The Hub offered chair massages to employees to
help reduce stress.Common types of massage
Swedish massage This is a gentleform of massage that uses longstrokes, kneading, deep circularmovements, vibration and tapping tohelp relax and energize you.Deep-tissue massage This massage
technique uses slower, more forceful strokes to target the deeperlayers of muscle and connective tissue, commonly to help withmuscle damage from injuries.Sports massage This is similar to Swedish massage but is gearedtoward people involved in sport activities to help prevent or treatinjuries.Trigger point massage This massage focuses on trigger points, orsensitive areas of tight muscle fibers that can form in yourmuscles after injuries or overuse.
Getting a massage in this tranquil setting doesnt mean spendingthe day at a luxurious spa. Getting massages regularly will yieldphysical and mental benefits, says Kathee Norseen, a licensedmassage therapist at the Wellness/Fitness Center of GoodSamaritan Hospital.I cant stress how beneficial massage is, Norseen said. Its not
just something for luxury. There are physical benefits and it is a
type of therapy just like occupational therapy or physical therapy.Massage helps increase the oxygen flow to organs, helping withcirculation; stimulates the flow of the lymph system; and helps thebody flush out toxins.Norseen said massage relaxes and softens injured muscle tissue, reduces muscle spasms and cramping, increases flexibility and

Yes, it is summer. And we all know that the mango season has arrived when families begin to
tighten household budgets to cater to the rising cost of the fruit that is much in demand every year.
But this time around, they arent the only ones doing the waiting. Spas across the city too have
been
gearing up for the king of fruits to make his annual appearance and are looking to dazzle
customers with some innovative use of the seasonal fruit.
Sukho Thai, a popular foot
spa in the city, has introduced
a mango foot scrub. This 15-
minute scrub is part of a
larger therapy session, but
essentially helps remove
dead skin as well as
moisturise and soothe the
feet, further facilitating better
absorption of massage oils
and improving blood
circulation.
Vijeyta Vazkar, director,
Sukho Thai dismisses the
acne-mango lineup, saying,
Several people are under the
impression that mangoes are
not good for the skin. They
are wrong, as the fruit is a rich
source of vitamins A and C.
Skin tone improves
immediately upon its
application. Vazkar adds that
they use only fresh mangoes
in their secret product that is
on offer only during the
summer.
Fresh mangoes are also a
favourite at Skin Kitchen in

Bandra that offers patrons a mango mousse facial. Mangoes are extraordinarily rich in
antioxidants, iron and something about the fructose in the mango gets superbly absorbed by our
skin, says founder Diya Demble. This facial is suitable for all skin types, except for the acne
prone. And there is no compromise when it comes to the treatment. Only the hapus variety is
used and I go to Dadar market myself to pick them fresh. Then the mangoes are soaked in water,
pulped, pureed, cooked and used in our facial. The treatment will be available only till July 1.
Also offering a mango facial and body spa (exfoliation and mask or wrap) is Andheris Vanaddict
Spa. Using body extracts, the focus of these treatments is on skin rejuvenation. Mangoes have
excellent youth renewal properties, says Samir Mahindrakar, owner of the spa, adding that these
treatments are better marketed in the summer, but are available around the year.
And though Antara Spa at DN Nagar, Andheri (W) has now moved on to neem-based treatments
from the mango massages that were on offer till a while ago, Rewa Escape at Bhulabhai Desai
Road has taken the opportunity to introduce its seasonal special mango manicures and pedicures.
Combined with enzyme rich fresh papaya, their delectable hand and foot therapies help get rid of
blotchy skin and smoothen and nourish it to protect against sun damage. So get ready to glow.

If beauty treatments arent up your alley, heres a handy guide to the varieties of mangoes
available throughout the season.
Alphonso: With three distinct varieties depending on where they are grown, the Ratnagiri, Devgad
and Valsad hapus or alphonso is often the most in demand and available through April and May.
Currently, this fruit costs R400 a dozen, but prices are expected to come down as the fruits peak
season sets in.
Pairi: Used to make aam ras, the pairi will be available in the months of April and May and will
cost anywhere from R150 to R300 for a dozen.
Badami/Safedi: Not very sweet. This variety is an acquired taste and is available from mid April to
May end. It costs R60 to R70 per kg.
Rajapuri: One of the larger varieties available, at least size wise, it is used to make aam ras once
the hype around the pairi dies down. Available from May end to June end.
Kesar: The poorer cousin of alphonso (though it has a
great flavour), this mango is available from May end to the first week of July.
Totapuri:Has a very different flavour and since its affordable, it is qui te popular. Another thing
that works for it is that is big and fleshy, and thus worth the money. It usually costs between R40
and R60 and can be bought between the months of May and June.
Malgova: These are rarely available in Mumbai. But if you do get your hands on one, do give it a
try. They have softer flesh and have a sweet-sour taste.
Neelam: You need to be careful while handling this one. The seeds are known to attract insects. It
is available from May end to mid-June.
Dasheri: This variety has a sweet taste even in its raw form. You can buy it in the month of June.

Chausa: Has one of the best tastes and very good flavour. Available in June.
Langda: Not many people like it since it has a green colouring. However, it is quite tasty and is
available from June.
Luxury lodgings get ubereco-friendly

The green-washing of the American hospitality industry has hit such a saturation
point that its become almost obligatory for hotels to distribute placards in every
room, asking customers to think twice about sending linens and towels to the
laundry. Kitchen gardens, electric vehicle charging stations and soap-recycling
programs are just a few of the sustainability hooks that hotels use as visible proof
of their eco-friendliness. But the hotels that adhere to the most stringent and closely
monitored sustainability practices typically prefer not to be lumped in with eco-
hotels.
Slideshow: See the ultra-green luxury lodgings
There's still that misnomer that sustainable means less, says Mark Slymen,
Director of Sustainability at luxury lodging/real estate brand Montage Resorts. If
we can show people that it means better quality, than we've accomplished our goal.

The Montage Deer Valley is the only hotel in Utah that presently has achieved LEED
(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green
Building Council. LEED, like EPA Energy Star and Audubon Green Leaf , is a third-
party verification system that operates nationally and encompasses many types of
construction hotels being a small fraction. It uses a 100-point system split
between a number of categories including Water Efficiency, Energy Systems and
Indoor Environmental Quality. Within these categories, some of the requirements
such as minimum indoor air quality are actually intangible. Others are simply
hard to spot.
When you get into LEED certification, you get into what the carpet is made of, and
the adhesives inside the walls, says AndrewMorrison, executive chef at the LEED
Gold-certified Fairmont Pittsburgh. Although his bar tops are made from recycled
metal shavings and his kitchen has a bio-enzyme machine to break down digestible
food waste, Morrison says the naked eye wouldnt necessarily notice the difference
in aesthetics, when comparing his restaurant or any part of the hotel with a non-
LEED facility.
This is not just true of LEED. Audubon International Green Leaf was selected by
New York State to roll out a state-wide Green Hotel Pilot Program in 2009 with
pilot participants including the Beekman Tower Hotel and the Grand Hyatt New
York City. Both are luxurious midtown hotels not noticeably greener than their
neighbors, except for the plaque on the lobby wall.
The only hotel in the nation to earn Audubons highest ranking 5 Green Leaf
is the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort in Lake Placid. Green elements in this hotel are
visible sometimes in fact, its innovative Green Roof stops traffic in the spring and
summer. But the subtler elements are impossible to see. One example: Recycled-
content carpeting is slowly replacing the old-school single-use carpeting as sections
wear out. Seen side-by-side and up close, the two carpets are identical.
Because third-party verification is so difficult to attain and so difficult to market,
many so-called green authorities encourage hotels to skip it. The membership-
based Green Hotels Association states on its site GHA does not certify, nor do we
recommend certification, citing as the reason, Certification is very expensive and
very time consuming.
However, proponents of third-party certification say its the only way to really tell
whether a property is really walking the talk when it comes to reducing
environmental impact.
There are a number of self-verification hotel rating systems out there which can be
used by hotels to easily label themselves as being green, says Kal Wellman, a LEED
Associate at the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED considers all aspects of a
facilitys design and construction as well as its ongoing operations.
When asked what LEED should not be confused with, Wellman has a firm answer:
LEED should not be confused with just another hotel marketing ploy.

As far as what eco-friendly points guests can rack up by staying at a LEED-certified
hotel, Wellman says a healthier stay, (presumably due to things like the indoor air
quality prerequisite) less waste generated, and less energy and water usage.
And just in case anyone wants supporting details to back up these
claims,USGBC.orgposts exhaustive information on the LEED program including
technical information on the Green Building Rating System, and a section of
certification resources for those who might want a LEED plaque on their own wall
some day.
CREATIVE BEST PRACTICES OPINIONS
Dont just hear them, LISTEN to them: Usingcustomer insights to drive innovation
inShare
Posted byDan Rocheon April 20th, 2012 at 10:45 am
How do Apple, Google and Facebook become leaders in their industry? The two biggest factors both lie
with their customers. These companies are able to innovate and predict consumer desires and needs, but
they also listen to feedback and wish lists. It is this combination of understanding what will work and
accepting that there are always areas for improvement that make them successful.
Customers are increasingly more knowledgeable about products and services, and they aren't afraid to
share their feedback. The key is to ask. Clients dont only drive the market; th ey ultimately are the market,
so its critical to align product development and advancements with your client base.
In the technology industry, it can be difficult to anticipate customer needs as each client uses the
technology differently. Plus, with SaaS-based tools, changes and updates can be completed immediately,
so regular monitoring of current trends as well as customer insight, usage and behavior patterns is
essential to maintain competiveness. Companies like SalesForce are even encouraging direct innovation
from its users and offering CRM app builds on its platform. After all, if you arent obtaining this pertinent
customer data today, customers can easily switch providers
tomorrow.
Here are some considerations when garnering customer insight:
CompatibilityWhile it would be great to cater to every customer wish, it isnt always practical or
profitable. Before asking for customer feedback, its important to have a full understanding of how
changes to your product or service may impact security, scalability or performance. Will these functions
work across a variety of platforms or operating systems? Verify that you can uphold these standards
before making promises to your client(s).
User Groups/Customer Testing Companies should always incorporate product testing as part of
their development process. This will help determine if your product/service is competitive with others on
the market or if changes need to be made to stand out from the crowd. The added bonus of customer
testing is that you can use your budget more effectively to focus on these key areas of improvement
and/or innovation.
Wish Lists Ask your customers for their feature wish list. These requests may or may not be feasible
to implement, but these if only statements will give your company a better handle on how your client
operates and the functions that are necessary for their business.

Report Cards In addition to wish lists, its important that your clients have a place to share what
works and doesnt work for them. What needs to be adjusted? What function has really helped? What
feature is difficult to use? Remind clients that you are looking for honest feedback - good and bad - in
order to better suit their needs. This is a great opportunity for client(s) to reflect on what functions are
essential to their business and for providers to make the necessary updates.
Customer Budgets Customers will ask for the sun and the moon, but they may only be willing to pay
for one. Make sure that your clients prioritize the features and functionality that benefits their business
most.
Including your customers in the decision-making process will simultaneously help your company provide
the solutions wanted in the marketplace and strengthen client relationships. Ensure that all employees
are asking for customer feedback because a customer-centric team is the foundation of innovation

FRISCO - Seeing her run with friends, few would guess 9-year-old Sarah Lewinski is a child in pain.
"I mostly hurt in my feet," Sarah explained. "My calf, my knees, my wrist and my shoulder."
"She limps, she hobbles around," added Sarah's mother, Ro. "She's exhausted, it takes all your
energy out to do the most basic things that you would think of; getting dressed and just making it
down the stairs."
Diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis when she was two, daily medication, including weekly
injections of chemotherapy, has been Sarah's golden ticket to mobility.
But with big drugs, come big potential for side effects.
"It's scary to think what could happen," Ro said. "Cancer, for one. Infertility. Skin cancer's a big one."
Those frightening possibilities are why Ro Lewinski decided to add an unconventional, drug-free
therapy for her daughter. One usually reserved for adults -- massage.

Once a month, at Frisco's Massage Envy, Sarah has a therapeutic massage on the joints that cause
her the most pain.
Medical massage therapists usually have extra training.
"You want to go real slow," said licensed massage therapist Shannon Hurley. "Just so we don't
inflame the tissue that's already having problems, already hurting."
Massage for children is unproven. But experts say what it does for adults, it does just as effectively
for kids.
"It relaxes you," Hurley said. "It helps your mental stress. Pain is caused by stress. Stress is caused
by pain. It's a vicious, vicious circle."
In fact, massage is used to treat a variety of pediatric conditions, including cerebral palsy, autism,
and ADHD. In some cases, it's covered by insurance.
For safety reasons, parents stay in the room during a child's massage.
"When I go to heaven, I will be without any arthritis," Sarah said. "I will feel like a new person without
arthritis."
Sarah told News 8 the massages feel like heaven.
"It gives her at least two weeks of relief," Ro said. "You know, hey, it's not a drug. It's not in her body.
It's actually something that she looks forward to. It's a treatment that she enjoys going to."
Sarah qualified for free massage therapy through a special Massage Envy program, called Healing
Hands for Arthritis.
"I love it," said clinic owner Brendan McBratney. "The fact that we can do something that she
actually looks forward to - it just touches me."
In addition to her usual prescription medicine, the healing touch helps make it possible for SarahLewinski to play without pain with her friends.
