Spring 2017 was a busy season here at AMATA, with highlights including exceptional and inspiring performances from Cara Dillon, New Art Club, and Mr and Mrs Clark. We have also been thrilled by the high level of participation in our Saturday morning Young Persons’ Dance Sessions, culminating in a wonderful showcase of site specific work around the Penryn Campus. This was complemented by the final public showcase by students graduating from AMATA degree courses, which delivered two weeks of innovative, creative and original performance work from our highly talented actors, dancers, musicians, cultural managers and producers of the future.
Our conference programme so far this year has included a lecture by Catherine Wood, Senior Curator of International Art (Performance) at Tate Modern in partnership with CAST, and our summer programme will commence with two further conference events for music and dance teachers hosted by Kernow Education Arts Partnership.
We are delighted to offer an exciting and varied selection of summer school provision, including the well-established Freefall Dance Summer Intensive course and the Falmouth-Yamaha Jazz Summer School, which returns with a line of up of fantastic tutors for all levels of ability, plus a visiting Yamaha Artist, the world-class pianist and composer Kenny Werner.
After a successful launch in 2016, the ISTA summer school returns for its second year enabling young theatre makers to devise and perform collaborative theatre with renowned international theatre practitioners. New for 2017 is the Music and Dance summer school led by choreographer, Grace Clayton and composer, Patrick Bailey, which will provide young dancers and musicians with the exciting opportunity to work together in collaboration. We are also honoured to present a showcase of work by the talented participants in our Saturday morning Young Persons’ Dance sessions that will celebrate their achievements from throughout the year.
We very much hope you will join us at AMATA to experience some of the exciting opportunities and performances that we have to offer this summer.

RESIDENCY PROGRAMME The residency programme at AMATA enables performing arts practitioners to access studio space for non-curricular activity, generally outside of University term times. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but we advise applying at least six months in advance. Because there are actual and opportunity costs to AMATA associated with this offer, we need to ensure that all residencies benefit our students in some way.
With this in mind, Artists-in-Residence are expected to contribute to AMATA through, for example; a gratis performance for the public programme in lieu of the value of the studio time (this may be at a later date, where we would contribute towards expenses but no fee will be payable) and/or a gratis sharing of work-in-progress, or participation in workshops or teaching sessions.
