Art, music, poetry, and film come together in John Frame’s ambitious project, “The Tale of the Crippled Boy.” The goal is a feature-length collection of animated and live film vignettes. “Three Fragments of a Lost Tale” presents his work during the past five years: installations of handmade puppets, stage sets, still photographs, music score, and film vignettes. Joseph Beuys One o f t he mos t con t rove r s i a l internationally known German avant-garde artists of the postwar years, Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) was an influential theorist and teacher for several generations of European artists. The exhibition features the monumental environmental work, Blitzschlag mit Lichtschein auf Hirsch (Lightning with Stag in its Glare), 1958-1985, along with selected multiples that extend the installation’s conceptual framework. www.anchorartspace.org During January, Aaron Haba is the Artist-in-Residence at Anchor Art Space. This is the fi rst program of the newly formed project at Anchor Space. The public is invited to talk with Haba and see work in progress on Open Space Night: Friday, January 6, 6-9 PM. Residence through January 21.

Next, presenting an installation by Scott Schuldt which includes work from “The View from the Canoe Project.” The ongoing project began in 2008, is an artistic documentation of the waterways around Seattle, limited only in scope by where he takes his canoe. The installation includes video, photography, a blog, hand-surveyed, hand-drawn maps, drawings, and a growing collection of hand-carved functional canoe paddles. Working collaboratively, their art is inspired by gardening and simple plant structures, as well as Japanese woodcuts and mid-century textiles. Dave and Kelly share a passion for finding rich, expressive forms of nature depicted in art, print, and pattern. This new body of work reduces the use of color to a monochromatic palette within compact gathered forms. Through January. Artist Diana Montgomery uses papier mâché, foam, and wire to construct three-dimensional representations of familiar objects from our interior spaces. The use of impermanent materials in sculptures ranging from a kitchen pot to a human torso reflects the relatively fleeting nature of what we might hold as everlasting. February-March.

In his sensual and ethereal landscape paintings, artist Hiro Yokose’s uses a subtle palette and technique that involves building up delicate, translucent layers of oil paint to create an ambiguous horizon lines and soft edges to the imagery.
