by N rathi Chithra A few food stalls are
functioning near huge gar-bage bins on Pari Salai in Mogappair East for the past many months raising serious concerns on health safety of consumers. The garbage bins have been placed on the road near a vacant plot on Pari Salai, ahead of the Masudi Bus
Stop and close to the In-dian Overseas Bank, by a private agency hired by the Greater Chennai Corpora-tion for conservancy work in the metropolitan city.
Every evening a few food stalls, that function out of push carts and sell an assortment of dishes including non-vegetarian stuff, snacks and soups, spring to life on this road
and make brisk business till late night. These stalls are located barely a few feet away from these garbage bins that could be seen overflowing with waste on any given day.
Numerous people visit these shops and consume the food without realising the health hazards involved in it. “I have often won-dered how food stalls can
function near a pile of garbage that raises a stink. The proximity to the gar-bage bins is a sure recipe for health disaster. Flies that sit on the garbage would land on the food and raw ingredients kept in the open at these mobile stalls becoming a source carrier of bacteria that could generate disease,” says Rahim Khan, who
visits the mosque a few yards away in the evenings.
S o m e l i k e Akram, a college-go ing s tudent , wonder how the food stalls are al-lowed to function there when there is a campaign for healthy living and food safety. “We
were told in our college by our National Service Scheme staff that now there is the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) that would ensure that the qual-ity of food we consume from hotels, restaurants and food stalls is all safe. We were informed that even mobile stalls and
those selling cooked items on push carts must get the Food Safety Certificate from the FSSAI. I wonder if these food stalls have the Food Safety Certificate and if yes how they were given to them considering the fact that they are openly operating under severely unhygienic conditions,” he added.
When asked about these concerns one of the food stall workers, who refused to part with his name, said, “What can we do? We have to eke out a living selling food on the streets. It is the duty of the Greater Chen-nai Corporation to ensure that this garbage is cleared so that we can carry on business in safe environ-ments here.”

Officials of the T a m i l N a d u Housing finally
removed a few encroach-ments in Thangam Colony in Sixth Avenue in Anna Nagar West that were blocking road development in the locality for many years now. The exercise of demolition was undertak-en to lay a 300 metre road that has eluded the resi-dents for long due to legal dispute. Among the en-croachments that were demolished were that of a place of worship and some houses that were built on common land on the road.
However, the encroach-ment clearing exercise was not without its share of controversy. While those accused of encroaching on the government land claimed that the demoli-tion exercise was carried
out ignoring the fact that a dispute in this connec-tion was pending before the court, officials of the Greater Chennai Corpo-ration disputed the con-tention.
“The entire demolition exercise using JCBs and police protection was car-ried out only after the gov-ernment obtained the re-quired permission to carry out the same from the Madras High Court. Oth-
erwise, we would not have agreed to this demolition. The land belongs to the Tamil Nadu Housing Board, which had devel-oped a colony here several decades ago. There was some tension when the demolition was undertak-en but the exercise was nonetheless carried out as per plan,” an official of the Greater Chennai Corpora-tion said.
Local residents, who
Encroachments removed in Thangam Colony
did not wish to be named as the buildings that were on encroached land be-longed to locally influen-tial people, said that in 2015 itself the Supreme Court had given a verdict in favour of removing the encroachments so that a proper road can be laid in the locality. “We have been suffering without a straight road in this area because of the concrete buildings that were con-structed bang on the road by administrators of a place of worship and a few houses,” said a resi-dent.
In fact, last year an of-ficial of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (Anna Nagar Division) had filed a complaint with the Greater Chennai Police Commission A K Viswa-nathan alleging that the local police was not pro-viding them protection to carry on the demolition of encroachments despite the Supreme Court order. The official said due to this authorities were unable to lay tar road in the en-croached land.
Mithilam Bala Vihar (MBV) conducted the Mathru Puja, an event towards improving bonding of the children with their mother on July 29 at the Mithilam premises. MBV takes free classes on devotional songs, matters of traditional importance, anecdotes enriching character etc. to chil-dren from age 3 to 15.
A 32-year-old business-man Pramod Damodaran, who owns a software com-pany in Anna Nagar C
Block was allegedly ab-ducted by a four-member gang right near his house in Anna Nagar on Mon-
day. However, the victim managed to jump off the moving car and was res-cued by the public who
also nabbed one of the suspects. Finally, the police arrested the remaining three members of the gang.
Based on information given by Francis, 30, his associates Janakiraman alias Mani, 26, Imran Sh-reiff, 32 of Otteri and Prab-hakaran alias Appu, 28 have been arrested by the police. Investigation re-vealed that two of the men had previous petty cases filed against them..
The men kept following the victim for the last one week. Noting that Pramod travelled alone every night, the men plotted a plan to abduct him, it is learnt.

A child’s first school experience brings about big changes for all in the family. The idea of ‘big school’ can be exciting, but it can also be terrifying to think about how children will settle in. It is an important life event, both for the little ones as well as parents. It is only natu-ral for parents to have a few worries on how does the child cope up with school routines and how the child can be helped to have a smooth transition.
Developing the child’s interest in reading expands their awareness and allows them to open their mind and develop new beliefs and opinions. It improves their quality of conversa-tions. Encouraging them to communicate, comprehend and express their thoughts.
Study shows 52% children go to school as a routine and there is no learning. Brain science says that the seat of learning lies in the emo-tional center of the Brain. Each child has dif-ferent emotions, intelligence, learning styles and emotional intelligence. Educators need to pay attention to the emotional needs of the child in order to enable learning.
Once the child’s learning style and their emotional quotient (EQ) is identified it is easy to develop a strong foundation.
Mr. Raj Ganesh, CEO of Arise ‘n’ Shine and MyBeeClub, works with his team of psycholo-gists and research experts to help identify and provide personalised learning experience. Special workshops dealt with is Phonics, Spo-ken English, Handwriting, Young Lead and Drawing. To get your child assessed contact My Bee Club at 63833 98703.

The damaged lid of storm water drain at 1st Main Road, Golden Colony with stagnant sewage water. In one way it is dangerous and as well gives room for mosquitoes to breed. It has been left open for quite sometime. It’s high time the authorities concerned take action.

Tamizh Padam 2 opened to a mod-est opening by
the own admission of the production house and that the songs have made a telling impact.
Brimming with hap-piness, music composer N Kannan saw it as a collective victory to have met the challenge and the guts to go for a se-quel after eight years at the backdrop of the in-dustry seeing so many changes. For the com-poser, inevitably the first question has been on the delay between the first and second babies.
Not many are aware that Kannan’s second film fittingly titled ‘Eran-davadu Padam’ with C
S Amudhan had to be shelved for compelling reasons when the first copy was almost ready. “There were some teeth-ing production issues which cannot be di-vulged. Happily, the movie will now see the light of the day, thanks to the new-found confi-dence post the audience verdict.
For Kannan the huge challenge in Tamizh Padam 2 was in his mu-sic having to be serious though the visuals could be in a comical format and in a breezy fashion. “On the brighter side, we could have the luxury of nine full songs and four thrown in half measure. Right from the success-ful days of Kadhalikaa Neramillai to Ullathai
Alli Thaa’, songs had been the essence and soul of a full-fledged comical movie.”
Right from the open-ing number of ‘Naan Yarum Ellai, Naan Edu-vum Illai’ which had two different kind of treatment on the big screen, Kannan said that BGM had a pivotal part in the overall success. “I had to bring in the ‘De-var Magan’ effects to create the mood but had to keep one eye on vio-lating the copyrights is-sue. I just could not of-fend the sensibilities of the big names in an era where even the minutest thing is made as a social issue. Though the hap-penings were in a differ-ent era, there is a line of caution which could not
be treaded.”Harping on the fact
that he was not jobless in between the interven-ing period, Kannan said jingles kept him busy. “There was no big mon-ey but importantly, the mind was occupied. Now that the sequel has happened, I could confi-dently sound that I am back. I have the feel of working four films to-gether thanks to the total commitment of the pro-duction house.”
In the long run, Kan-nan desires to set his foot in other languages. “Music is an ocean and every drop has to be meaningful. Honestly, looking to render mean-ings in all genre and not restricted to in a pat-tern.”

No stranger to horror films after the experience of the blockbuster ‘Kan-chana’, cinematographer RB Gurudev said it was a cool stroll for him in Lon-don for Mohini. His work had come for great appre-ciation to the extent of being the only silver lining.
Admittedly, the movie has opened to a lukewarm opening but the consensus of the critics had been on the visual delights. Many saw that as the redeeming feature of Mohini. But then, Gurudev was in no
mood to single handedly take any credit.
“So much effort goes into the making of a mov-ie, more so in a horror-flick with reputed names like Trisha and director Mad-hesh. “My knowledge of London city after the ‘Chikku Bukku’ experi-ence helped a lot. Things were different shooting for a light hearted flick. For a horror script. there had to be a dark shade main-tained right through for the viewers to be drenched with fear. I had the luxury
of four cameras which came in handy in the well brought out car chase and the beauty of Thames river where the backdrop has to portray the hues of the century-old delight. which is a connect to London.”
On the brighter mo-ments during the making, Gurudev said there was the task of his visuals bringing to light the feel-ings of a woman protago-nist. The high energy stunts literally left me breathless and for the first time, I had to capture the underwater sequences. When the package is laden with sentiment, a speck of romance, oodles of action and a bit of science thrown in, my hands were full.
Honestly, I did not bargain for this kind of a challenge in one film.
There is the fulfilment written all over me but honestly felt that the end product deserved a better audience approbation.”
Post the ‘Mohini’ expe-rience, Gurudev is keen to
work on women-centric scripts where the camera have a field day. “Behind the lens, we are not short of ideas, but there has to be a platform. You put in the best effort for every film but Mohini will take the cake. I was not exactly drained out but the effort
left me in high spirits. Again, it takes a commer-cial director like Madhesh to bring out the best from a cinematographer. Once he gives the ideas, he does not butt
in till he views it in the monitor. Some of my best shots had emerged when the lights were dim but in tune with the flow and mood of the film.”
Epigenetics theory is something which Gurudev had not heard of till the shoot of ‘Mohini’ began. Over a period of time, he has gained a good knowl-edge of the syndrome. “That is the beauty of the medium, where one get to learn a few things outside the arc.”
Mohini will rank as one of my best: Gurudev
Today’s youth have been indulging them-selves to take care of their skin very diligently and meticulously by us-ing different creams,
moisturizers and nour-ishers according to their skin and seasons. Simi-larly, your deodorant too needs changes with vari-ations in seasons.
How to pick scents according to seasonThis is very true that
one needs to change our deodorants depending on changing seasons. A de-odorant should give ut-most satisfaction and contentment every sea-son. The dynamic needs of the consumers and the market have made us in-troduce Auto-Pause Te c h n o l o g y i n o u r ENVY Deodorants. This Technology makes the deodorant know how much he or she need with each spray.
The blossoming flow-ers and the romantic season of spring kindle our body to choose some oriental fragrances for the men and floral and bloomy fragrances for the women. This invigo-rates the inner charisma of people making them more refreshed and en-ergized throughout the day.
The scorching heat and searing winds of the summer season make it unbearable and excruci-
ating to stand this season. The active sweat glands of our body long for some deodorants that give a feeling of freshness and rejuvenation. Notes like citrus, aquatic and marine are ideal to use in summer season.
The fall or the transi-tion of summer to winter marks the onset of au-tumn by cooling down the temperature substan-tially. This season also requires a fragrance with refreshing notes. The
shedding of the tree leaves make the season to be a bit gloomy, therefore energize the inner you by stimulating and bracing yourself with some mag-nificent notes.
Winter: During this season, one must choose deodorants which have heavy notes like oud & amber which shall give an indelible fragrance while being cozy in your knit wears.

Open Relieving, Dumping of Garbage near temple
by our Correspondent
Residents living in and around the famed Arulmigu
Santhana Srinivasa Pe-rumal Temple in Mogap-pair West are complaining about the absence of basic civic amenities at the tem-ple. The temple, that draws devotees from many parts of the city as its presiding deity is Lord Santhana Srinivasa Perumal, just as in the globally reputed Ti-rumala Tirupati Devastha-nam, is now being main-tained and administered by the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department.
However, local resi-dents such as those living in Kambar Street and Vel-lalar Street complain that
the temple does not have basic amenities such as a wash room to cater to the hundreds of devotees who come there. "Due to this some devotees end up at-tending nature’s call at the nearby parking lot. This raises a stink and we are unable to bear this day in and day out. Many resi-dents here even keep their windows closed, for if they open it bad odour would overpower them,” says Ramakrishnan, a resident of Kambar Street, which is located adjacent to the Vellalar Street.
"Why can't the authori-ties construct toilets inside or near the temple prem-ises that could be used by devotees? If at all space is a constraint for the au-thorities, then they could at least ensure that mobile
or bio toilets are installed in the locality for use by the devotees. We residents cannot suffer endlessly because of the absence of a washroom in the tem-ple," he adds. Devotees usually take the Kambar Street from the main road to reach the temple.
This is just one part of the problem. A few other residents complain that garbage is not being re-moved from the streets on a regular basis by the Am-battur Division of the Greater Chennai Corpora-tion under whose civic ju-risdiction the locality falls.
“The whole idea of visiting the temple is to have peace of mind. For this it is very important to have the surroundings clean. What is the use of keeping the sanctum sanc-
torum clean, when there is garbage on the streets ad-joining the famed temple? I hope authorities realise that this is a pressing issue and pay some attention to this in the immediate fu-ture and ensure that gar-bage generated in the neighbourhood is cleared promptly on a daily basis by the conservancy staff engaged by the private agency hired by the Great-er Chennai Corporation for this purpose," said Go-palakrishnan, a resident of Vellalar Street.
Velammal Main School, under 14 team emerged winners in the John Doveton Throwball Tournament held on July 30.
