FROM THE DESK OF THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents / Guardians, Welcome back to a new school term! We hope that you and your family have enjoyed a good holiday break. Semester 2 is going to be an exciting time as we witness two historical milestones, YNPS 80th anniversary and Singapores Jubilee celebration. Attached together with this letter is the calendar of key school events and assessment dates for Semester two for your easy reference. Let me now share some key developments and updates in the school. 1. ACHIEVEMENTS AND ACCOLADES We would like to congratulate our pupils and staff who have done well in the various CCAs and competitions. I am very proud of the commitment, perseverance and sportsmanship they have demonstrated. I would also like to thank all parents, teachers and coaches for their unwavering support and involvement in our pupils holistic development.
Student Achievements 1.1 Frank Cooper Sands Award
Yu Neng Wolverine cub scouts won a third consecutive GOLD award at the 2014 Frank Cooper Sands Award following their first and second GOLD award in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Last year, our cub scouts were well-trained at regular scouts meetings and prepared rigorously for the qualifying activities. Their diligence and commitment have led them to the third GOLD award. Congratulations to our young scouts! 1.2 Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) 2015 Art Exhibition
We are proud to share that the art work by our young artists have been selected for the SYF Exhibition and it will be displayed at Raffles City Shopping Centre 10-19 July 2015. With the theme of artist: Past. Present. Future, the Art Exhibition celebrates the artist in every pupil. Our pupil artists will be at the exhibition site on Sat, 11 July 12-1pm to share with the audience their art work. Parents and members of the public are welcome to the Art Exhibition to support the artistic endeavours of our pupil artists.

Staff Achievements 1.4 Excellent Service Award 2015
The EXSA, launched by Spring Singapore in 1994, is a national award that recognises individuals in both the public and private sectors who have delivered quality service. It seeks to develop service models within organisations for staff to emulate, create service champions and professionalise customer service. 1.5 Excellent Technology Assistant Award We would like to congratulate Mr Shammi Dominic, Yu Neng's resident Technology Assistant (TA), who recently received the Excellent Technology Assistant (eTA) award by National Computer Systems (NCS) for the period of January to June 2015. The award, supported by nominations from schools, recognises the outstanding service rendered to the school by a TA. Mr Shammi Dominic has previously won the award for the period of July to December 2014. Congratulations to Mr Shammi Dominic!
1.6 MOE Service Excellence Award MOE Service Excellence Award (MSEA) is a MOE-wide Award that recognises MOE staff who are inspirational and passionate in their service delivery, consistently serve internal and external customers with C.A.R.E [Courtesy, Accessibility, Responsiveness and Effectiveness], and inspire their colleagues to do likewise. We are happy to announce that our school Administration Manager, Mdm Liew Siew Meng Dawn has been awarded MSEA for her outstanding service. Congratulations, Mdm Liew!

2. UPDATES 2.1 P1 Registration
The 2015 Primary1 Registration Exercise is for children born between 2 January 2009 and 1 January 2010 (both dates inclusive). The children should be at least 6 years old on 1 January at the year of admission. Registration is conducted at the primary school that you wish your child to be admitted into during the eligible phase. Please refer to our school website
(http://www.yunengpri.moe.edu.sg) for the dates for the different phases of registration. Phase 1 is only for children who are Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents with a sibling studying in Yu Neng Primary School. Phase 1 Registration Forms have already been issued to your child currently studying in our school at the end of Term 2. We would like to thank parents for submitting the completed registration forms to us promptly. Please note that once you have made your submission, you do not need to come down personally to the General Office during the Phase 1 period. Our admin staff will proceed to register your child and inform you accordingly. Should you have any queries, please contact our Administration Manager, Mdm Dawn Liew at 64490121 during office hours. 3. UPCOMING EVENTS
3.1 CO Performance at Wuchuan Cantonese Charity Opera Show, Fri 10 July
Our school Chinese Orchestra CCA group has been invited to perform at the Wuchuan Cantonese Opera Charity Show on Fri 10 July at the Kreta Ayer Peoples Theatre at 7.30 pm. The pupils have been training hard to put up a good performance for a good cause. A special invitation was extended to all the parents of the Chinese Orchestra members to join their children at the charity show.
3.2 National Education Show, Sat 11 July The National Education (NE) Show is organised every year to instil a sense of patriotism in our pupils and to bring across the significance of our National Day. This year, our Primary 5 pupils will be attending the NE show on Sat., 11 July 2014 at the Padang to celebrate Singapores Golden Jubilee! Our Primary 5 pupil cohort will be attending the NE show which will provide a good learning experience for them. Pupils are to report to school in their red T-shirts and khaki shorts or skirts on Sat 11 July 2015 at 2.15pm. More details on the NE show will be provided nearer to the date of the show for the Primary 5 pupils.
3.3 Racial Harmony Day (RHD) Tues 21 July
The school will be commemorating Racial Harmony Day which will be held in conjunction with Hari Raya Concert on Tuesday, 21 July for 2015. This years theme for Racial Harmony is Harmony in Our Hands which signifies the continuous efforts of every Singaporean in celebrating our diversity and embracing an inclusive Singapore. On that day, we hope to inspire all to put our hands to work together so that our future generations can always find hope of a better future here, an inclusive society with a heart, and the best home for ourselves and our families. On Racial Harmony Day, the school has prepared various activities to promote appreciation of different ethnic and cultures. We would like to invite pupils to come to school dressed in their traditional costumes and school shoes on RHD on Tues 21 July. Costumes should be at least knee length and no head-gears are allowed. Pupils can also come to school in their school uniform.

3.4 Home-based Learning, Fri 24 July The school will be conducting Home-Based Learning (HBL) on Fri 24 July. All pupils need not report to school on this day (unless otherwise informed by their teachers). The school will be implementing Home-based Learning for pupils on this day. Pupils will access their online learning and assignments on the school's Learning Management System (LMS), AsknLearn portal. The assignments will cover all four subjects, English Language, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue Languages. Teachers will be available at specified time slots for consultation on that day. A schedule will be given to your child/ward nearer the date. For pupils without access to computing devices and/or internet connection, they can request for soft copies of the assignments or return to school to use the computer labs.
3.5 YN80 Gala Dinner cum Launch of i-Gallery at YNPS, Sat 25 July We are truly excited to share with you the joy of celebrating Yu Nengs 80th Anniversary this year Our Heritage, Our Future. In conjunction with Yu Nengs 80th Anniversary celebrations, we commemorate 80 years of our heritage and will be launching our very own i-Gallery which records the milestones of our school growth along with our nation building. A special invitation was extended to all our parents and stakeholders to join us in our YN80 Gala Dinner last semester. We are heartened to receive favourable responses from many of you. The dinner tickets for YN80 Gala Dinner have been fully sold out. Thank you for your generous support for this fund-raising event in aid of our school improvement fund. Our YN80 Gala Dinner is held on Sat 25 July 2015 at 6 pm at Yu Neng Primary School Hall. Our Guest-of-Honour is Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education, Ministry of Education. All dinner guests are requested to come early to view the i-Gallery and be seated for dinner by 6.30pm. We look forward to seeing you at this grand homecoming.
3.6 Youth Celebrate! Sun 26 July
80 P4 pupils and 4 staffs will be attending this special event, jointly organised by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, that showcases the Singapores youth achievement in sports, uniformed groups and performing arts. Youth Celebrate! also marks the official opening of the Singapore Sports Hub. At this milestone occasion, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be sealing a Time Capsule that will contain a repository of meaningful items that are symbolic of our nations sporting aspirations.
3.7 Good Morning, Cher Public Exhibition In celebration of MOEs journey over the past 50 years, MOE has organised a showcase of 50 years of classroom memories at various venues. We encourage parents to bring your child to the following venues (admission is free) to relive what is was like in school in the 60s and make new discoveries about school today through interactive displays, mini games and artefacts from the past!

4. IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE 4.1 School Security
Thanks to your strong support and help, Yu Neng has transited into a single-session school this year. In view of providing a safe and conducive learning environment for our pupils, the school has reviewed how we could improve the school security and school dismissal processes and we would like to appeal to all parents in supporting and cooperating with our staff for the following arrangement.
1) If you would like to hand your child items like lunch/sports equipment, please instruct your child/ward to meet you at the following gate.

2) If you would like to buy stationery/sch uniform for your child/ward, please register at the school security post and obtain a temporary visitors pass before proceeding to the school bookshop or school uniform shop. Please take note of the following opening hours.
3) For parents who have an official appointment with a member of the school staff, please report to the general office and obtain a temporary visitors pass.
If you receive a temporary visitors pass, you must wear it prominently at all times when you are in the school premises. We hope to implement the above school safety measures with effect from Mon 13 July 2015. With your support and understanding, we will able to establish and maintain a safe and conducive environment for our pupils to learn and grow in.
4.2 Hari Raya Puasa Hari Raya Puasa falls on Fri 17 July 2015 this year. As it is a public holiday, pupils need not come to school on that day. Lesson will resume on Mon 20 July 2015. On Thurs 16 July, all Muslim pupils will be dismissal at 10.40am. Parents should ensure that the necessary transport arrangements are made. Please also note that there will be no CCA/remedial/supplementary lesson on 16 July (unless otherwise informed by their teachers). We would like to take this opportunity to wish all Muslim parents, pupils and staff Selamat Hari Raya Puasa Aidilfitri. May this festive season be a joyous and meaningful one for you and your loved ones.

4.3 Youth Day Holiday Youth Day falls on Sunday 26 July this year. Pupils need not come to school on Mon 27 July as it is a designated school holiday. School will resume on Tues 28 July.
4.4 Pay-it-Forward (PIF) SG Bear Project Thank you for all the contribution of the bear cut-outs in support of the project. We are still in need of more bear cut-outs. If you do have more pieces of cloth for upcycling or have not have the chance to submit your pieces, do submit them to your child's form teacher latest by Fri 10 July so that preparation can be carried out ahead of PIF project on Mon 3 August. With your support, we are confident that the project will be a meaningful and enjoyable experience for all as part of the YN80 and SG50 celebrations. 5.
