1. Dance in the White House
Diana, Princess of Wales, visited the United States in early November 1985 with her husband Prince Charles. The couple stayed at the White House for a gala dinner on 11th November. John Travolta was there and asked Princess Diana to dance “Saturday Night Fever” with him. She accepted. After the incredible dance, everybody clapped. They called Princess Diana’s dress the Travolta dress.
2. The Great March on Washington
On Tuesday August 27, 1963, thousands of Americans marched to Washington. They protested for jobs and freedom. The following day Martin Luther King delivered his famous speech “I Have a Dream”. They didn’t like racism.About 250,000 people participated in the march, mainly black people. After the march, the nation changed the law.
3. Coronation Day
Elizabeth celebrated her Coronation Day in London. On 2nd June 1953, she passed in procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey in her Gold State Coach. About 3 million spectators were in the streets of London. Citizens commemorated that day with parties in the street. Journalists filmed a coronation ceremony for the first time.
