Spending the Summer in Matthew’s Gospel – The Lord has been teaching me some incredible things through a recent reading of Matthew’s Gospel. I will be preaching through the entire book throughout the summer on both Sunday mornings and Sunday evenings. The series will launch on June 3. I feel like God has been preparing me for some time to preach these messages, and I believe that God’s word this summer could change our lives and our church. Be in prayer for God’s Spirit to move mightily.
Vacation Bible School – VBS is right around the corner! A special thanks goes out to all those who have volunteered to help. As Vince mentioned in a recent Sunday service, more kids from outside our church have already registered than those in the church. This is a great
problem, but I highly encourage our church member parents to register your kids early, so that we can have an accurate count and also be able to do good follow-up.
Nominating Committee News – I’ve recently a vision with our Nominating Committee about the possibility of forming an ad-hoc committee which would examine and develop a strategic plan regarding our church campus. Our sanctuary, education building, and chapel alone account for about 185,000 square feet of space. How are we using this space? How could we use it? As you are well aware, our congregation is not what it was 20 years ago, so what is the best way to steward our resources? This committee would answer these questions and much more. In fact, our Nominating Committee will be proposing to you in August that we form a Church Campus Strategic Planning Committee. This ad-hoc committee would be composed of nine church members who would meet for at least six months but no longer than one year. The committee would be nominated by the Nominating Committee and elected by the church.
Stay tuned for further updates over the summertime.
Faithfulness in Stewardship – Thank you for your generous tithes and offerings in this current quarter. We are heading into the summer months about $30,000 over budget. We also have surpluses in revenues over expenditures. Let’s keep up the good work in the summertime, when utility bills skyrocket and when giving often decreases due to people being out of town.
Don’t forget to say thank you! – With the recent surprise illnesses and surgeries among staff members, so many of you stepped up to the plate in leadership! Church family, let’s not forget to say thanks to the many people who help in so many ways to lead us. We believe in the doctrine of the “priesthood of the believer”—meaning that it’s not just a pastor or staff who does all the work of the church. Everyone is to be engaged. I’m so grateful for those of you who have taken your “priesthood” so seriously in these past weeks. Even though some of you do things that no one knows about, God knows. I’m grateful! Pastor James
