Local rock band Navar, heard playinglocally in Allegany, will now rock theReilly Center Arena at St. Bonaventure

University as it opens for this year’s SpringWeekend concert headliners, Reel Big Fish, at8 p.m. Thursday, April 28.

“We are honored to play the St.Bonaventure springconcert, mainlybecause we have allattended this annualSBU tradition asmusic fans,” saidPat Barry, leadsinger. “It makes iteven more specialfor Tim and ourmanager, Adam, tobe a part of this asSt. Bonaventurealumni.”

Navar, a self-man-aged and independentband founded in 2002 in Fillmore, N.Y., hasopened for multi-platinum recording artistsThird Eye Blind and The Goo Goo Dolls. Theband has played nearly 90 shows all over NewYork state, including Rochester, Buffalo andNew York City.

Navar was the dream of lead singer and gui-tar player Pat Barry. Barry began playing withhis brother, Ben, a bass veteran, and the tworecorded a 12-song, self-titled debut.

Over the next year, Navar saw band mem-bers come and go. Fortunately, Mike “Skippy”Yudichak on guitar and Tim Lindhome ondrums soon joined the band to create what is

now Navar. Together they created the“Unreleased EP.” EP was never formallyreleased because their popular “Everything’sthe Same” single drove them into the studio torecord their second full-length album “YourWindow.”

Together with producer Marc Hunt andRobby Takac, produc-

er and member of“The Goo GooDolls,” Navarentered ChameleonWest recording stu-dio, owned byTakac, to create the15-track album“Your Window.” Thealbum is full ofwhat Navar hasbecome known for— passion.Navar has also

been broadcasted onthe nationally syndicated Howard Stern Showand featured on XM Satellite Radio. The bandhas played many shows in the heart of NYC’smusic scene, including such venues as CBGB,Arlene Grocery, The Luna Lounge and TheAlphabet Lounge.

Navar can be heard locally on FM Radio101.5-the Mix in Olean and is in rotation atBona’s WSBU-FM the Buzz, which has alsodone two on-air interviews with the band.Articles have been written about Navar in localpapers, including the Cuba Patriot and The(Olean) Times Herald.

Better yet, get your club, organization orteam together to man a game booth Friday,April 29, and Saturday, April 30. The booths —as well as a number of prizes for winners —will be provided. And, better yet, your organi-zation gets to keep a portion of the money your

booth brings in. Game booths will be centrally located on the

outdoor basketball courts between the ReillyCenter and the Sandra A. and William L.Richter Center and need to be manned from 4-7 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.In addition to being close to the cotton candystand, the game booths will be adjacent to theoutdoor stage, which will feature entertainmentincluding the student band Stop Seven (for-merly Nullnvoid).

ceremony at 7 p.m. Monday, in the atrium of The ReginaA. Quick Center for the Arts.

Fr. Michael Duffy, director of St. Francis Inn, aFranciscan soup kitchen in Philadelphia, will give a briefkeynote address on “The Dignity of the Poor.”

The Warming House, which began in academic year1974-75, was honored in fall 2003 with a national awardfor “Forming Christian Conscience” from the CatholicCampus Ministry Association, one of only seven such

ministry programs to be recognized nationally. The awardwas presented during a Bishops’ Reception with the U.S.Conference of Catholic Bishops on Nov. 12, 2003, inWashington, D.C.

For 30 years, University students, faculty and friars,working in collaboration with community volunteers, haveprovided food and companionship to the needy of theOlean area. The soup kitchen is currently located at 110W. State St., Olean.
