Principal’s Report
Gold for Ellie at National School Swimming Championships!
Congratulations to Ellie B from 4M who has so far won three gold medals at the School Sport Australia Swimming Championship. Ellie has been in Darwin, representing NSW Primary Schools Sports Association. She has performed brilliantly, winning the 50m and 100m backstroke and was part of the winning medley relay team, swimming the backstroke leg. Well done Ellie!
School Swimming Scheme Our Year 2 and some Years 3-6 students have been making wonderful progress in their swimming skills and increased their confidence in water activities during the intensive Swimming Scheme program. After the first week, many students were already showing improvement in technique and distance. It was a pleasure to watch them enjoying their lessons and making such noticeable progress!
Enrol for Kindy 2017 today! If you have a child turning 5 years old before 31 July 2017 or you know of a neighbour or friend in our catchment area – it is time to enrol for Kindergarten now! We want to make sure that you join in the transition to school program and benefit from our Kindergarten Orientation activities.
Happy Holidays I wish everyone a happy and relaxing spring holiday break. Thanks to all the students, teachers and parents/carers for making this term productive, exciting and full of outstanding achievements.
Camp Quality Puppets visit LPS
The puppeteers from Camp Quality had their audiences enthralled as they presented messages about cancer to our K-6 students. Using age appropriate shows, they communicated to the students that cancer cannot be caught; chemotherapy is a strong medicine but it does have side effects; the power of positivity and that it is not what you look like on the outside that counts but what you are like on the inside.
Lend Lease volunteers ‘lend a hand’
A team from Lend Lease carried out many projects to improve the school facilities as part of their volunteer day. We benefited from their labour as they painted an outdoor chess board, painted tables, moved mulch, laminated games and resources, painted a seat and decorated 2M’s demountable. Thank you Lend Lease for your efforts – we are very appreciative!
School Swimming Timetable for Term 4 – starts Week 1
Our school swimming program recommences on the first day of Term 4, Monday 10 October. Please be prepared with swimming costume, towel, underwear etc. Classes will swim on the following days:
Mondays 5G, 3 / 4E, 3H, 4S and 5S Tuesdays 1C, 4N and 2D Wednesdays 1W, 2R, 3B, 2B, 6A and 5/6K Thursdays 1H, 3GP, 2PT, 4G, 1D and 6S Fridays 1V, 2M, 5/6D and 4M
Wombat Stew
I enjoyed reading how to make ‘Wombat Stew’ as written by the students of 1C. Their version included adding chocolates and lollies to jelly – sounds and looks delicious! They shared their written ‘procedures’ of how to make the jelly and then add the lolly snakes, chocolates and sprinkles. I am sure that there is none left!
Dance of Champions On Sunday, our Senior Dance Troupe was one of 17 finalists in the McDonald's Sydney Eisteddfod 'Dance of Champions'. Their performance of the James Bond theme was outstanding and we were so proud of them. Miss Maclaine, Mrs Cornell and myself thoroughly enjoyed the evening and look forward to the event being televised on Channel 10 on Sunday 16 October at 12 noon. Well done, Senior Dance Troupe!
Advance Notice – Presentation Day Assemblies: Save the Dates! This year, we will be holding our Presentation Day Assemblies at our own school. UTS Lindfield is unavailable as construction of the new educational complex on the site will commence soon. We have decided to hold stage-based celebrations of student achievements and entertain audiences with musical and dance items. Invitations will be issued closer to the end of the year but the dates are as follows:
Kindergarten – Monday 5 December from 9.30 – 11.00am Stage 1 - Tuesday 6 December from 9.30 – 11am Stage 2 – Wednesday 7 December from 9.30 -11am Stage 3 – Thursday 8 December from 9.30 -11am
Killara Schools Partnership Middle Years Project
Last Thursday we celebrated the culmination of the Middle Years Project about feedback to students. Primary teachers from our Killara Schools Partnership paired with Killara High School teachers to team teach lessons in both the high school and primary class. It was not only an excellent professional learning opportunity but it gave both teachers an appreciation of teaching outside your own stage and school. Thanks to Mr Gortley for representing Lindfield PS.

Deputy Principals’ Report
Thank You Lend Lease!
We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Edward Tai and Lend Lease for taking part in a community day at our school. Lend Lease painted the seats on Camphor Laurel, the rainbow seat near Palm Playground, a brand new chess board located in the Breezeway area and bright panels on one of our demountable classrooms. They also helped cover books and make resources in the library and spent hours pruning and gardening around the school. We are overjoyed with the results and would like to acknowledge all their hard work. Thank you!
Garden Club Co-Op This Week
This week the Years 3-6 Garden Club will be selling heirloom tomato plants that have been raised from seeds for $5.00 each. They will be on sale on Maple Playground this Thursday and Friday morning from 8.30am. Other produce grown in our school kitchen gardens will also be on sale in exchange for a donation. Organic produce includes kale, lettuce, parsley and a variety of herbs. All funds raised go directly to buying seeds for our spring and summer crops. We thank you for your support with this thriving environmental program.
Sporting Achievements
Congratulations to our Stage 3 boys who have won again in the State Cricket Knockout. They defeated Hornsby North and Felix and Toby both made more than 30 runs when batting. They will now go on to play against Wamberal from the Central Coast. Well done also to our Junior D Netball team that were placed as runners up in the PSSA Netball competition. At half time they were winning by one goal but unfortunately they lost 4-3 playing a very close game against Chatswood PS. Thank you to Miss Nero and Mr Elsley for coaching our teams.

Word of the Week
This year LPS has been focusing on building vocabulary. Each week students have learnt a new word they probably haven’t been exposed to. Students explored their meaning, putting them into sentences and often used these words in real life situations. Teachers were extremely impressed when their students began to use them in their writing or when having discussions. Here are some examples of the words we have added to our vocabulary.

Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School
At Lindfield Public School in 2016, we have a small number of children with a potentially life threatening allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6. How can parents help these children?
• If possible, choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. If you have no alternative, inform your child that these foods can trigger an anaphylactic reaction.
• Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.

Social Justice
Mystery Solved: Why is this possibly the last year of Operation Christmas Child? (OCC boxes now at the LPS office – see attached poster for details).
Because after seven years, it’s time for me to let someone else with new energy and vision take on the role of convenor of the LPS Social Justice Committee - so next year someone else will be empowered to coordinate which SJ events happen and who will benefit!
Yes - the Position of Social Justice Convenor is Open!
Do you have what it takes to inspire and organise a small, but amazing team of parent and child helpers who form the heart and soul of the LPS Social Justice Committee? And to coordinate with the school leadership, staff and the P&C? I never thought I did - but it’s amazing what can happen when you take the chance and step up!
Ever had a dream to change the world and didn’t know where to start – the best place is right where you are! Yes, no one can do everything – but is it time to do something more – like helping to empower LPS children to care?(Or if you’re not ready to be convenor but want to be involved – then come and still join the team!)
But if you are thinking about it, the plan is this: anyone interested in ‘having a go’ can nominate to be acting convenor for Term 4 at our first SJ meeting in Week 2. Formal voting on the position will be by the full P&C in February next year so no final decisions need to be made until then. Contact me, current convenor Nadja Leffler, if you would like more information at: [email protected].
