSPIRED 2

On Tuesday 9th October, North Hinksey will be celebrating the second North Hinksey Inspired. I hope you

remember last year with the racing cars, pig’s hearts, microscopes, 3D scanner and MUCH MORE! This

year is set to be just as incredible with special guests from the Bloodhound Project.

With the help of a parent, we are welcoming the Bloodhound Project to North Hinksey! The project

centres on the Bloodhound SCC, a supersonic car that is designed not only to go faster than the speed

of sound but to cover 1 mile in just 3.6 seconds. The driver, Andy Green, may even make an appear-

ance. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we are really excited!

Thank you also to everyone else who has volunteered- we have a range of scientists, doctors, computer

programmers, geologists etc. Thank you in advance. This year is destined to be the best yet!

The event will run in a similar way to last year; it will be hosted in the main building and you are free to

wander from stand to stand. The only difference is that the event will be from 3.30pm until 5.00pm and

children of all ages can come at the same time.

If your child attends after school club, a school member of staff will take the children for some of the time

so that they can take part if they choose.

As a competition, it would be wonderful if the children could try one of The James Dyson Foundation chal-

lenges. Please can you bring in a drawing or a photo of how your challenge went, with a write up about

what you saw or discovered!

https://www.jamesdysonfoundation.co.uk/content/dam/pdf/FOR%20WEB%20JDF_challenge-cards.pdf (Can be found by searching- James Dyson Foundation Challenge cards)

I can’t wait to see what you have tried- Spaghetti bridge? Burning custard? Marble run?!

We look forward to seeing you there for what promises to be a wonderful treat!

MACMILLAN

We will be hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday 28th

September 8.40am—10.30am in the hall, organised by Year 6.

Children will have the opportunity to buy a cake at break time for 50p.

Year 6 would also like to invite children to wear non-uniform for

the day, including something green If possible for a donation to

Macmillan. Cake and biscuit contributions will be gratefully received.

READING BOOKSHELVES This week we have received our first reading bookshelves returned ready for their silver award! Thank you so much for encouraging your child to read widely!! This is a wonderful feat and really helps us with encouraging reading for pleasure. I am writing just to say that although we are really happy to receive them, please can you help your child to choose

really challenging books which take them some time to read. We would expect a 'bookshelf' card to last most chil-

dren half a term (but we know we have some awesome bookworms who will go a bit faster than this) and some

children might take longer to read all those books. Completing the card is not a race, but we are proud when they

achieve it! Miss Piper.

SAFETY ON ROAD

Please be aware of vehicles moving outside the front of school at the start and end of the school day. The South

Hinksey minibus drivers have noticed recently there have been a few families have been walking very close to the

bus when it is moving or about to move.

RESIDENTIALS

Information about our school residentials is now available on the school website by clicking here.

ABSENCE REQUESTS

If you need to make a request for absence from school please contact the school office for a form. As you will be

aware, absences will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances. Holidays in term time are not authorised

under any circumstance. Term dates, including the 13 weeks of holiday, are available on the school website by

clicking here. Please ensure any routine doctor and dentist appointments are taken outside of school time.

HSA

Welcome back and a particularly warm welcome to all the new parents of those joining the school this year :)

As most of you know the HSA (Home School Association) is here to raise funds for the school by organising events

and other activities across the school year. Last year you all helped raise nearly £6,000 which is amazing and all that

money will go directly back into supporting the things that our kids want, need and enjoy at North Hinksey.

We can’t raise any money without your help and support so do please think about what you could offer. You don’t

need to join the HSA (unless you want to in which case we’d love to have you!) but you could become a class repre-

sentative, or volunteer at events, or even donate skills and services (e.g. does anyone know anyone who could run

the disco this year?!)

We’ll be holding two open meetings to try to meet as many parents as possible. The more help we have, the more

money goes back into our school.

Monday 24th September from 9am in the school hall with tea and coffee

Monday 1 October from 8pm at the Fishes with beer and wine

Please come along to hear about the events this year and give us your input! We look forward to seeing you there. If you can’t make it but want to be involved then email us: [email protected].

Co-chairs:

Eloise Goodhand (Mum to Evelyn in Y2 and Beatrix in Reception)

Rachael Monks (Mum to Matthew in Y3 and Lucy in Y1)

Sarah Moran (Mum to Caden in Y3 and Callum in Y1)

Treasurer: Liz Pattison (Mum to Tilly in Y3)
