Keeping in Touch with the Heartbeat of St. Francis Parish

Without question, the deepest privilege of the Priesthood for Fr. Raphael and myself is celebrating Eucharist weekly with our Parish Family; we are the People of God, the Body of Christ, the Church. How wonderful it is to look into the eyes and hearts of our parishioners and recognize deep faith in our Risen Lord; how important it is for us to hold in our prayers all of the members of our faith community who are unable to join us in church as they seek to support the good health of themselves and their families.

Needless to say, the lockdown due to the pandemic from Dec. 26, 2020 to Jan. 23, 2021 is felt by all to be a moment of pain and disappointment. Yet, we know what we must do for the good of the community both locally and amongst the global village of God. Fr. Raphael and I want to assure one and all that you, your families and your intentions will be prayed for during our daily masses both here at St. Francis and during our weekly individual celebrations of Eucharist at the Carmelite Monastery in St. Agatha. Although not physically present during the upcoming designated period, let us continue to join one another in spirit as we pray and hold one another in our hearts.

Fr. Raph and I are deeply grateful for all the gestures and words of kindness and support that have been extended to us. Fr. Raph will be cooking our Christmas dinner here in the rectory with all the trimmings on Christmas day. He told me that while walking through the grocery store he was faced with the decision as to purchasing a turkey which would last forever or buy a turkey roll. The turkey roll won out. Needless to say, I have already begun to salivate in anticipation of the scrumptious meal that we will celebrate. Yes, my job will be to do the dishes which I never mind.

Blessings upon you, your families and all those beloved to your hearts during this Christmas time and as we approach the upcoming New Year. May we name, own and claim our deep faith in the Word of God becoming flesh and dwelling amongst us so that we can have the eyes to see, the ears to hear and the hearts to comprehend that each and every one of us is a Beloved Child of God.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Fr. Murray McDermott C.R.

COVID – 19 DECEMBER UPDATE

As of 12:01am Saturday December 26, 2020, the Province of Ontario will go into Lockdown, and in our region it will last at least 28 days. Due to this lockdown, after our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses (which will all continue as scheduled) there will be no more public Masses until the end of the lockdown.

Fr. Murray and Fr. Raphael will continue to celebrate Mass privately for the intentions of all the parishioners of St. Francis of Assisi and our loved ones. If you had a Mass intention booked during the lockdown period we will reschedule it once we are again allowed to have public Mass.

During the lockdown the Parish Office will also be closed. Alice and Ruthann will continue to work from home, and we will be checking phone and email messages. So if you need us please reach out, we are here for you and we will do whatever we can to continue to minister to the people of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

We are able to celebrate Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals with a maximum of 10 people present (including the priest), so if you are in need of these sacraments please contact the parish office and we will get back to you.

Please keep us and your fellow parishioners in prayer, as we keep you in ours. May this Christmas Season bring us peace and healing, and may the New Year be blessed!

FR. MURRAY & FR. RAPHAEL’S HOMILIES ONLINE
