LXXIIIe Session De La Société Internationale Fernand De Visscher Pour L’histoire Des Droits De L’antiquité
Le droit et sa place dans le monde antique
A few words from your host: On behalf of the Dean of the School of Law, Professor Martin Hogg, the Chair of Civil law, Professor John W. Cairns, and my colleagues in the Centre for Legal History, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Edinburgh. It is our privilege and honour to host the 73rd annual conference of the Société Internationale Fernand de Visscher pour l’Histoire des Droits de l’Antiquité. As many of you will know, the conference of the Société, one of the most important annual events in our discipline, was instituted to provide an opportunity for scholars of the laws of antiquity to meet and to discuss their latest research. From its inception, the aim of this conference, and of the Société more generally, has been to foster and grow a truly international research community. I am heartened to see so many of you here in Edinburgh and I wish you a successful and productive conference.
Paul J. du Plessis Professor of Roman Law
