With a 2ft / .6 meter to 4ft / 1.2 meter per minute variable speed adjustment as well as a 0 to 60 second adjustable time delay, LightRail’s AdjustaDrive 4.0 digital circuitry gives you the ulti-mate in control, ensuring even growth throughout your garden.
Moving your grow lights offers significant advantages. By distributing light at a greater range of angles at the correct intensity, more of the plant is covered during the photoperiod. So the maximum Leaf Area Index can be achieved. Simply put, a moving Grow Light helps more leaves absorb more light energy, and you benefit.

Even Growth
Your LightWhy Move
Moving your light can increase cover-age by up to 30%. LightRail helps you maintain the correct intensity while running the light closer. You’ll also re-duce shadow patterns, eliminate hot spots, get better yields and depending on your light, you may save as much as 23% per year all the while getting maximum results.
Give your garden even coverage; eliminate shadow patterns while maximizing the power of your bulb.
Increased Light Coverage
You could be losing as much as 60% of your lights energy because static lighting lacks the ability to diversify itself by maxi-mizing your plants energy absorbing surfaces at the correct intensity. Moving your light offers considerable flexibility in terms of plant to lamp tolerance and plant spacing. Provide light intermit-tently on more leaves during 40% of the photoperiod at the correct intensity, so the maximum LAI (Leaf Area Index) can be achieved.

21”
Q: Why do I want to move my light? A: By moving your light and getting the light in there at angles to the mid and lower leaves, more of the plant is involved in photosyn-thesis with more of the leaves working for the plant. In addition, by moving your light, hot spots are eliminated so you can now run your light much closer to your plants for a much more efficient use of your wattage. These two advantages combined make for much healthier plants and much better yields.
Q: Tell me about the rails of my LightRail and can I change the length? A: LightRail 3.5, 4.0 and the older 3.0 all use the same rail which is 6’6” (2 meters) in length. LightRail 5.0 has a different rail width so is not compatible with the others for interchanging and its length is 8 feet (2.4 meters). Yes, the length of travel can be set by you with the adjustable switch stops and for tight spaces, the length of the rail can be cut to fit.
Q: Why an adjustable time delay and what’s a good setting for that? A: Without this feature, your light would spend more time travelling in the middle compared to time spent on the ends. By setting the 0-60 second time delay at the ends for about 35 seconds, you get more even light time for the whole run. Experiment and see what works best for you.
Q: Can I move my light the whole length of the room? A: You know better. Moving just four feet (1.2 meters) or so from switch stop to switch stop (that’s equal to about 6 feet or 1.8 meters of light, considering the hood goes out farther than that and the light pattern goes out farther still) is about right for light loving plants. Far-ther than that and your plants might be waiting too long for the light to come back and of course, lower light plants can have a longer run.
Q: How much weight will LightRail carry? A: LightRail 3.5 or 4.0, if mounted continuously along the rail through all the mounting holes first to a board, and then the board to the ceiling, it will easily carry 75 lbs (34 kgs) as long as the board is mounted sufficiently to a structure that will handle the weight. If mounted only from the end points, it will carry 35 lbs (16kgs). LightRail 5.0 will hold 100 lbs (45 kgs) per bar but again, needs to be mounted to a structure properly. Note: The greater the weight, the more frequently trolley wheels will need to be replaced. Trolley wheel kits are available on our website www.lightrail3.com or at this hydro-ponic store for LightRail 3.5, 4.0 and the older 3.0, but LightRail 5.0 needs our personal attention for any serviceable work and we make that easy and with a quick turnaround time.
Q: Can I hang my ballast on the mover? A: Not recommended.
Q: How can vent tubing work with LightRail? A: Our Auxiliary Trolley can carry your vent tubing and move along your rail in unison with your motor and this works best to have the vent tubing in line with the rail. For LightRail 5.0, balance is key and if the unit isn’t completely balanced and that’s with the addition of vent tubing, you will likely have trouble.
LIGHTRAIL® FAQsQ: Can I power the unit from my ballast? A: Don’t even think about it. This will burn out the circuit board.
Q: How does an Add -A –Lamp work and how many lights are we talking about? A: With the use of a second rail, an auxiliary trolley and an extension rod hooked to your 3.0, 3.5 or 4.0 drive motor, you can add a second light.
Q: What’s the difference between LightRail 3.5 and 4.0? A: They both have 0-60 second adjustable time delay for the ends and they have the same rail but the 4.0 has the added feature of a two to four feet (.6 to 1.2 meters) per minute adjust-able speed control as it travels along the rail. The 3.5 and 4.0 are compatible with using all the same accessory items including drive wheels and trolley wheels.
Q: Can I hang LightRail in a tent or greenhouse? A: Yes, we have Rail Hangers which are tent rail hanging brackets for hanging LightRail 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 rails in a tent or greenhouse.
Q: At 10 rpm, what’s the travel speed in feet per minute? A: 10 rmp equals 3.9 feet (1.2 meters) travel distance per minute.
Q: Can I hang a LightRail 5.0 crossbar on LightRail 3.5 or 4.0? A: The lateral stability isn’t there for that and there are balance issues. It would lead to accelerated wear and maybe even catastrophic failure so “no”.
Q: Why LightRail and not some other brand? A: Don’t get me started. Made in America Matters and we’re solidly built to last. Chinese knockoffs are inferior and absolutely don’t last. They run at very high temperatures and yet their elec-trical enclosures are made of flammable plastic. They use electri-cal motors and components that carry no approval credentials or electrical ratings and the overall size and quality of the materials are inferior.
Q: How much power does LightRail consume? A: LightRail 3.5 and 5.0 run on just 5.5 watts/ .05 amps @120 VAC. That’s about the same as a night light. The LightRail 4.0 runs on 9 watts/ .75 amps @ 12 VDC.
Q: Can I get replacement parts or service? A: Yes. Ask this store to order you any parts you might need or through our website for the harder to find items. Also, this store can contact us through [email protected] or 877-674-9294 for any service work and we can usually get repaired motors back very quickly.
Q: How many lights can LightRail 5.0 move? A: 9 smaller hoods or 6 larger hoods and that’s with a total of three crossbars (one comes with the kit) and an auxiliary rail. (See Diagram Lightrail 5.0)
