The gallery is displaying the exhibition “Jõe pojad ja rebased” (“Sons of the River and Foxes”) about the animal of the year — the beaver, its wooden sculptures and its friend, the fox. In the belltower, there is an exhibition on ceramic brooches – “Tornimustrid” (“Tower Patterns”).

The museum will be displaying the one-night exhibition “Kannud ja mustrid” (“Pitchers and Patterns”)

The glass studio in the yard of the museum will organise a workshop on glass painting (participation fee: 1€).

Patterns formed with musical instruments

The museum was founded in 1982 by local historian and culture researcher Aleksei Parnabas (1919-1986). The exposition gives an overview of the peasant life in southeastern Läänemaa (Velise and Vigala Parish), the work and tools of local farmers from the mid-19th century up to this day.

18.00 Opening of the exhibition “Mustrid, mustrid, mustrid...” (“Patterns, Patterns, Patterns...”).

19.00 A walk around Hageri, photographing of windows and (patterns of) curtains

20.00 Meeting with a surprise guest; celebration of the birthday of the museum

The exhibitions portray a rural pharmacy from the first half of the 20th century and commodities of North Estonian peasant culture.

Visitors can play the 1-square metre large heritage-based board game “Angerja aare” (“Treasure of the Eel”) from Kohila.

MAHTRA PEASANTRY MUSEUMMUUSEUMI 1, JUURU. OPENING HOURS FOR THE MUSEUM NIGHT: 18–23.

Our museum buildings will be displaying various patterns of blankets and carpets from Estonian parishes.

The permanent exhibition introduces the 19th-century peasant life and manor culture in Estonia.

The temporary exhibition „Soli Deo Gloria ehk viis sajandit reformatsiooni Ungaris“ (“Soli Deo Gloria, or, Five Centuries of Reformation in Hungary”) by the Hungarian Institute and Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs portrays the history of Hungary (and Central Europe more broadly) from the events that led to the Reformation up to this day.

Atla-Eeru peasant tavern (situated in a more than 200 years old housebarn) is open from 20.00 to 22.30. For the Museum Night, the tavern will be displaying the exhibition “Eeru kõrtsi lugu. Kõrtsikultuurist Eestis” (“The Story of Eeru Tavern. Tavern Culture in Estonia”). The last extant peasant tavern and the tavern culture of Estonian peasants will be introduced by our head treasurer Rait Talvoja.
