Spain is to eat twelve grapes to the pace of twelve chimes that mark the beginning of the first day of
the new year.
The typical Noche Vieja´s dinner
The typical dinner for Noche Vieja begins with sweet Christmas specialities: marzipan,
polvorones, generally mixed with cookies, pastry, nollos, etc.
The main dish is usually fish or shellfish. Other people prefer meat, especially lamb.
The moment to take the grapes
when the great moment to take the grapes approaches, people get ready and impatient for the chimes to sound. Then they eat their twelve
grapes one by one at the pace of the twelve chimes. Be careful not to choke!
