Associate of Applied Science Degree

1. Verify completeness, accuracy, and proper

entry of patient information in both electronic

and paper health records

2. Use computer applications to analyze,

abstract, and track patient data

3. Assign ICD-10 and/or CPT/HCPCS codes to

diagnoses and procedures needed to submit

insurance claims for reimbursement

4. Work in hospitals, physician practices, nursing

homes, insurance companies, and other

non-traditional healthcare settings

The Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology (HIT) degree at Ferris State

University prepares our graduates to meet the challenges of the business side of the health care

industry. Ferris HIT graduates are proficient in ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS coding, billing,

analyzing, managing, and utilizing patient care data.

Students can enter the HIT program in Fall, Spring, or

Summer semester.

Classes are offered in Big Rapids during the day and

Grand Rapids in the evening

For graduates of an accredited Health Information

Technology program, all of the professional courses in

the HIT program can be taken online

HCMA (Healthcare Management Association) – composed

of various programs in the College of Health Professions

who promote the health professions

Conduct fundraising activities for various charities

Sponsor social activities for the organization as well as

the community

Secure guest speakers to talk on relevant topics to

members
