ALL ABOUT LIPOSUCTION
Our bodies are apt to be our autobiographies.” – Frank Gillette Burgess
Liposuction is a technique that removes unwanted fat deposited in various parts of the body like neck, upper arms, abdomen, back, buttocks, hips, thighs, etc.
A small hollow metal tube known as cannula is used to suck the unwanted fat from the body
What does liposuction achieve? Help contour one’s body shape Establishes normal proportions between various parts of the body
Types of Liposuction Tumescent Liposuction Ultrasonic Liposuction
How is Tumescent Liposuction done? 3-4millimeters incision is made adjacent to the localized fat pocket Liposuction fluid that consists of saline with medications is injected into
fatty tissue While the salt water distends the fatty layer, the medications numb the
area and reduce the extent of bleeding Liposuction is performed after all the required area is treated with this
solution The cannula is inserted through small skin incisions into the fatty tissues.
The vacuum section of the cannula provides the suction needed to remove the fat
How is Ultrasonic liposuction done? This is similar to tumescent liposuction, but the only difference is that it
uses ultrasound energy to breakdown the fat. Once the tumescent solution is injected into the fatty areas, an ultra
sound probe is inserted and moved back and forth Every area is treated multiple times with ultrasound energy to break down
the fat
Recovery Period Recovery time depends upon the area as well as degree of liposuction
performed It may take one day for minor liposuction and up to one week for
extensive liposuction
Care after Liposuction………. You’ll have to wear the compression garment for 24hours a day except
while showering for up to six weeks Follow the specific instructions given by your plastic surgeon while
showering If you undergo extensive liposuction, you will have drains to reduce
bruising. You need to take care of the drains as per your surgeon’s instruction.
