GLENVIEW-NORTHBROOK CORONAVIRUS TASK FORCE UPDATE #8

April 24, 2020 – This week’s updates from the Glenview/Northbrook COVID-19 Task Force are brief but important. Please share this information and our website (glenviewnorthbrookcoronavirus.info) with your family, friends and neighbors. Governor Extends Stay-at-Home Order On Thursday, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced he will sign a modified version of the state’s stay-at-home order that will go into effect on May 1 and extend through the end of May. You can read the details of the order here. In summary, modifications in the new extended order will allow:

• Hospitals and surgi-centers to resume certain elective procedures • Retail stores not considered essential to take orders online for pickup or delivery • Greenhouses, nurseries and garden centers to open • Some state parks to be reopened in phases for hiking, fishing and boating with

no more than two people • Schools to establish procedures and allow pick-up of necessary supplies and

student belongings All of our organizations will share the details of the impact of this order on our operations with our constituents in separate communications. Statewide Face Covering Requirement The Governor’s orders also will require individuals to wear a face covering when in a public place where they can't maintain a six-foot physical distance. The Illinois Department of Public Health recently shared this information on wearing masks and other face coverings.

Update from NorthShore University HealthSystem NorthShore University HealthSystem reports that the percentage of positive COVID-19 test results is creeping up, in part because of the outreach that they are doing to encourage people who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 to be screened. The hospital system is increasing its direct engagement with senior care facilities, and is continuing its outreach to other organizations.

Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 Superintendent, Dr. Brian Wegley reports to staff, “As challenging as this time is, your work with our students is inspiring. I am also touched almost daily by caring acts in our community. One example was highlighted by the following email received by our administrative team: “My name is Palak Shah, I am Ronir Patel’s (Maple School-6th) and Ariana Patel’s (Willowbrook School-3rd) mom and I’m a Healthcare worker in Surgery at Cook County Health. I have been meaning to email you this picture of my team of Residents. We are part of a group who were recent recipients of District 30’s generous donation of goggles that are keeping us safe!”
