Glitz and glamour,pomp and show, gritand glory,awards and
accolades — GodrejGoldilocks SIIMA 2016, in itsfifth edition, had all the trap-pings of a perfect South Indi-an potboiler. If the red carpetshenanigans of reigning di-vas of tinsel town set the tem-peratures soaring, the highoctane naach-gaana and dra-ma on stage kept the enter-
tainment quo-tient at an all-time high.And of course,for all those whowalked away withawards in hand,there was a happyending too.
Held at the swankySuntec Convention andExhibition Centre, Sin-gapore,the two-day ex-travaganza that cele-brates South Indian
cinema and recognises talentfrom Tamil, Telugu, Malay-alam and Kannada film in-dustries got off to a glitzystart on Day 1 with Bhal-laladeva Rana Daggubati wel-coming Singapore’s South In-dian diaspora in true filmyfashion, complete with apunch dialogue. Taking thebaton from him were hostsfor the evening, LakshmiManchu and Ali, who keptthe audience in splits withtheir easy banter through thefour-hour show. Sandal-wood’s Akul brought in afresh dash of humour withhis brilliant emceeing as
well. The
first evening, whichawarded the best talent ofTelugu and Kannadafilms of 2015, sawa stellar attendancefrom stars across theSouth, including matineeidols Chiranjeevi, Kushboo,Vikram, Suhasini, Rana,Allu Arjun, Puneeth Rajku-mar, Nithya Menen, andmore. Huma Qureshi’s pres-ence added some Bollywoodglam to the do, while KabirBedi made an appearance tomark his foray into Southcinema. The stalwartscheered on as veteran play-back singer S Janaki was ho-noured with a LifetimeAchievement award.
Brilliantly choreographedsong and dance acts byPragya Jaiswal, PranithaSubhash and Rachita Ramadded a filmy tadka to theshow. The highlight howeverwas Sayeesha’s tribute to thebig four of Telugu cinema —Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna,
Venkatesh and Balakrishna.In what was her first everstage performance,she shim-mied to hit numbers of allfour stalwarts and also pulledoff Chiru’s iconic “VeenaStep” like no one else did be-fore. Devi Sri Prasad im-pressed with a high-energygig, which had the wholecrowd on its feet.
Day 2, which was dedicat-ed to Tamil and Malayalamfilms, saw the auditoriumpacked to capacity with Sin-gapore’s milling Tamil-speaking population. Andkeeping them entertainedwere a bunch of funny menand lovely women — Shiva,Sateesh,Ranjini Haridas andDhanya.

Hansika,Amyra Dastur, AishwaryaRajesh and Huma Qureshiput up some sexy perform-ances. Kerala’s Neeraj Mad-hav was the only male actor toperform; and he set some pret-ty high standards. The rock-star of the evening thoughwas Anirudh. He made asmashing entry, completewith exotic dancers and drag-ons, and had the crowd on itsfeet for 10 whole minutes; thattoo at 2:30 in the morning. Itwas a fitting finale to thegrand filmy weekend.
