Step 1: Choose the right study visa
New Zealand has different education levels.The level 7 (bachelor’s degree and graduate diploma), level 8
(postgraduate diploma), level 9 (master’s degree), and level 10 (doctoral degree) falls under one category
when you are applying for a visa.

New Zealand student visa is divided into the following categories:
· Dependent Child Student Visa
If a student is a dependent of parents who are working in New Zealand and hold a New
Zealand post study work visa, the child can apply for Dependent Child Student Visa.
Students don’t have to pay for their school tuition fees for primary or secondary school
because they are treated as New Zealand domestic student. The maximum duration for this
visa will be the same duration as their parent’s visa.
Fee Paying Student Visa
If you are enrolled with an approved intuition for undergraduate and graduate courses and
are paying the cost of your course fee, you need to apply for this visa. The maximum
duration of this visa is 4 years.

· Exchange Student Visa
If you have been accepted into any of the approved full-time student exchange programmes, you have to apply for
this visa. Basically, it depends on the length of your exchange programme.The maximum duration varies up to 4
years.

Foreign Government Supported Student Visa
If you have an Indian government loan/scholarship for your full-time study in New Zealand, you can apply for this
visa. The maximum duration for this visa is also 4 years.

Step 2: Gather all the essential documents for
visa application
Essential documents required for the application are:
· All academic documents 10th onwards till the latest qualification (all the copies must be attested)
· CV with work experience letter (if applicable)
· SOP and LORs
· You must have applied for a full-time educational programme/course, from an institution or
university approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.
· A valid passport, for at least 3 months after your estimated studies completes.
· IELTS score, having band 6 or more.

· If you want to Study Abroad in New Zealand for more than 2 years, you must not have a criminal
record.You have to submit a Police clearance certificate as proof:
o International students above 17 years of age must provide the Police Clearance
Certificate.
o The certificate must be the latest one, not older than 6 months at the time of submission.
o The certificate must have been issued from the Regional passport office (the passport
office which has issued the student’s passport) of the Ministry of External Affair or from the
office of Deputy Commissioner of Police.
· If the duration ofyour studies is more than 6 months,you have to undergo a tuberculosis screening test and
you must be free of any serious long-term illness. Submit a medical certificate and an X-ray certificate. The
health requirements for the visa are:
o A fully completed medical and a temporary entry X-ray certificate form NZIS 1007 and
any associated medical and laboratory reports.
o Submissions of TB screening and report and/or full medical report(as applicable) is a
mandatory lodgment requirement.
o Pregnant women and children under the age of 11 are not required to have an X-ray
examination.
o The medical certificates must be issued by one of the doctors amongthe panel of doctors
approved by the New Zealand Immigration department.
o The report is valid for 3 Months from the date of issuance

Step 3: Application submission
Once you have completely and duly filled the INZ 1012 study visa form, available online on official New
Zealand Immigration website and cross checked the checklist available from the site, attach the checklist
and submit your application form along with the required documents mentioned in the checklist. Your
application will be rejected if your application form is incomplete or you have failed to submit any of the
essential documents.
Step 4: Receive your Acknowledgement/Receipt
Once you successfully lodge your applications, you receive a receipt/acknowledgement through
mail confirming the receipt of your study visa application.

Step 5: Wait for visa decision
Overall, it takes minimum 1 month for the application process to complete. Please note that the student
may be required to attend a telephonic interview. An immigration officer may contact the student for an
interview. The purpose of an interview is to help the Foreign Education in New Zealand immigration
department make a decision on the student’s application and to make sure that the student won’t breach
the conditions required for the study visa.
Step 6: Check you visa status
To check the final status of paper-based applications submitted to a TT Services, you can click on
‘Tracking Your Application’on their website. The final result will be either VISA GRANTED or VISA
REJECTED.

Step 7: Arrival in New Zealand
You have to follow the following requirements when you are Study Overseas in New Zealand, otherwise,
your study visa may be revoked if you:
