TheChairman,DickSchonbergercalledthemeetingtoorderat1030am.PresentwereTonySmith,PeteKusek,FrankWaskowicz,andJackGordon.PresentvirtuallywereJackBradshaw,TomClaffey,PetePenczer,andPaulVanture.Finances.PeteKusek,reportedthattheclasshad$69,000.98inassets($67,862.43withT.RowePriceand$1,138.55inaUSAACheckingAccount.)TherewerefiveOperatingFundexpensesintheperiod:

Inadditiontotheseassets,theclasshad$1,174.71depositedinanadministrativefundwithAOGtoprovide“quickstart”moniesinsupportofreunionactivities.TheAOGdonationof$80istheresultofaneffortbytheclasstoreimburseTKSmithforhisexpenseinunderwritingthecostoftransportingtheclassflagtoafuneral—aserviceTKhasprovidedtotheclassforsometime.WhentheclasstriedtoreimburseTK,hedeclinedandsuggestedthattherepaymentgointotheclassgiftfund.Skype.BasedonasuggestionthatusingSkypewouldreducecostofouraudioconferencing,FrankWaskowiczprovidednotestomembersoftheEXCOMearlierintheweekonoptions.Skypeisfreeandwillwork.Asitturnsout,however,wearebeingassessedausagechargewithourcurrentprovider,StartMeeting,tocoverthecostofatollfreenumber.Convertingtoatollnumbereliminatesthatcharge.ItwasagreedthatweshouldremainwithStartMeetingandgotouseofatollfreenumber.ButalsothatwetestSkype,andreconsidertheoptionsatthenextEXCOMmeeting.Ingeneral,therewaslittleenthusiasminmovingtoavideosharingsystem.“LifeAfterSixty”.FrankWaskowiczdiscussedtheefforttoreviewandassessclassgovernanceintheyearsfollowingour60thReunion.Hewillsendanearlyoutline/workingpapertothecommitteethatheandJackBradshawdraftedthatsuggeststhevarietyoftopicstoconsider.Theideaistofleshouttheseideas,andpresentafulldrafttotheEXCOMinAprilofnextyearwithfindingsandrecommendationsthatwouldbepresentedtotheclassforconsiderationatour60th.FrankwillcontactmembersofearlierWestPointclassestotapintotheirexperienceasclassesshrinkinsizeandenergy.

FirstClassClub.TonySmithdiscussedaMaymeetingheattendedatWestPointontherehaboftheFirstClassClub.TonyprovidedhisnotestotheEXCOMonMay27th,andisworkingonadetailedreporttotheclassthatheintendstosendwhenhereturnsfromtravelattheendofthismonth.Thebottomlineisthat

additional4-6weeksFCCFundRaising.TomClaffeyreportedthat$329Khasbeenraised,with54%oftheclassparticipating.HeanticipatesthatthebrochuremailedinMaymightspurtgiving.Widows.AnneMartinwasnotpresent.Dickspokeabouttheneedforustoberesponsivetoneedsofourwidowcommunity.Severalwidowshaveindicatedawillingnesstobeinvolved.Itiscriticalthatnewlywidowedreceiveoutreachfromtheclass,andonacontinuingbasisaremadetofeelwelcomeandwantedtoclassactivitiesthroughcompanyCCQs.CCQCoordinator—MemorialArticles.PaulVantureprovidedsomemetricsonhowwestandbycompanyonarticles.Hereportedthatatthistimethereare19memorialarticlesthathavenowriters.16havewriterslistedandareinprogress.Thereare16ex-cadetswith2articleswritten(PaulDean,B-2andJackLowe,D-1).Someattemptshavebeenmade,buthewasnotoptimisticbecauseofthelongtimelag.PaulstatedthatitwashispracticetocontacteachCCQindividuallytoascertainwhatisbeingdoneontheoutstandingmemorialarticles.Inmanycases,thewriterhashadproblemscontactingtheappropriatepeopletogettheneededinformation.Paulprovidedspecificinformationoncertainclassmates,andexpressedaviewthatwearedoingaboutasmuchaswecantoworktowardthegoalof100%.Therewassomediscussionaboutjustwhatourgoalis.JackGordonexpressedtheviewthatwhileourgoalis100%,realisticallythatisprobablyunachievable;especiallyasourclassdiminishes,itbecomesmoreandmoredifficulttofindsomeonetodothehonors.Classmatesareencouragedtotakeanactiveinterestintheirownmemorialarticleswhiletheyarestillable—eitherwritingorhavingsomeoneelseauthoramemorialarticle.Thusfar,therearefourwhohavedoneso.TonySmithexpressedaviewthatinhisexperiencethemostmemorableandcompellingmemorialarticlesarethosethatcomefromfamilymembersrelatingsharedexperiencesthatprovidearealandhumanportrayaloftheperson.

TonySmithsuggestedthatwenotchangethepolicy,butallowforexceptionsbasedonthebestjudgmentoftheinvolvedCCQ.PeteKuseksuggestedthatifthefuneralflagsarelessexpensivethantheonedisplayedinHerbertHall,thattheoccasionallossofaflagisacosttheclasscouldaccommodate.Itwassuggestedthatifaclassmateisnotavailable,theconcernedCCQcouldassessthepossibilityofaWestPointerfromanotherclasstoassumeresponsibility.Thesenseofthediscussionwastostickwiththepolicyasis,butexpectandacceptexceptions.Custodianscouldbefamilymembers(asinJack’ssuggestedchange),orotherUSMAgrads,orevenFuneralHomedirectors.TimeCapsule.DickadvisedthecommitteethatJackDowningisworkingonaplantointegrateopeningthetimecapsuleinconcertwithpresentationofthefirstdisbursementfromourPerpetualEndowmentFund.JackwillpresenthisideastotheEXCOMatitsnextmeeting.UseofWestPoint.Org.GeorgeLawtonsuggestedtothecommitteethatitassessoptionsthatwouldallowattachingdocumentstoe-mail.Currently,attachmentsarenotallowed.
