As we spend most of our waking lives within the workplace, the office has become not only a place where personnel should feel comfortable but reflect the ethics and personality of that company.

OFFICE RETAIL

We all love to shop. We love to design retail interiors which reflect people’s lifestyle aspirations and display products in an exciting, intelligent way.

RESTAURANTS / BARS

Eat, live, enjoy, a good restaurant creates spaces with an unforgettable atmosphere to compliment the food experience. The design also should promote the personality of the restaurant.

HEALTH CARE

Fresh designs and careful thinking create stand out health care interiors, without losing focus on HTM regulations and making the users feel comfortable.

BRANDING & OTHER

Our design encapsulates more than interiors, in order to ensure a constant brand and product image. We understand the importance of branding and work closely with many clients to ensure their brand and interiors work together.

- Other design areas include Exhibition design, POS items and bespoke furniture.

RESIDENTIAL

The home should be a place to ex press our individual personalities, as well as always be the welcoming flexible space that allows contemporary living.

HSBC House, St. Helier - 55,000sqft Capacity 600 personsCompleted 2001Concept: HSBC House is a 6 storey office development designed and fitted out for HSBC. The brief was to create a modern vibrant work area for up to 500 members of staff, complete with staff café area. HSBC have a very strong brand image and this also had to be carefully integrated into the overall scheme. The building contains many different departments on large open plan floors. Centralised meeting rooms and breakout areas on each floor carefully divide the space without losing the feeling of an open plan space. The work areas are kept to each side of the building to take advantage of the natural daylight from the large expanse of window glazing. The Esplanade section of the building on all floors contains much of the cellularised elements such as the management offices and boardrooms etc, which also take advantage of the stunning views over St Aubins Bay and The Waterfront. Staff facilities also include a serviced staff café on the ground floor for approx 50 people adjacent to the water features in the award winning landscaped courtyard.

HSBC Grenville Street, St. Helier - 25,000sqft Capacity 180-230 personsCompleted 2006A full refurbishment of HBSC Private bank was completed in Spring 2006. The works were carried out over a period of 10 months using a phased program to enable our client to occupy the building on predetermined floors throughout the contract. The design was driven by the strong corporate identity of the client’s business using a pallet of approved finishes to create a fresh interior for an increased staff occupancy of 207 people (from approx 180), and with potential expansion to 230 people. Whilst working within the dual constraints of HSBC’s corporate design guidelines and the difficult phasing constraints of the existing floor plates, we were able to improve the working environments significantly and to help brighten up the ancillary amenity areas at the same time.

WHY CHOOSE US - TRACK RECORD OFFICES

Barclays Group, Various projects 2006 - PresentAt the beginning of 2006 Naish Waddington Interiors formed a relationship with the Barclays Group. Over the course of the year we provided assistance with the in house WebCoRE plans by carrying out updates to local premises and surveying the existing Isle of Man, and Glasgow properties. Concepts for refurbishment were prepared for Isle of Man reception areas and staff facilities in the latest 3dimenisonal software. Within the Island we acted as the Designers and Contract administrators for the consolidation project, which aimed to release the freehold property by re planning the remaining 3No. premises along with updating the finishes in line with the evolving design guide. The drawings included preferred team adjacencies and detailed the phasing required to enable the business functions to continue at all times.

Rathbones House, St. Helier - 35,000sqft capacity 150 personsCompleted 2002

Concept: As lead interior design consultants, we liaised closely with the occupants of this Naish Waddington architects designed building, selecting a complimentary range of furnishings and finishes for their client facing areas. The clean lines and minimalist style of the interior and architecture offer dynamic perspectives throughout, and the installation of a substantial collection of contemporary artwork, produced by a local artist, creates an environment which blurs the boundaries between workspace and contemporary art gallery. Office floor plates were planned out to maximize daylight for all occupants, as well as to exploit the circulation space to maximum effect- creating break-out spaces off the open plan corridors; offering the Possibility of an impromptu meeting and discussion with a colleague- all good for business. A dramatic open plan mezzanine space creates a sensational feeling of light and space, and staff well-being is further benefited by the wonderful, sunlit roof terrace sweeping across the Esplanade façade four floors up. We have always believed that better design means better business.

CPA Global headquarters, Liberty wharf, St. Helier - 40,000sqft Capacity 300 personsCompleted 2009

Concept: Drawing on the islands natural beauty and various elements of land and sea, three individual palettes were the inspiration to create three distinctive characters for each of the three floors occupied by CPA and their offices. The concept of a democratic office, with social circulation and break-out areas, was pushed to the point where CPA rejected the developers cupboard-sized coffee-points in favour of proper centralized café areas- with the best views in the building. Fridges were provided for the staff to store their lunchtime shopping and Internet points provided. Technology and bespoke manufactured furniture were used to ensure a finish, which was both unique and fresh. The business needs of CPA we re carefully researched and tailored to suit their specific needs, and an internal environment was created that is efficient and promotes staff well-being and better business.

Benest & Syvret, 16 Hill Street, St. Helier - Listed BuildingCompleted 2010Concept: A gem in Jersey’s history, No.16 Hill Street is a registered SSI that justified sympathetic workmanship to maximise the decorative gifts already provided. The design brief was to provide a building that supported Benest & Syvret through its next generation whilst not loosing sight of its extensive local heritage. Using proportionally balanced modern furniture items with a minimal palette the original features maintain presence within the now, contemporary space. Polished chrome detailing and somber palette work well with the bold brand of the B&S. Block colours and statement lighting pieces are used in key areas to dramatize and provide a pause in the interior.

WHY CHOOSE US - TRACK RECORD

4 Wharf Street - Existing building, Vibrant designCompleted 2010Concept: An exciting new concept for Jersey that has proved successful in other global locations providing a business hub for new, small and forward thinking businesses. The cellular spaces have a vibrant yet generic palette to create an exciting interior. The design concept aimed to deliver a mini business district within a single building. The styling used sky and tree line graphics at high level with statement ‘cloud’ lighting pieces. Each office has its own personality through the use of colour and are the structures within the space. The angular fronts termed the ‘shark tooth’ allow colour to flow and natural light to stream through from the velux’s above. Contrasting floor finishes and brand continuity complete the design and deliver the impact aspired for by our client.

12

Atlantique seafood Restaurant, St. Helier Concept: Our design ideas were requested on how to translate a successful business into a new environment. The style clues were kept subtle without the dreaded theme effect being applied. Soft shell shimmers within the bar top stone, the ‘sea urchin’ style pendants above the bar, the ‘seaweed’ shapes within the wallpapers and the pebbled floor. All this together gives hints of where the food originates from, in a warm and un-pretentious environment. Being a family owned and run business priority was given to ensuring owners ‘personality and presence’ remained visible. The concept revolved around a domestic ‘hand made’ feel, shouting personality through differing textures and materials. The design process throughout was very organic which allowed the finishes and layouts to continually evolve as products were found and selected.

14

Oysterbox, St. BreladeConcept: To create a fully designed and detailed interior including the re-cladding of the existing structure: a 1100sqft glazed extension with sedum roof, and an al fresco terrace for extended dining. The concept revolved around creating a simple but elegant interior for the Oysterbox, using natural and sustainable materials and making the most of the world-class beachside setting for customers. The mood for Spinnakers, on the other hand, is more light hearted with brighter seaside colours and a true ‘beach café’ feel.

Jersey Pottery Café, St. Helier - Completed 2010Naish Waddington Interiors was tasked to create a new feel and look for the Jersey Pottery Café a local, creative family run business. The concept was to create a warm domestic kitchen space with relevancy to the heritage and brand of Jersey Pottery, This was achieved using ceramic tiles and Jersey pottery products with heavy grained wood reflecting the lines in clay pots during crafting as well as bread boards. We retained the use of green but in a more diverse colour range to give a fresher warmer palette.

RETAIL - JERSEY TELECOM STORE

Concept: was to create a space representing the fast moving and now “fashion orientated” world of wireless technologies. The design creates a distinctive environment, dynamic movement in form and bold use of colours, which is as much a visual experience as the products the store contains. The key design elements are also visual guides that will feed the customers curiosity and tempt them around the store to explore new areas. The concepts of “movement” and “flow” drove the detailing of the retail display cases and wall treatments, contributing to the ambience of a “technology marketplace” on the ground floor and “audio-visual lounge” upstairs. The entrance is dominated by a graphic walkway, which pulls customers into the heart of the store, to then wrap around the counter to make its return to the front. This and other use of lifestyle images reflect that even if the store is bold and new, it still has to retain its local influence and connection.

Vosins, St. Helier Completed 2003Concept: In Autumn 2003 Voisins jointly commissioned Naish Waddington Architects and Naish Waddington interiors to re-develop their existing Don Street premises and neighboring vacant property to create a new menswear department over three floors. Externally the concept was to give the building a contemporary shop frontage within the restrictions of the traditional building frontage. This included the stunning new feature glass showcase and painted render section which highlights the entrance to the store. Internally, The illuminated glass feature staircase was designed to attract people up to the first floor. It is clearly visible from most areas on the ground floor with a large open well to allow good visibility up to the first floor level. A feature plasma screen wall was also designed to further accentuate the link between ground and first floor menswear and a large lift was installed to enable access to the first floor and Adams childrens wear on the second floor

Over a two year period NWI worked closely in conjunction with a team of local Doctors who were amalgamating three existing Jersey Practices into a single Medical Cent aspiring to provide a stand out service for the Islands community. As designers and lead consultants NWi’s design did not opt for the conventional but hinted towards the unexpected, with vibrant colours and shapes to lift the pragmatic clinic backdrop. Bespoke joinery, including the consultants furniture, integrated medical equipment into the design ensuring the completed space was both styled and functional. The interior layout maximises the distribution of natural light through high level acoustically sealed glazing and the waiting spaces consider patient flow and privacy prior to and after consultation. Working in conjunction with the Island Medical Centre team NWi assisted with developing a brand identity that was cohesive with the designed space, using the green’s of the Island Pharmacy and orange’s of the Island Medical centre throughout, with complimenting accents in key areas.

BeaufortA simple sedum green roof extension to this living room with a picture frame opening glass wall with views to the carefully planned architectural garden and infinity swimming pool. The combined effects of light and perspective offers an unusual sense of space of freedom. The sedum planted roof provides an attractive element when viewed from the master bedroom, whilst a glass rooflight provides daylight into the deeper plan of the house. We admire our client’s brave decision to go along with this design, and are endlessly impressed with how much care they look after it. If this small extension speaks of anything, it is in its ability to act as a catalyst for freedom n family living.

WHY CHOOSE US - APPROACHOur delivery is always personal & professional. We value our clients, and we value our team. Naish Waddington gained Investors in People accreditation in 2002 and have retained it ever since. We are proud to be the only Interior Designers & Architects in the Channel Islands to have done this.

There is a growing awareness of the value of design, not just to uplift and make our lives richer, but also as a way to help reflect and even shape our attitudes, values and behaviour. Carefully articulated offices do improved staff communications and eventually productivity.

We focus on producing the best response to the brief, but we are also conscious that we have to provide value for money. Part of this is explained by the fact that as a practice we are properly re sourced with a keen balance between conceptual thinking and plenty of technical experience. We actively manage effective partnerships with client, planning authorities, developers and contractors, both here and abroad.

We don’t waste time and we don’t take on more than we can manage. We have systems that ensure there is a modulated flow of project stages from first contact through to handover.

OUTLINE GUIDE TO YOUR DESIGN AND BUILD JOURNEY

PRE-DESIGN / CONCEPT

Pre-design allows a dialogue with clients, the best creative interiors stem from gaining a good understanding of the clients requirements. The conceptual and exploration phase, we determine the general layout, form and overall appearance of the project. Mood/material boards, Visuals and basic plans create the foundations for the next phases.

DESIGN / DEVELOPMENT

Design development allows us to further develop the concept, allowing details to be added including bespoke items or fittings as required. Full material finishes boards / schedules, plans, elevations, and sections are developed for client approval. At this stage the information can be conveyed to quantity surveyors for costing, or tendered to leading contractors.

REGULATIONS & SPACE PLANNING

This service allows you to understand if existing or proposed requirements fits your needs or chosen building. Planning, Building Control as well as other required building regulations are checked and changes submitted for approval. We also can advise on your future needs by space planning your businesses current and projected requirements in existing or new premises.

CONSTRUCTION PACKAGES

This is where the design is translated into technical information for the contractor. Working drawings and specifications are prepared to define in detail all the materials that are to be incorporated, where they are to be located and how they are to be constructed and installed. This is the stage where we fully coordinate our construction documents with architects and engineers.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

We review the construction schedule with the contractor and answer questions, review shop drawings, manufacturer’s drawings of different job elements to be incorporated into the project and certify progress payments from the contractors. As Contract Administrators we supervise the contractor throughout and determine Practical completion when the project is finished and ready for occupancy.

Where projects are constrained by various conditions such as budgeting or proposed continual occupation during refurbishment, Naish Waddington can prepare phasing drawings as well as programs to ensure that all of your requirements can and are achieved.

Example shown are phases 2-4 of the refurbishment works to increase and improve facilities for the Emergency department at the General Hospital.

Worked in conjunction with various departments at the hospital, the main task was to maintain a level of service equal to their current requirements as well as understand that this was a live department. Fire strategies had to be worked out as well as access routes established for staff and contractors.
