Slide 2
What is Smart Roadside? Using advanced technology as a tool in
the roadside toolbox to improve efficiency and effectiveness of
commercial motor vehicle enforcement operations. 2
Slide 3
Why should you embrace Smart Roadside? Targets high risk
carriers; Provides an even playing field; Can be deployed at
different sites (fixed, mobile, etc.); An opportunity to increase
compliance verification when enforcement resources continue to be a
challenge; and The increase volume of CMV traffic requires new
methods to validate compliance. 3

Missouri Quick Facts Plans, designs, constructs and maintains
33,639 miles of highways and 10,335 bridges and culverts. Has the
most major river bridges (53) than any other state. The nations
seventh largest state highway system. 4

4 What is so different in Missouri? 1.Use of Magnetometer Loop
Detector (MLD) to fingerprint the commercial motor vehicle on the
mainline. The loop is used for PrePass WIM with the addition of a
mainline camera. 14
Slide 15
How is the vehicle fingerprinted? Using the MLD, you can
electronically tag and track CMVs based on the density and
distribution of metal producing a waveform or fingerprint of the
vehicle and its load. 15
Slide 16

Attach weight data captured on the PrePass mainline WIM for carrier
vehicles not enrolled in PrePass Program to the vehicles
fingerprint with an overview pic. 16
Slide 17

Re-identify the CMV using a MLD loop on the ramp along with a LPR,
AUR and Image Capture system to identify the carrier and plate
information by querying the states CVIEW. 17
Slide 18
4. The fingerprint of the vehicle on the mainline is matched
with the fingerprint on the ramp. When a match is found, the weight
and all information gathered from the LPR and AUR are put together.

Slide 19
New Weigh Station I55 What is so different in Missouri 5. The
information from the Smart Roadside System (SMS) is passed to the
lane control system and static scale software (Mettler-Toledo). If
all the information is valid (no alerts) the vehicle is allowed to
use the stations bypass lane. All other vehicles are sent to the
static lane. Lane control information is returned to the SMS
system. 19
Slide 20
6. Eliminated the need for a PrePass Compliance Reader because
the system will identify a vehicle enrolled in the PrePass system
that was not identified on the ramp of the station if the vehicle
received a red light and did not enter the station as required. New

Slide 28
Technology The new identification technology and scale platform
system makes it easier to verify compliance and allows for better
use of resources. The automated features, such as the automated
lane control which closes the facility when traffic is backed up,
enhances safety. 28
