Importance of Food• Food can cause as well as health and Disease• Food in health is choice & in disease compulsory • Tasty Foods helps disease to grow rather than body • Healthy mind takes healthy foods• Scientifically best foods also have no action on bad

mind – it helps the disease than human• Foods – does they improve health or disease?• Scientific foods taste is questionable• How food prevent the disease?• Present situation of Ayurveda is – hanging between

holistic approaches and scientific methods • The difference is – as Ayurvedic Ghee – from curd is

healthy and scientifically developed diary raw milk Ghee is unhealthy

Page 3: Ksr kubfoods-hyd2

• Ayurveda is considered by the western community as “Food” and marketed with a label of “Food Items”

• Normally food is in a huge quantity and for development of body

• Where in the Medicine is always in a small quantity and restores the health from disease

• A question here is –“whether the Ayurveda is a “Medicine” or “Food”

• If, the Ayurveda is food –why the Food faculties like NIN doesn’t involve Ayurveda graduates –

• If it is a medicine – why the dignity of equality is not provided by the Government

• The questions are endless and without answers – remains as questions

Introduction

Page 4: Ksr kubfoods-hyd2

My topic –Genitourinary Tract Foods in Ayurveda

• Ayurveda is based on 3 Dosha – 7 Dhatu and 3 Mala

• Genitourinary tract includes –– 1 Dhatu i.e. Sukra/ Artava (progeny tissue) &– 1 Mala i.e. Mootra (urine) – Where three humors – Vata, Pitta and Kapha

generates the pathology with etiology of Food, Regimen and Seasonal effects

– In which Kapha makes more diseases here in GUT

Page 5: Ksr kubfoods-hyd2

What is common?

• The common is water –• The water in the body eliminated as

Urine is the liquid part of the food i.e. Rasa-Ambu of Udaka

• The products of GUT are urine and semen are under the influence of Kapha and Udaka

Page 6: Ksr kubfoods-hyd2

Disorders of GUT• As the elements involved are two –• Diseases are of –

– Sukra/ Artava (progeny tissue) disorders &– Mootra (urine) disorders

• As a concept of Ayurveda not only uses the Food to build and rejuvenate the Tissue

• Even by-product or waste of food is also used as Medicine and also building the tissue

• The bulk food in many forms becomes as buffers to alter the medicine real effect or fortify

• Many foods of a province is noticed as medicine in different province

• Thus, it is necessary to identify the materials and promote as food medicines

• The best example is Garcinia is used to get sour taste in food is a best medicine for GUT inflammation and Obesity

Page 7: Ksr kubfoods-hyd2

“Let Food be Your Medicine”• How come we make the Food as medicine-

– To eat less as medicine or– “Focus on Prevention” through food

• Ayurveda cares about the health through foods and supplements also

• Ayurveda classics deal exclusive chapters on nourishment and nutritive values of the food

• They describe even recipes that are useful in Disease

• In disease pathogenic Channel (Srotas), selective Iso-bio-available foods are scheduled as ‘pathya’ or diet

• All the Pathya are not Medicines but they become buffers of medicines

Page 8: Ksr kubfoods-hyd2

Pathya - Nutriceutical• Pathya is a nutritive curative diet preparation could

be termed as Nutriceuticals. • In Ayurveda the term Nutriceuticals is explained as

‘Pathya’ and ‘Rasayana’ is better. • Still it is necessary to differentiate and demarcate

these terms of use. • Nutriceutical is defined as “A food or part of food or

nutrient that provides health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of a disease.”

• Or - “Art and science of preparing and dispensing food as medicine in the practice of healing” ie. Pathya in Ayurveda.

Page 9: Ksr kubfoods-hyd2

• Nutriceuticals termed as – Non prescription products - launched by Stephen De-Felici in the 1980s.

• Ayurveda described such non prescription foods embedded in management and therapeutics many centuries ago.

• Nutraceuticals are from a plant, animal and microbial ingredients like in Ayurveda

• Ayurveda provide a wide range of Peya, Vilepi, Manda, etc. foods

• It is manipulating the diet to get maximum level of active components to treat the disease

Conclusion • There are many foods mentioned many centuries

ago in Ayurveda require patenting as a part food therapeutics

• All these food recipes (Mashandika) are even though practiced by the practitioners doesn’t have a proper recordings

• It is the “Right Time” for making a step towards successful “Ayurveda Food Industry” to establish.

• Clinical studies are made to obtain a clear differentiation of Ayurveda medicine and Food medicine.

• So, "Let your food be your medicine and not to make medicine be your food"
