2012 - 2015Tracking Our Achievements
KKL-JNF From Conference
to Conference
In the flow of often turbulent events, KKL-JNF
continues to identify Israel's national goals and
consistently strives to fulfill them. Israel's image in the
world media has posed a major challenge to the work
of our marketing colleagues worldwide. Despite this,
and keeping up with ever changing marketing trends,
our partners in promoting KKL-JNF projects have
proved themselves resourceful fundraisers, as
reflected in the results.
Over the last three years, the generous support of
friends and partners in Israel and throughout the world
has enabled KKL-JNF to implement 400 projects, each
one making a difference to Israel's inhabitants and
shaping its future. By nature KKL-JNF's projects are
interrelated; they embrace almost every aspect of
Israel's society and extend to every geographic
location. Therefore, each main category will have
subtopics and every project will reverberate on many
levels. KKL-JNF forestry activities ensure that Israel’s forests
thrive. The vital services provided by forests help
sustain the environment and contribute to people’s
quality of life. In the past three years,1,262,800 Trees,
covering an area of 960 hectares (2,400 acres), were
donated to the country’s forests, Israel’s green lungs. During this period of time, 8,750 Recognition Signs
were installed and unveiled; 310 Delegations and 850
Ceremonies were held in Israel; and the Books of
Honor were themselves honored with 10,000 new
entries. These numbers, each one and collectively, are
expressions of the strong connection between people
from around the globe and KKL-JNF. .
According to the percentage of donations by category
for 2012 until present, donors showed strong support
for Israel by funding Community Development projects
and Tourism initiatives that help generate income for
per iphery communit ies . Where community
development is concerned, the projects for
disadvantaged populations stand out. They include
landscaping around residential homes and educational
facilities for people with special needs. Funding for
protective security plantings and multi-functional,
security-agricultural-tourism roads in the southern
region are included in this category. As well, urban
parks that transform cityscapes and serve as green lungs
for heavily populated regions were well supported.
Donors know the value of suitably landscaped
environments for well-being and the people who enjoy
these green surroundings are truly appreciative. These
projects also increase property value, impacting
positively on whole communities, particularly those in
the periphery. Landscaping extends to IDF bases located
throughout the country. KKL-JNF donors have provided
soldiers with pleasant, shaded green visiting areas
where they can meet with family.

Donated Projects
The same projects that improve the quality of Israel's
Environment also serve to benefit developing
countries, through KKL-JNF's international cooperation
ventures, in which its expertise in water management
and climate change adaptation is shared. The
environmental projects that received substantial
donations were those concerning wildfire prevention,
forest rehabilitation and renewal and the rehabilitation
of stream banks. In addition, the development of forest
picnic and leisure sites, scenic trails and scenic
lookouts—key core KKL-JNF projects for the benefit of
Israel's environment and people—have continued to
receive support. In the interest of Israel's social sustainability many
donors contributed to projects promoting coexistence,
cultivating mutual understanding among the country's
cultural groups.
An Education initiative that has recently taken off is the
unique Green Leadership Classrooms program,
implemented in hundreds of open classroom facilities in
school yards, where children enjoy an integrative
approach to environmental, Zionist and heritage
studies. This was one of many educational projects
made possible by donor support.
Our donors recognize the importance of the Research in
which KKL-JNF is involved, whose promising projects in
process will eventually lead to breakthrough headlines.
Included are cooperative ventures with academic
institutions in Israel and abroad in the areas of climate
change, developing methods of planting and
conservation of dryland forests. Supporting R&D
stations ensures sustainable agriculture and cutting-
edge developments for the benefit of farmers in the
periphery. Through International Cooperation, KKL-JNF
research in renewable energy and food security is
helping developing nations. KKL-JNF's Water projects
are integral components of environment and research.
Water from KKL-JNF’s flood and recycled water
reservoirs irrigates agriculture, saving precious potable
water for domestic use.
Operation Protective Edge (July-August 2014),
galvanized all fundraising activities in support of the
people in the south. Upon the launch of the operation,
KKL-JNF offices worldwide responded immediately,
initiating innovative emergency campaigns, raising
funds for life-saving projects for the people in the line of
fire, respite programs for children and morale boosting
projects for soldiers. In the heat of the conflict, KKL-JNF
solidarity missions from abroad visited Gaza border
communities.
KKL-JNF forest picnic and leisure sites along the Gaza
envelope became mobilization points for IDF ground
troops before moving into Gaza and the KKL-JNF border
roads served the army's transportation needs. After
fifty days of war, KKL-JNF began repairing and
rehabilitating the agriculture and security roads, fields,
groves and forests that had been heavily damaged.
Biofilters for urban runoff and constructed wetlands,
among others, promise to improve Israel's water
economy.

In response to the urgent needs presented to KKL-JNF senior
management by mayors and heads of councils from the south
during Operation Protective Edge, KKL-JNF in Israel and its
Friends worldwide made the following projects possible:
209 bomb shelters installed at schools, in public areas and open
spaces, providing safety and enabling the residents of the
southern regional and local councils to continue a semblance of
daily life.
2,500 children and their families went north for respite and
leisure in the open air, far from the line of fire. KKL-JNF Field &
Forest Education Centers at Lavi and Tsipori, among others,
provided activities led by the KKL-JNF Youth and Education
Division. 10,000 children confined to bomb shelters were provided with
fun and educational activities led by KKL-JNF Youth and
Education Division counselors.
2,000 hygiene kits were sent to soldiers in combat.
KKL-JNF with the People on the Front Line
In addition to those directly involved with Operation Protective
Edge, KKL-JNF campaigns worldwide were held for long term
projects that affect the people on the Gaza border and western
Negev. These included: Green landscaping and the
development of entranceways at Kfar Aza and sixteen
additional communities in the northwestern Negev; a new
neighborhood and security road in Netiv HaAsara; landscape
development of communities such as Talme Yosef;
environmental landscape development at elementary schools
and academic institutions, such as the amphitheater at the
Sapir Academic College in Sderot and the Da'at School at
Kibbutz Sa'ad; landscape development at the Ezra Le'Marpeh
Medical Rehabilitation Center in Sderot and the ALEH Negev
Rehabilitative Village near Ofakim; development of forests and
parks, including two new parks for Sderot, projects for tourism
at Kibbutz Zikim, Nahal Oz, Nir Moshe, Gilat, and Kibbutz En
Hashlosha; repairing border security roads; landscaping
