From Olin...
WORSHIP
Worship is a privilege only children of God have.
There are many blessings we receive from faithful at-
tendance in worship. God has commanded us to as-
semble regularly to worship him in spirit and in truth
(John 4:24). Hebrews 10:25-26 says, “Not forsaking the
assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some,
but encouraging one another and so much the more as you
see the day approaching”.
Summertime usually brings to the church lower at-
tendance and that has been very, very true this sum-
mer. I have missed seeing many of you and look for-
ward to renewed activities around MPC beginning in
August so that we can resume “encouraging one an-
other as we see the day approaching.”

MPC News August 2015
The Stephen Ministry logo tells a story of a care receiver’s journey from brokenness toward wholeness through the cross of Jesus. It is a journey made possible by “Christ caring for people through people,” which is the Stephen Ministry motto. WHAT IS STEPHEN MINISTRY? Stephen Ministry is the caring ministry that takes place in a con-gregation when it implements the Stephen Series system. Ste-phen Series refers to the complete system, including training, re-sources, structure, and ongoing support, that congregations use to equip and empower a team of laypeople to provide high-quality, confidential, one-to-one Christian care to hurting people in and around the congregation. The Stephen Series system is offered by Stephen Ministries St. Louis and is used in thousands of con-
gregations and other organizations worldwide. To better understand Stephen Ministry there are three groups of participants. They are Stephen Leaders, Stephen Ministers and care receivers. A brief definition of each is:
Stephen Leaders are the ones responsible to the congregation for administering Stephen Minis-try.
Stephen Ministers are laypeople from our congregation, both men and women, trained to provide one-to-one care to people experiencing a difficult time in life.
Care receivers are congregation members and others in the community who receive care from a Stephen Minister. These are people struggling through a difficult time in life such as experi-encing grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, or some other life crisis.
Please explore the videos and information on the Stephen Ministries St. Louis website to help gain an understanding of this ministry. These are a few selections from their website: https://www.stephenministries.org/
Our organization draws its name from St. Stephen. In the book of Acts, Chapter 6, Stephen was cho-
sen to provide caring ministry to those in need. Since the days of the Apostles, caring ministry has
been a hallmark of the Christian faith community—and is at the heart of all we do at Stephen Minis-
tries.
The mission of the Stephen Ministries organization is summed up in St. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians.
“To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come
to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full
stature of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12–13).
Stephen Ministry is not a counseling ministry, but a listening ministry. Stephen Ministers don’t give advice. Stephen Ministers facilitate faith and trust in Jesus as the care receiver works through a diffi-cult time. With Stephen Ministry no one suffers alone. Any time you want more information talk with one of our Stephen Ministry Leaders: Rita Wieland, Michael Wieland or Debby Stellings.

HELPING IN HIS NAME FOOD PANTRY
Items needed this month are: Canned Meats (Chili, Tuna, Stew), Canned Vegetables, Canned Fruit,
Canned Soup, Noodles, Rice or Macaroni. As always, any other non perishable food items as well as per-
sonal hygiene items are always needed.
ROBBIE’S READERS
The kitchen class hopes all will continue to support "Robbie's Readers" with used books. We welcome books that your
children have outgrown. Another resource is Good Will with a senior discount on Tuesday. These books are greatly
appreciated, as new teachers build their classroom libraries to help some less fortunate children. These are young read-
ers ages 5,6,7,and 8 years of age. Thank you for your help.
Helping our neighbors at the new EXCEL Academy
This August Henry County's new alternative school, EXCEL Academy, welcomes students in the former McDonough
Elementary building near MPC.
To welcome our new neighbors MPC is collecting donations of tissues, Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, and copy paper
throughout the month of August. We are also accepting donations of white, pink, or black collared shirts in a variety of
sizes. The shirts are for our students who cannot afford to purchase them as part of our dress code.
EXCEL Academy is a small, caring and academically challenging program that has a special campus atmosphere en-
couraging student success.
Thank you for helping our new neighbors get a solid start to the new school year!
LOCAL MINISTRIES
On August 19th, as a church, we will be packing meals with Stop Hunger Now. Donations of $30 per family
will be greatly appreciated. The cost of one packed meal is .29 cents. Our goal is to pack 12,528 meals which
equals $3633.12.
Join us for our first Wonderful Wednesday of the year, as we kick off another year of “Serving others beyond
Sunday Morning!”
Did you know that there are more than a billion people who suffer
from hunger? That’s more than 25,000 people a day.
Did you know that more people die each year from hunger related
causes than AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis combined?
Did you know that there is enough food in the world to feed everyone
4.3 pounds every day? Did you know that each meal only costs the
church 29 cents to prepare?
