“Aarohan‟14”, the Annual Science Fest, was organized by Amrita School of
Engineering, Bengaluru, for high school and intermediate students. 30th and 31st October, 2014
saw the sixth edition of the fest providing a scientific exposure to the students. Around 20
schools enrolled with a turnout of more than 700 participants. Every year, with the increase in
the number of participants, there is an inundating surge of innovative ideas. National Public
School (Koramangala); Amrita Vidyalayam (Bengaluru, Mysore, Mangalore, Davangere);
Presidency School (East, South); Delhi Public School (East, South) etc., were among the
schools that participated.
Aarohan‟14 was declared open by Director Br. Dhanraj. There were various events like
Twisterz, Planets of Earth, Avishkara, Maths & Science Olympiad, Mock Tail that provided an
enthralling experience to students. Laser Tag and Treasure Hunt were popular among young
minds. Each event was drafted in a challenging way to bring out the best from the participants.
The participants in turn were fully geared up to meet the various challenges and eventually
made the event a grand success.
Project Exhibition was the scientific and creative floor for the students to propose their
innovative ideas in the form of exhibits. Presidency School, Bengaluru South, secured the 1st
place for creating a self sustainable model called „Smart City‟.
The winners and runners up of all the events were awarded with certificates and cash
prizes worth INR 4 lakhs. The rolling trophy was bagged by National Public School,
Koramangla, Bengaluru for the second consecutive year.
Energetic participation by the students proved, yet again, that Aarohan is a platform to
explore various fields of science and technology for the young minds and will continue for years
to come.

Seminar - Internet of Things
A seminar on Internet of Things (IoT) was conducted on 17th September, 2014 at
Krishna Hall. Over the last decade, Internet has made significant impact on our economy and
society by bringing in remarkable communication and networking infrastructure. To follow up
this trend, Internet of Things (IoT) emerged and served as a platform where the physical world
meets the web. The seminar was conducted by Mr. Pranav Girish of second year CSE student.
He put across the essence of IoT in layman‟s terms with the help of various examples. The
growth of IoT has not only facilitated new businesses but has also expanded the usage of cloud
storage and servers as a reality search engine. Pranav also emphasized on how we can use IoT as
a medium to access remote day-to-day appliances. However, the expansion of Internet of Things
also includes privacy issues and other concerns regarding the authenticity of the user. The
various security concerns associated with the same was also discussed at length. The hour long
session ended well in time, allowing the host to interact with the audience and answer their

Organized the following events during Aarohan‟14 held on 30th & 31st October, 2014:
Quantum Quest (Laser Tag) - This event was a great success with a participation of
65 teams with each team consisting of 3 students. The concept of this game attracted
many school children, who were engrossed in this gaming event. They were
introduced to the fun world of electronics. Many students showcased an urge to learn
about the circuits and its working principle. We received positive feedback, with
wishes for even more next year. The event was well organized and proceeded
systematically by the efforts put on by ECIF and SANKHYA.
Twisters - This even saw 51 teams (juniors and seniors), with a maximum of 3
students per team participating in the first round of this fun, yet informative event.
The participants were expected to move forward through the tiles numbered from 1
to 30 by correctly answering the questions corresponding to the tile numbers within
the given time limit. The students performed well despite the music and
simultaneous game-play that was designed to distract them. Out of the 51 teams, 6
teams, 3 from each category were selected on the basis of accuracy and time-taken to
answer the questions. The teams were allowed to compete with stricter rules such as
negative evaluation and tougher time constraints in their own respective categories.
Out of the three teams in each category, the team with highest accuracy and the
highest number of tiles conquered was pronounced winner and the second best team
was awarded the runners up. The students from NPS, Koramangala, Bengaluru, were
victorious in both the categories. However, students from DPS East were very
competitive and emerged as runners-up in Juniors‟ category. The students were
enthusiastic and were exposed to a very intellectual and entertaining event.
