LETTERS FROM THE PRESIDENTS AND ADVISOR

Four years ago I was asked to be the advisor to the Class of 2016. I remember praying that the time would fly and counting down the years until it was over. Well, those four years are over and I am so sad to see you all go. From the Fuddrucker dine out nights to the Powder Puff games to ice skating, I am truly going to miss this little family we have created. I am positive that each of you will be very successful after you graduate. After graduation, the transition to col-lege or to the workforce may be a difficult one, but I am confident in each and every one of you. Over the past four years you have showed me what incredible students and people that all of you are and I have no doubt in my mind that you will continue to excel once you leave Franklin. I am very grateful to have been able to be the advisor to such an incredible group. If you’re not sure where to find me at graduation, just look on stage for the teacher ugly-crying in her chair. Thanks for making these past four years better than I could have ever imagined.

-Ms. Goff

Being class president is not a position that should be taken lightly. We have an obligation to serve my constituents and ensure that we lead our school under the Franklin Constitu-tion. Without monthly dine out nights and Yankee Candle fundraisers, chaos would reign supreme. While the job is really serious, there are definitely some perks. We get to go to the bathroom without a pass whenever we wanted and got to cut the line when the foot-ball team had autograph sessions. Overall the life of class president was pretty sweet.

-Barret Rus and Jimmy Lahay

ROBYN SCHERBATSKY’S BREAKING NEWS:

OVERVIEW OF THE YEAR

The 2015-2016 school year has been one to remember. The first day of the new school year is always exciting one. Students navigate through the halls trying to find that fastest route from one class to the next, taking in new faces, greeting old friends and teach-ers, and anticipating what the future year will hold. The first day is especially emotional for seniors, who are start-ing the first page, of the last chapter of high school. Going into the school year, many stu-dents already had high hopes for Franklin’s fall sports. Franklin’s foot-ball team had been state champs for the past two years, and many thought that the boys would be able to make to M&T Bank Stadium for a third year in a row. Although the season was an ex-tremely exciting one, Franklin lost in the state semi-finals to Dundalk.

The fall months had many other fun activities besides sports. While fall sports were winding down, Frank-lin’s theater depart-ment put on a spec-tacular production of Romeo and Juliet where the audience was right on stage with the cast members. Stu-dents also participated in spirit week, where they dressed according to each day’s theme the week leading up to homecoming. On homecoming night, freshman, sophomores,

juniors, and seniors all dressed up for a fun night of singing and dancing in the school’s gymnasium.

As winter set in and the weather changed, students hoped for a lot of snow days. Their wishes came true when Reisterstown was hit with almost 30 inches of snow in late January. This massive accumulation of snow got Baltimore County students out of school for an entire school week. Although many students still had snow day work, the BCPS closings resulted in a lot of fun memories as students went on skiing trips, played in the snow with their families, or relaxed and watched

movies with friends. As the months went on, students spent their days learning, participating in clubs, and helping the com-munity. Franklin’s AP scholars were honored for their high academic achievement on the past year’s AP exams. Students participated in Key Club’s trip to the District National Con-vention, Science Na-tional Societies’ annual

STEM night, and the Think Pink’s field trip to Sinai Hospital’s Infusion

Center. Students raised money for UNICEF, col-lected pennies for chil-dren with cancer, and donated food to Re-isterstown’s local food drive. Franklin’s out-standing student ath-letes signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic careers in college. Just a few of these talented indi-viduals included Steven Smothers who will play football at West Virgin-

by the cast’s ability to entertain through song and dance. As the year came to an end, many clubs held elections to relinquish the seniors of their leadership roles, and pass the respon-sibility onto Franklin’s younger students.

Franklin’s fac-ulty and students alike are proud to see what the future will hold for Franklin’s seniors, They are now ready to move on to the next chapter of their lives and al-low the underclassman to take the reigns of Franklin High School.

Mrs.Cascio:“Do the college interviews if the school offers them, because putting a name to a makes a big differ-

ence.”“Make sure you do scholarships and fafsa as soon as

possible.”

Señora Shelton:“Some students in the senior class come to me when they do not know which direction they should take.

My biggest piece of advice would be to find your pas-sion and go from there. Everything will fall into place if you can figure out what you love to do and how to make money doing it. Also, some students don’t

believe that they will get into the colleges they desire, therefore they don’t apply. Apply to as many schools as you want to, you must keep your options open.”

Mrs. Molfino: “Small minds come from small towns. Be open

minded to new experiences and diverse people’s lives. Open your minds and fill it with new perspectives.”

Mr. Brown:“Make sure to befriend your RA, do a killer job on your first essay or assignment, and be nice to your

professors!”

Ms. Pizzariello’s:“Find a good study place, for instance, my perfect

and quite study place was a library. Also, acknowl-edge your professors and teachers so you can start off

with friendly and good relationship.”

Ms.Dunn:“Don’t party too much and be mindful of your deci-sions. What you say and what you do can come back

and haunt you.”

THE PLAYBOOK: TEACHER TIPS FOR COLLEGE

I have been a member of the Gazette for two years, and it has been a great experience be-

ing able to write about various different topics. Taking journalism allowed me to become a bet-ter writer. Good luck all the graduating seniors and to future writers of the Gazette.- Bridget

McNamara

Although I have only been a part of Frank-lin’s newspaper for one year, I have learned a lot and grown as a writer. I am thankful my

experiences as an editor and I wish the staff of The Gazette good luck in the years to follow.

Congrats seniors.- Mackenzie Warfield

Being an editor has made me realize that I might want to major in something related to

journalism. I am thankful that I had this oppor-tunity. it allowed me to grow as a writer. It was

hard work, but was definitely worth it.-Regan Fleisher

It’s been a fun 2 years working on the news-paper. It was a great run and it won’t be the

same kind of ride without you guys. For under-classmen, never give up. And for the seniors, I

wish you all the best of luck wherever the road takes you.- Ayinde Roberts
