2012 UPDATE
2012 was a remarkable year for Onondaga Community College baseball. The team broke several team and individual records for a season. The 47 win total was best in the school history.
Lloyd Quick — Head CoachCoach Quick graduated from Moravia High School in 1986, earned a degree in Criminal Justice from Onondaga CC. Coach Quick was a catcher At OCC from 1987-’88. During his time playing for Coach Joe Antonio, OCC was ranked nationally in the top ten in the nation both years as a D I JUCO. In 1987 the OCC baseball team earned a trip to the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction Colorado. Coach Quick returned to OCC in 2010 from class A VVS H.S. where he was the head coach from 2000-2009 compiling over 150 wins and four straight Tri-Valley league championships from 2005-2008.
ASSISTANT COACHES
JJ Potrikus — PitchingCoach Potrikus is a 2005 CNS Grad, Attended Siena College from 2005-2007 then transferred to SUNY Cortland from 2007-2009 where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and received a National Academic All-America Award. JJ was a standout right handed pitcher throughout his career and spent two seasons playing professionally in the Northern and Pecos league. Coach Potrikus developed and currently owns and runs Syracuse Baseball Prep, a training service for area players as well as handling the pitching coach duties for the CNY Thunder Baseball Program.
Mark Pelligra — OF & Strength and ConditioningCoach Pelligra is in his second year as an assistant coach at OCC. Mark graduated from Marcellus High School in 1979; He attended Monroe CC from 1979-’80, Oswego State from 1980-’83. Coach Pelligra is involved in all aspects of the program. Coach works with our outfielders and helps coordinate strength and conditioning as well as game day administration.
Rich Sisto — Infield/HittingCoach Sisto is a 1984 graduate of Bishop Grimes High School. He attended Niagara University from 1984-‘88 and was a two sport athlete playing baseball and football. Coach Sisto is in his first year as an assistant at OCC after spending several years coaching travel baseball in the Syracuse area with the Syracuse Junior Chiefs. Primary duties include working with our infielders and hitters as well as coaching first base on game days.
Alex Rybczak — Catchers/HittingCoach Rybczak is in his first year on the OCC staff. Alex graduated from Gates Chili High School in 2000. He was standouts 2 time all Region III catcher at Monroe CC in Rochester and also selected as an All American in 2002. Alex then performed in the Big East at the University of Pittsburgh leading the Big East in throwing out base runners each of his two years by throwing out over 50 % of base stealers. After one season in professional baseball with the independent Richmond Roosters, Alex returned to MCC as an assistant from 2008- ’10 where his duties included coaching catchers and hitters as well as helping in the recruiting process. Coach Rybczak will handle those responsibilities at OCC as well.
Joe Antonio — Senior Advisor/Asst CoachCoach Joe Antonio returns to OCC after spending the last 12 years working with youth baseball in the Syracuse area. Coach Antonio started the program here at Onondaga as a club team in the late “70’s and continued to build a powerhouse northeast JUCO program until 1999 when he retired. During several years in the 80’s and 90’s coach won 8 region 3 championships, developed several professional players and was the head coach who brought the team to a world series appearance in 1987. The program is happy to have Joe back as an advisor as his passion for OCC baseball is unmatched.
