Successful Stories – Megan & Olly Hi we’re Megan and Olly! Megan is a kiwi that grew up in Christchurch and has
lived in Asia and the U.K.Olly is a Brit that has lived in the Middle East before
finding a home here in NZ. A year ago we sold our house and left Wellington
with all the intentions in the world of moving to Melbourne, with just a little bit of
travel in between.
We started with a lovely road trip around the South Island, which ended here in
Nelson. At that time we fell in love with the place and said we could happily stay.
However, we already had flights booked to South America! During six months
backpacking around an amazing continent we had a lot of time to reflect on
where our lives were heading. The place we kept thinking about as somewhere we could have a different way of living
was Nelson….and here we are!
We’re only one month in but so far we already believe we made the right decision. Everyone is super friendly with all
that you need on the doorstep. Best of all, living right in town means we feel very much in the heart of the city. We
realised early on that if we are to feel at home here then we would need to know more people that just the two us.
Discovering Nelson Newcomers has been a great way to do that as we’ve already met some lovely people, and that
was just at the Bar Berlin Newcomers drinks!
We both love the outdoors and were original members of a group called Adventure Wellington. This was an awesome
way to meet others and be active at the same time, so we have decided to bring it here by starting Active Nelson
Meetup. Still in its early stages we’re keen for new members to join and share their ideas for everything from walking,
biking, camping to picnics, community events and pub quizzes! So feel free to join us or create your own
event:http://www.meetup.com/Active-Nelson/
We hope to see you there!
November Film Nights a Hit! On 8th November, about 9
folk came to Caroline’s
house for some food & a
movie. We managed to find
something that appealed to
all ages – Skyfall.
On Tuesday, 13 of us met for pizza at
Stefano’s above the cinema. It was great
to meet so many different people from
several countries. Some guys got
together and talked about good fishing &
diving places; Olly taught Judy how to
look up film reviews on her new phone;
Julie & Megan planned some river tubing;
Peter, Rebecca & Mauricio discussed
communication techniques, especially for
understanding Kiwis. Then we went to
4 different films, including the brilliant
Catching Fire.
