Dorothy (Dodie)Loreman Gross, of Auburn,AL, passed away suddenlyof a massive heart attackwhile walking in TownCreek Park on Saturdaymorning June 7, 2014.
Dodie was born April 21,1938, in Lincoln, NB toLevi Daniel and DorothyGladys Loreman. Shegraduated from TheodoreHigh School and attendedthe University of Alabamafrom 1955 to 1960, graduat-ing with a BS in homeeconomics. Dodie marriedCharles A. Gross onSeptember 17, 1960, inTuscaloosa, AL. Dodie andCharles moved to Rolla,Missouri, where they raisedtheir three boys David(1961), Robert (1962), andMichael (1965), andCharles served on the UMRfaculty while earning hisMS (1966) and PhD (1969).In 1972, the family movedto Auburn where Charlesaccepted an AssociateProfessorship at AU.
For many years, Dodietaught pre-school atAuburn First BaptistChurch, and subsequentlyserved as Director ofGrace Methodist ChurchPre-School until herretirement in 2002. Shenurtured and lovedcountless children andtheir parents throughouther working life. She wasan avid volunteer in manycivic activities, but AuburnFirst Baptist and AuburnCivitan in particular, whereshe served in many offices,including president.
A son comments that"she was known as ’Ruth’from the Bible; not onlyready and willing, buteager to put herself second
and serve others". A friendnotes the "I never knewDodie not to be smiling".Dodie enjoyed walkingwith Charles, traveling,square dancing (VillageSquares), and spendingtime with family.
Dodie is survived byher husband Charles; twosons David and Michael;daughter-in-laws Tracyand Sherry; five grandchildren Kevin, Natalie,Robyn, Steven, and Jenny;and four greatgrandchildren. Dodie waspreceded in death byher son Robert; her sisterDonna Foreman; and hertwo brothers, Ron and ReidLoreman.
A memorial service willbe held on June 21, 2014 atFirst Baptist Church ofAuburn at 2:00 pm. In lieuof flowers, the familyrequests that donations bemade to Civitan Interna-tional Scholarship Fund inthe name of Dodie Gross.Contact Kirk Iversen at334.332.7667 for details.

Museum presents filmsabout 1930s America
Jule Collins Smith Museum ofFine Art will present five filmsfrom “The American Experience:1930s” in June and July.
The series begins with an hour-long documentary on the 1929stock market collapse, Thursdayat 5 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
This collection of films exam-ines America’s response to thethreats facing the nation duringa tumultuous decade in history.The films are programmed to
coincide with the exhibition,“Picturing an Era: Art from theGreat Depression to the SecondWorld War,” featuring worksfrom the museum’s permanentcollection.
