Hello Swamp Foxes, Welcome to the April 2019 Newsletter.

Well April is here already, where has January, February and March gone ????. A quarter of the year has passed by.....Hopefully we have all had some time at the benches, I look forward to seeing some of your work at the next meeting, Wednesday 17the April. 18.00 – 20.00 at Lexington Main Library.

March's meeting saw 22 members attend, The President opened the meeting and First thing was Hubbeing presented with his Emeritus Membership and it is thoroughly deserved Sir. After which the President went through the agenda and any other business. Then it was onto the show and tell of Members models and we had a nice diverse selection to enjoy, some really great builds and in progress work as always.....

From the Front Office…

Howdy, all! On tap for April:

1. DUES: I believe most members have paid, but if you’re dragging your tail, now is the time to pony up.

2. JUNE SHOW: We have two months left until our June Show:

a. Keep asking for sponsorships! Shows are best done with Other People’s Money!

b. Raffle letters have been sent.

Page 4: NEWSFLASH April 2019 - WordPress.comApr 04, 2019  · Sikorsky UH-60L Blackhawk DAP, Marked as Super 68 from the Blackhawk Down incident from the Battle of Mogadishu. Sikorsky VH-34A

c. We’ve received the following Raffle Donations:

· 19 kits from HobbyTown Augusta.

· Advanced Modeling Products sent several raffle items.

· Aves Studios (Apoxie Sculpt), Bob Smith Industries (adhesives), and Xuron Tools have pledged product for the raffle.

d. Tim Darrah is down to 8 vendor tables (out of 60).

e. We have also confirmed four food trucks—Southern Mama’s Catering, Taste of Europe, Arepa Chef, and The Wurst Wagen.

f. I posted (again) to the IPMS/Region 12 Facebook Page, and e-mailed all the Chapter Contacts in the Region. I specifically asked for sponsorships and judges.

g. We have a sufficient number of medals for this show. We will have to re-order for the next show.

3. PROGRAM: Tonight’s program is going to cover a sticky subject—Glues and Adhesives. We’ll discuss what they are, how they work, and where each is best used. Next month, we will discuss the finer points of judging. We’re going to need as many of you as possible to judge the contest.

For the future, I need something from each of you: What do you want to see presented?

4. ROOM ARRANGEMENT: We have outgrown the “Round Table” style of meeting, and the currentroom set-up is the way it will be from this point on. We’ll tweak it as needed. Tonight, we’re moving the display table to the front of the room (in front of the head table); the seating arrangement will be thesame.

When you come up to share what you’ve done, please come up to the table, face the audience, and speak, just like “Show-and-Tell”. If you don’t face the audience, and if we can’t see your model, it becomes simply “Tell”.

5. MODEL INFORMATION SHEETS: Please remember to fill out the Model Information Sheet and bringthem with you. John will make those a permanent page of the newsletter. I will bring some with me, but if you have the wherewithal to do so, please print them out.

6. UPCOMING EVENTS: The sole upcoming show in our Region is the IPMS/Eagle Squadron’s RDUCON on 4 May. The venue is the Wake Tech Community College. Additional information can be found here: http://www.ipmseaglesquadron.org/rducon2019

The IPMS Region 12 Regional Show will be held in Simpsonville, hosted by IPMS/Piedmont Scale Modelers. It will be at the Simpsonville Parks and Rec Center. Additional information can be found at https://psmregion122019.wixsite.com/mysite

The 2019 IPMS/USA National Convention will be held in Chattanooga, at the Chattanooga Convention Center. Details on their website: http://www.ipmsnationals.com/

We will be sending sponsorships to all three events.

7. CLUB SHIRTS—PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: I will be ordering club shirts this week. So far, I only have the quote from Pine Press Printing, but I have also looked at 4imprint.com—price-wise, 4imprint has the best pricing, but Pine Press is local. I’ll share the numbers and we will discuss.

These (Pine Press and 4imprint.com) are the only bids for shirts that we will entertain.

Page 5: NEWSFLASH April 2019 - WordPress.comApr 04, 2019  · Sikorsky UH-60L Blackhawk DAP, Marked as Super 68 from the Blackhawk Down incident from the Battle of Mogadishu. Sikorsky VH-34A

Nobody else has provided the information we have asked for in a timely manner, and I believe I have given all parties more than adequate time to do so.

In other words, any and all other outstanding requests for shirt quotes are no longer being considered.I cannot wait any longer to order shirts if we hope to have them before the June show. Discussion about club shirts began late last year and I believe we have been more than patient with these firms who claim they want our business. They haven’t come through, so as far as I am concerned, they don’twant our business that badly.

8. AREA CLUBS: Don’t forget the other modeling organizations area:

a. SCMA, First Monday of the month, 7PM, Genova Karate, 169-B Hwy 378 West, Lexington.

b. AMPS Central South Carolina, Second Tuesday of the month, 6:00 PM, Richland Library, 763 FashionDrive, Columbia. Note the change of time to 6PM, and the change of day from Thursday to Tuesday.

IPMS JUDGING SURVEY

An official survey of the membership to ascertain preference of GSB and 123 judging systemsis now under way. THIS IS AN OFFICIAL SURVEY TO SUPPLY CURRENT INFORMATION TO THE E-BOARD, NOT A PROPOSAL. There is NO effort I am aware of to change the way IPMS/USA judges our contest. The purpose of this e-mail is to inform the membership ofthe survey. As part of the survey, we have provided basic, unbiased descriptions of both GSBand 123 systems that will be included in the April/May issue with the survey card to include non-computer folks. Full details of the survey can be found here: SURVEY Voting will take place via a survey card in the April/May 2019 issue of "The Journal", at the nationals in Chattanooga this summer, and now on-line on the election ballot. The survey will also be printed at the bottom of the model registration forms at the national contest to best insure the maximum participation of the membership. The survey, questions, 1-2-3 and GSB descriptions, were composed by a group of volunteers with oversight from Ron Bell, the E-board, with participation from Mark Persichetti, Chief Judge for IPMS/USA and the NCC. ON-LINE VOTING IS NOW ACTIVATED! Members may vote for their choice on the survey when voting in the general election. The instructions are here: https://voting.ipmsusa3.org/content/activate-your-account. The only way you can vote on the survey on-line is register to vote in the general election.

Hey Ralph,

My name is David Bennett and I am the president/creator/whatever of the ModelWorx Model club in Raleigh, NC. I started the club way back in 2010 to focus on models based on sci-fi, horror, fantasy, mecha, Kaiju, etc. ModelWorx has recently branched out and we now have a Charlotte chapter as well.

I’m reaching out to you today to let you know about an upcoming event we are doing and hoping you will spread the word among your chapter members.

On Saturday, May 18th we will be having a build day, meet up and showcase for our clubs, ModelWorx Raleigh & ModelWorx Charlotte, and the North Carolina Gundam Model Community.

This event will be held at the spacious home office of Holy Mountain Printing in Raleigh. Check out their site listed below to see all they do and especially their new monster shirts! This is a great, open space with plenty of room for tables to display your work and build something new. The space is currently displaying a Kaiju art show and an 8’ MechaGodzilla. That alone makes it worth the trip!

I hope this will be the first of many events we do in conjunction with the Gundam community. This group grew from our first build day a few years back and with Joel, Luke and others at the helm, they have exploded into a strong and very active community of model builders that meet weekly at our host store, Hangar 18 Hobbies. If you know anyone in your chapter that’s interested in these genres or any others, you are welcome to come to this event.

If anyone can make it, please let us know so we can get a somewhat accurate head count and know how many tables to set up. Right now we’re looking at 8-10 tables, 8’ long, but we have room for more if need be. We want to be sure we have plenty of room to work and hang out.

There may also be some hobby shops setting up there with things for sale as well. There is also an event posted on FaceBook with some more info about activities for this: https://www.facebook.com/events/444016139674590/ SUMMARY:WHEN: Saturday, May 18th from 12:00 -8:00pm.WHERE: Holy Mountain Printing @ 2810 Yonkers Road, Unit D, Raleigh, NC 27604https://holymountainprinting.com/https://www.facebook.com/HOLYMOUNTAINPRINTING/DINNER: Dinner will be whatever you like. We might order pizza or you can run out and grab something on your own. I really hope to see some of you there. If you have any questions just shoot me an email. Thanks,Dave Bennett
