NEW MERITOR PREMIUM BRAKE PADS
Today’s heavy transport industry is working to the maximum so replacement parts have to perform in line with demand. Increases in engine power, higher levels of utilization and more traffi c on the roads means more demand on brakes. Increased demand means increased load in all forms, resulting in higher torque and temperatures for the brake and the need to perform above and beyond historic levels. If you are a city-bus operator, running high powered premium tractor units or vocational vehicles then you will know the issues. Short life, both for disc pads and discs, are mainly the result of fi tting inappropriate replacement pads. At Meritor we understand the problems, and, of course, the solutions:
The new Meritor 550 friction material has been tested in combination of Meritor Testing and Prototype laboratory (Cameri, Italy) and an independent external certifi ed testing laboratory, under exact Meritor quality and engineering standards.
The new M550 friction material was tested using OE and aftermarket rotors in order to simulate the different applications that are used in the roads, offering up to 100% less material wear against other aftermarket friction materials and up 2% less wear when compared with other OE high demand / utilization material.
The new M550 friction material wear is better at high temperature when compared to other friction materials in the market.
In constantly high temperatures conditions (up to 500 degrees) the M550 Meritor material has a better pad and disc wear performance than other OE aftermarket friction materials. M550 + ALLFIT rotor couple is used with Meritor and Knorr brakes and brake performance is higher for same input pressure than original OE design intent.
Thermal Strength test: Warm up stops 40 to 0 Kph on 30 second interval until 500°C. Then 20 stops 40 to 0 kph with initial temperature 500°C. Torque target 20KNm. Cool to 150°C and repeat until a total of 800 warm up and stops at 500°C has been reach. Pads and rotor completed the test target of 800 stops without structural failure.
M550 friction material has higher friction than other OE high demand friction material, giving more breaking power.
Actual friction value of M550 calculates to an outstanding friction coeffi cient of 0.37 compared to other claimed aftermarket high performance and even OE friction materials.
� Torque. Correct torque across speed, pressure and temperature.
� Fade. High resistance at full pressures and peak temperatures.
� Modulation. The strong fade resistance and reliable recovery give great confi dence to the driver.
� Recovery. Consistent recovery levels, after any fade.

� A 44 Ton truck driving at 90 km/hr. has kinetic energy of 13.75 Million Joules.
