President’s Message Fellow Members:
First of all, thank you for your patience as we undergo
a couple of major projects to update our clubhouse and
grounds to help position us for future growth and
strengthen our position as a thriving and successful
Club. I will warn you that we are still early in the
process and while we are making good headway on
two of our projects, one of them is still in the drawing
phase so we haven’t felt the brunt of that one yet.
Hold tight because it will all be worth it. Following are some updates:
Men’s Locker Room (MLR): Any of you who have been through the
MLR hallway or attempted to access your locker will know that there is a
lot going on in there right now and if you’re as round as I am it can be a
little difficult to scoot past the construction barrier. The wet areas have
been completely demolished and are beginning the rebuilding stage. That
was the easy part. I’m sure that you know, “all the kings horses and all
the kings men…” Anyway, as one can expect with a 100 year old build-
ing there have been a couple of unforeseeable obstacles, but we continue
to work through them. Our deadline of April 22nd (men’s opening day)
seems like plenty of time to complete but I’m hoping that isn’t just my
rosy optimism. We will be pushing up against that date for completion
because there are a lot of moving parts so everyone should keep their
fingers crossed and let’s stay positive.
Driving Range – Hole #3: Looks like a whole lot of empty doesn’t it?
It’s going to get a little emptier because the Board of Governors has
unanimously agreed to BURY THE LINES! Yes, those power lines will
get buried during this process. As many of you may recall, the original
plan included burial of the power lines, but due to some design changes
we thought we could save a few $$ and spend it to make additional
improvements elsewhere. We did that. It didn’t work out aesthetically.
We’re fixing it. The tee area of the driving range will come in somewhere
larger than TWICE its original size. Hole #3 will have some dramatic
changes with fairway shifting and sand trap redesigning. Also, the Ladies
tee box will now be moved to the opposite side of the driving range.
Ladies, you may want to work on your ball shaping because this is going
to be a completely different hole for you. The short game area is in the
process of being shaped as well. During this project we have taken the
opportunity to add some more parking spaces to our middle lot. This will
certainly help out this summer.
Casual/Family Dining: There is not a lot to say about this project other
than it is nearing the end of the drawing stage and final designs will be
discussed and completed shortly so that we can begin the bidding process
to find and hire a contractor. If you’re like me you might think this is the
easy project. Guess again. There is a lot of engineering necessary to
make this all come together properly. Unfortunately this could be the
biggest headache to deal with because of the location and logistics re-
quired to mobilize. Stay tuned for updates.

Dear Members,
It was an interesting February and there is plenty of activity at South Hills Country
Club. This past week the weather was beautiful and over 80 golfers hit the course to
take advantage of the unseasonable outdoor temperatures. Then again, considering
winter trends over the past few years, maybe such mild interludes are becoming the
norm and not the exception. Either way we will take the good fortune and welcome
any additional surprises. Remember, weather dependant, the Golf Course and Carts are available
to you during the winter months.
As March begins it is officially “Membership Season”. All South Hill Country Club Members will
soon receive a “Call to Action” from the Membership Committee. Every year the most fertile source
of new Membership prospects comes from YOU, the existing Club Membership, and we need your
help again in 2017. Please reach out to appropriate family, friends and colleagues to invite them to
join the South Hills Country Club Family. Strong Membership growth insures a Strong Club and
you are the most important part of the process. Membership Director Jackie Clark has scheduled a
Prospective Member Open House on Friday, March 24th.. “Rattle the Cage” (so to speak) and bring
out a future Member to your great Club for a night of fun and socializing.
Overall, clubhouse activity has been encouraging early in 2017 with good Member Ala Carte traffic
taking advantage of Chef John’s delicious Thursday specials and wonderful culinary creations.
Glenn Stein and Marc Kania are committed to providing better service to the Membership than ever
and feedback has been very positive so far. Please don’t forget about the South Hills Country Club
Banquet operation. Barb Sachko will help you book that social event, graduation party, milestone
dinner or special wedding experience that might be on the horizon. We love activity and look
forward to seeing everyone at the Club in the near future.
Thanks and see you at the Club.

Last year, the South Hills Country Club had a strong membership drive and welcomed 75 new Members! In only our first 3 months we had added nearly 30 new members to the South Hills Country Club family. Considering that most new members join a golf club during the months of April, May and June we need your help right away in order to surpass our 2016 numbers.
The Membership committee is asking everyone to commu-
nicate our 2017 Campaign to 4-5 individuals who would be
good additions to the South Hills Country Club family.
Do you know someone who:
Recently relocated to the area and is looking to meet new people
Recently earned a promotion and wants to treat themselves to the South Hills CC experience
Owns their own business and could use a great place to entertain clients
Whose children are starting to play golf
Is unhappy with their current club
Recently retired and is looking for great golf and social activities All these people would be great prospects for membership at South Hills Country Club. Now is the perfect time to bring a prospective member to play golf or show off the great facilities at the Club.
Please contact our General Manager, Vince Daversa or our Membership Director, Jackie Clark should you have any further questions. Thank you!

Many of us got a little taste of it during the end of February, so I hope
(as I do most years) that Punxsutawney Phil and Dunkirk Dave were
wrong in their predictions and that we will have an early spring.
It was pretty nice hanging out on the Adirondack chairs watching
golfers come in during the final Friday in February. That doesn’t
happen often. Keep good thoughts.
As always, I wish you well and LET’S COME OUT AND ENJOY

The Wine Rack New Season with New Wines
With spring rapidly approaching, we wanted to revamp some of our wine
listings for this coming season. When tasting possible selections I try to
find great value as well as wine that is true to its varietal. It’s a hard job
but hey, someone has to do it. Another part of selecting new wines is
looking at the club drinking history and after review, the results show
that New World and California wines tip the scale. You always hear me
say that I want to continue to educate and expand the palate, so a new
wine list is a part of that opportunity. Some of the newly added labels
include Foppiano, Sean Minor and Elk Cove as well as some old worlds
such as Valpolicella Ripasso and DueTorri. I am very excited about our
new listings and can’t wait for you to try them as well.
Cheers! Marc Kania, Assistant Food & Beverage Director

It’s hard to believe that it’s already March, but that only means the golf
season is right around the corner! The planning for the 2017 season is in its
final stages and the events should be fun and enjoyable to all.
The “9 Holers” Golf Group will have a kick-off meeting on Thursday,
March 16, at 6:30 pm. Join us for cocktails, appetizers, and friendship.
Whether you are a new golfer or a golfer who just wants to play 9 holes,
think about playing with the “9 Holers” on Tuesdays at 4 pm. Enjoy 9 holes
of FUN golf and dinner with friends!
As you already know, there are three big renovation projects going on at
SHCC right now – improvements in the Men’s Locker Room, a new dining
area, and a new practice facility. But did you know that the Ladies’ Locker
Room is getting some improvements of its own? The lights and ceiling tiles
in the locker area have been replaced, the walls are getting a fresh coat of
paint, and the damaged baseboards are being replaced. Although still a work
in progress, the locker area is already looking cleaner, brighter, and more
inviting! On behalf of the WGA, I want to thank the Board of Governors,
Vince DaVersa, and Glenn Stein for getting these improvements made.
Our Opening Meeting event will be on Tuesday, April 4. Once again, this
event will feature vendors selling golf paraphernalia arranged by our awe-
some Pro Shop. We will start with a cocktail party while we shop and enjoy
some wonderful food prepared by Chef John. You won’t want to miss this
fun evening. Come and socialize with all the great women of the SHCC
WGA and get ready to start the new golf season!
I want to thank the 2017 WGA Board for all of their hard work, dedication,
and enthusiasm. They are a wonderful group of ladies! I am proud to work
with them and call them friends!
