1. Critical places in the wizarding world
A.Hogwarts
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the British
wizarding school, located in the Scottish Highlands. It
accepts magical students from Great Britain and Ireland
for enrolment. It is a state-owned school funded by the
Ministry of Magic.
The precise location of the school can never be uncovered
because it was rendered Unplottable. To Muggles, the
school looks like an old abandoned castle. Similarly, most
wizarding schools locations are protected in order to
prevent their ways of teaching being revealed, as well as protect the students and schools
themselves from any harm.
Established around the 10th century, Hogwarts is considered to be one of the finest magical
institutions in the Wizarding World, though other notable schools included Beauxbatons
Academy of Magic in France, the Durmstrang Institute in Scandinavia, and Ilvermorny School
of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the United States. Children with magical abilities are enrolled
at birth, and acceptance is confirmed by owl post at age eleven. However, if the child in
question is a Muggle-born, a staff member from the school visits with the child and his or her
family in order to inform them of their magical heritage and the existence of the Wizarding
world.
The school's motto is Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus (Draco Dormiens Nvnqvam
Titillandvs), which, translated from Latin, means "Never tickle a sleeping dragon".

Description:
Hogwarts School, located somewhere in the Highlands of Scotland, consists of the large
Hogwarts Castle and extensive school grounds surrounding it, which include sloping lawns,
flowerbeds, vegetable patches, as well as a loch (called the Black Lake), a large dense forest
(called the Forbidden Forest), several greenhouses and other outbuildings, and a full-size
Quidditch Pitch. One of the castle's towers holds an owlery, which houses all the owls owned
by the school and by students.
The castle is set upon huge rocks above a
magnificent lake, known as the Great Lake. Its
three highest towers are the Astronomy,
Ravenclaw, and Gryffindor Towers. The castle's
142 staircases are known to change position.
The castle is known for its many updates and
changes in layout throughout the years, such as
self-regeneration after the Battle of Hogwarts. It
should be noted that some rooms in the school
tend to "move around," as do the steps on the Grand Staircase. Albus Dumbledore once
noted that even he did not know all of Hogwarts' secrets. The castle has been around for
centuries, and consequently has a long history of ancient magic.
The school has numerous charms and spells on and around it that make it impossible for a
Muggle to see it as the school; rather, they see only ruins and several warnings of danger.
Witches and wizards cannot Apparate or Disapparate in Hogwarts grounds, except for when
the Headmaster lifts the enchantment, whether only in certain areas or for the entire
campus, so as to make the school less vulnerable when it serves the headmaster to allow
Apparition. Electricity and electronic devices are not found at Hogwarts. Due to the high
levels of magic, Muggle substitutes for magic, such as computers, radar and electricity, "go
haywire" around Hogwarts. Radios, however, are an exception as they are not powered by
electricity, but by magic.

School spirit:
"And be warned: thievery is not tolerated at Hogwarts."
—Hogwarts' rules
Hogwarts' motto is: "Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus". The translation is: Never tickle a
sleeping dragon. Quidditch is possibly the most popular sport at the school, with most of the
student body turning out to watch each match. Hogwarts also has a Frog Choir which sings
at special occasions.
The blazon of the Hogwarts Coat of Arms clockwise from top left: the Gryffindor lion, the
Slytherin serpent, the Ravenclaw eagle, and the Hufflepuff badger, all circling the letter 'H'.
The motto, "draco dormiens nunquam titillandus" to be carried in an escroll beneath the
shield. The way that the house mascots are arranged makes the centre line divide the
houses with warm colours and mammal mascots from the houses with cold colours and
saurian mascots.
Houses:

2) Hogsmeade
Hogsmeade Village, or simply called Hogsmeade, is the only all-wizarding village in
Britain. It was founded by Hengist of Woodcrod. Since before 1714 (when the 1714 Edict was
passed), Hograwts third years and above have been permitted weekend trips into the village.
Mainly, students frequent the High Street in the village which contains the named specialty
shops and pubs such as Zonko’s Joke Shop and Houneydukes. Otherwise, they wander on to
observe the infamous Shrieking Shack.
Hogsmeade is a picturesque little village of cottages and shops, with enchanted candles
hanging in the trees during the holidays. It is also near the location of the train station used
by the Hogwarts Express.
3) The Forbidden Forest
The Forbidden Forest, also known as the Dark Forest, borders the edges of the
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry grounds.
The forest is a very old place that holds many secrets and houses many creatures, some dark
and dangerous, others friendly. The trees in the forest are considered ancient, they are
dense and rough looking from years of exposure to the elements.
As the forest's name suggests, it is strictly off limits to students — except in the case
of detention, or Care of Magical Creatures lessons that occasionally take place there. Of
course, with the various dangerous creatures living in the Forest, few students would even
want to venture into it. Black flowers are known to grow in the forest.
-7-
Described by Professor Silvanus Kettleburn as 'massive', the forest is thick with trees, as well
as undergrowth such as knotgrass and thorns but there are paths, brooks, and some
clearings. Off the path the way is almost impassable, although people have moved through it
and creatures as large as Acromantulas and a Ford Anglia have managed to get around.
It is hard to navigate the Forest at night, as there are tree roots and stumps that are barely
visible in near blackness. Also clothes were known to snag on low-slung branches and
brambles. The forest is home to a wide and strange assortment of creatures. Anything wild
and dangerous that needs a place to live is put there. There are areas around the edges of
the forest that are part of the Hogwarts grounds, but which are out of sight of the castle.
Hagrid set up a paddock for Hippogriffs in an area like this and the dragons which had been
brought in for the first task were confined here.
The hut of Gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid is located at the edge of the Forbidden Forest.
4) Azkaban:
"They don't need walls and water to keep the prisoners in, not when they're trapped
inside their own heads, incapable of a single cheerful thought. Most go mad within weeks."
—Description of Azkaban prison
Azkaban is a fortress on an island in the middle
of the North sea. It serves the magical community of
Great Britain as a prison for convicted criminals.
Azkaban was built in the 15th century and it has been
in use as a detention facility since 1718. Using certain
Charms, Azkaban is hidden from the Muggle world, and
is Unplottable.

B) Characters in the wizarding world
1) Harry Potter
Harry James Potter was an English half-blood wizard, one of the most famous wizards of modern times. He was the only child and son of James and Lily Potter, both members of the original Order of the Phoenix. Harry's birth was overshadowed by a prophecy, naming either himself or Neville Longbottom as the one with the power to vanquish Lord Voldemort. After half of the prophecy was reported to Voldemort courtesy of Severus Snape, Harry was chosen as the target due to his many similarities with the Dark Lord. This caused the Potter family to go into hiding. Voldemort made his first vain attempt to circumvent the prophecy when Harry was a year and three months old. During this attempt, he murdered Harry's parents as they tried to protect him, but this unsuccessful attempt to kill Harry led to Voldemort's first downfall. This downfall marked the end of the First Wizarding War, and to Harry henceforth being known as the "Boy Who Lived.”
2) Hermione Granger
Hermione Jean Granger was an English
muggle-witch born to Mr and Mrs Granger. At the
age of eleven she learned that she was a witch,
and had been accepted into Hogwarts School of
Witchcraft and Wizardry. She began attending
Hogwarts in 1991 and was Sorted into Gryffindor
House. Hermione possessed a brilliant academic
mind and proved to be a gifted student in almost
every subject that she studied.
Hermione first met Harry Potter and Ron Weasley
aboard the Hogwarts Express, who found her
unfriendly and somewhat of an "insufferable
know-it- all", an impression reinforced for her
eagerness to please the professors and her
constant correct answers. She played a crucial role
in protecting Harry and the prosperity of the
Wizarding World.
-10-
3) Ron Weasley
Ron Weasley was an English pure-blood wizard,
the sixth and youngest son of Arthur and Molly
Weasley. He was also the younger brother of Bill,
Charlie, Percy, Fred, George and the elder brother of
Ginny. Ron and his brothers and sister lived at the
Burrow, on the outskirts of Ottery Street Catchpole.
Ron began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft
and Wizardry in 1991 and was Sorted into Gryffindor
House. Together, they faced many challenges during
their adolescence, including keeping the Philosopher’s
Stone from Professor Quirrel, rescuing Ginny from the
Basilisk of theChamber of Secrets, saving Harry's
godfather Sirius Black from the Dementors of Azkaban,
guiding Harry throughout the Triwizard Tournament,
forming Dumbledore’s Army and fighting in numerous
battles of the second Wizarding War.
4) Dumbledore
Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian
Dumbledore, was an English half blood wizard, who
was the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, later
the Transfiguration Professor, and later Headmaster of
Hogwarts. He was a Muggle-supporting wizard
considered to have been the greatest wizard of modern
times, perhaps of all time.
"Albus Dumbledore was never proud or vain; he could
find something to value in anyone, however apparently
insignificant or wretched, and I believe that his early
losses endowed him with great humanity and
sympathy. I shall miss his friendship more than I can
say, but my loss is as nothing compared to the
Wizarding world’s. That he was the most inspiring and
the best loved of all Hogwarts headmasters cannot be in
question. He died as he lived: working always for the
greater good and, to his last hour, as willing to stretch
out a hand to a small boy with dragon pox as he was on the day that I met him."
-11-
5) Minerva McGonagall
Professor Minerva McGonagall,
was a Scottish half-blood witch, the only
daughter of Muggle Robert McGonagall
and witch Isobel Ross. She was sorted
into Gryffindor House (but it took the
sorting hat five and a half minutes to
decide if she was Gryffindor or
Ravenclaw, which made her a Hatstall)
After her education, Minerva worked for
two years at the Ministry of Magic and
later returned to Hogwarts, where she
became the Head of Gryffindor House,
Transfiguration Professor and
concurrently, at differing times, Deputy
Headmistress and Headmistress of
Hogwarts.
McGonagall was also a member of the
Order of the Phoenix. In 1995, she
opposed Dolores Umbridge, the High
Inquisitor of Hogwarts. She also
protected the students from Alecto and
Amycus Carrow from 1997 until 1998, and as part of this resistance movement, fought in
several battles of both wars, including the Battle of the Astronomy Tower and the Battle of
Hogwarts (where she led the resistance against Lord Voldemort).
She was also the one who confronted Severus Snape right before the Battle of Hogwarts,
resulting in him fleeing away from the school.
She survived the Second Wizarding War and continued her job as Headmistress, a title she
still held as of Albus Potter's time at Hogwarts.
6) Severus Snape
Professor Severus Snape was an English half-blood wizard serving as Potions Master,
Defence Against the Dark Art professor, and Headmaster of Hogwarts as well as a member
of the Order of the Phoenix and a Death Eater. His double life played an extremely important
role in both of the Wizarding Wars against Voldemort.
-12-
The relationship between Dumbledore and
Snape would be one of an unusually strong
loyalty, so much so that Snape agreed to kill
Dumbledore upon the latter's own request.
Before Dumbledore's death, Snape
promised to protect the students of
Hogwarts from the Death Eaters, who
would inevitably take control of the magic
as well as the school. Snape later
participated in the Battle of Hogwarts but
was murdered by Lord Voldemort.
7) Dolores Umbridge
Madam Dolores
Jane Umbridge was a
British Half-blood witch
and Ministry of Magic
bureaucrat who served as
Senior Undersecretary to
the Ministry of Magic
under Ministers Cornelius
Fudge, Rufus Scrimgeour,
and Pius Thicknesse.
In 1995 by order of the
Ministry, she was installed
as Defence Against the
Dark Arts Professor at
Hogwarts, and then later Hogwarts High Inquisitor and Headmistress of Hogwarts School of
Witchcraft and Wizardry, after Professor Albus Dumbledore had been fired. In all three of
these positions at Hogwarts she had enormous power over the students, teachers, and the
curriculum, which she wielded despotically. Her time at Hogwarts was characterized by
cruelty and abusive punishments against students, and because of her interfering and
condescending ways, she was widely despised by most students and teachers alike.
-13-
8) Cornelius Fudge
Minister Cornelius Oswald Fudge, was a British
wizard who was the Minister of Magic from 1990-1996.
He thus had complete control of the Ministry of Magic,
the main governing body of the British Wizarding World.
In Fudge's early days as Minister, it was said that he was
not very self-confident, and constantly sent letters to
Albus Dumbledore, asking for advice.
9) Barty Crouch Junior
Bartemius "Barty" Crouch Junior was a pure-blood
wizard and the son of Bartemius Crouch Senior. He joined
Lord Voldemort to become a Death Eater in his teens. He
was the first known escapee of Azkaban prison in its
almost 300 year history.
10) Lord Voldemort
Lord Voldemort (formerly known as Tom Marvolo
Riddle) or alternatively as You-Know-Who, He-Who-Must-Not-
Be-Named, or the Dark Lord, was an English half-blood wizard
considered to have been the most powerful and dangerous
Dark Wizard of all time. He was amongst the greatest wizards
have ever lived, often considered to be the second most
powerful wizard in history, his only superior being Albus
Dumbledore.
-14-
11) Bellatrix Lestrange
Bellatrix Lestrange was an English pure-blood Dark
witch, the eldest daughter of Cygnus and Druella Black
and elder sister of Andromeda Tonks and Narcissa Malfoy.
She was a member of the House of Black, an old wizarding
family and one of the Sacred Twenty Eight. Bellatrix
started her education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft
and Wizardry in 1962 and was sorted into Slytherin.
After graduating from Hogwarts she became a Death
Eater. She was fanatically loyal to Lord Voldemort and was
among the most dangerous and sadistic of his followers.
12) Draco Malfoy
Draco Lucius Malfoy was a pure-blood wizard and the only son of
Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. The son of a Death Eater, Draco was raised to
strongly believe in the importance of blood purity. He attended Hogwarts
School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1991-1998 and was sorted into
Slytherin House. During his years at Hogwarts, he became friends with
Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Pansy Parkinson, and other fellow
Slytherins, but he quickly developed a rivalry with Harry Potter.
He was made a prefect of his house and was a member of the Inquısıtoral
Squad during his fifth year, at the end of which his father was imprisoned
in Azkaban following the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. Lord
Voldemort charged Draco with making up for Lucius's failure, and he
became a Death Eater at age sixteen, but was quickly disillusioned with
the lifestyle.
-15-
13) Lucius Malfoy
Lucius Malfoy was a British pure-blood wizard,
and son of Abraxas Malfoy, husband of Narcissa Black,
the father of Draco Malfoy and the grandfather of
Scorpius Malfoy. Lucius was educated at Hogwarts,
where he was made a prefect in Slytherin House. As an
adult, Lucius was an aristocratic wizard and patriarch
of the Malfoy, believing strongly in notions of blood
purity and the superiority of pure-blood wizards. He
joined the Death Eaters, who shared his views on
blood purity, and participated in the First Wizarding
War.
After Lord Voldemort's first defeat, Lucius managed to
avoid imprisonment by claiming that he had been
acting under the Imperius Curse. He and his family
remained members of the social elite, though Lucius
continued to demonstrate his prejudice.
14) Remus Lupin
Professor Remus John Lupin, also known as Moony, was a
half-blood wizard and the only son of Lyall and Hope Lupin. He
was afflicted with lycanthropy during his childhood, as a result
of Fenrir Greybacks's revenge against Lyall. He attended
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1971-1978
and was Sorted into Gryffindor House..
After Hogwarts, Remus and his friends joined the original Order
of the Phoenix and fought in the First Wizarding War. However,
Pettigrew betrayed James and Lily Potter to Lord Voldemort a
week after he was made the couples' Secret Keeper. Thus
Remus had lost all of his closest friends in various ways by the end of the First Wizarding
War. The loss of his friends devastated him, though he and Sirius Black later rekindled their
friendship. Remus taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as Professor of
Defence Against the Dark Arts during the 1993-1994 school year. Remus was regarded by
students to be the best Defence teacher they have had thus far. He was also a professor of
Harry Potter (James' son) whom he taught how to conjure a corporeal Patronus, but
resigned after Severus Snape revealed to the public that Remus was a werewolf.
-16-
15) Sirius Black
Sirius Black, also known as Padfoot or Snuffles was an
English pure- blood wizard, the older son of Orion and Walburga
Black, and the brother of Regulus Black. Although he was the
heir of the House of Black, Sirius disagreed with his family's
belief in blood purity and defied tradition when he was Sorted
into Gryffindor House instead of Slytherin at Hogwarts. As Sirius'
relationship with his relatives deteriorated, he gained lifelong
friendship in James Potter and Remus Lupin. Peter Pettigrew was
a friend as well for ten years. The four friends, also known as the
Marauders, joined the Order of the Phoenix to fight against Lord
Voldemort and his Death Eaters during the First Wizarding War.
When Pettigrew betrayed the Potters to Voldemort, Sirius sought to exact revenge on
Pettigrew. However, Pettigrew was able to frame Sirius for his betrayal of the Potters, the
murder of twelve Muggles, and the staged murder of Pettigrew before Sirius could
accomplish this. Sirius was sent to Azkaban, and after twelve years became the only known
person to Escape the prison unassisted by transforming into his Animagus form of a massive
black dog often confused with a "Grim", an omen said to cause death. Sirius exposed
Pettigrew's treachery to his old friend Remus and his godson Harry Potter.
16) Rubeus Hagrid
Professor Rubeus Hagrid was a half-giant half-wizard, son of Mr Hagrid
and the giantess Fridvulfa, and elder half-brother of the giant Grawp. Hagrid
attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1940 and was sorted
into Gryffindor house. In Hagrid's third year, he was framed by Tom Riddle for
the crime of opening the Chamber of Srecrets and using his pet Acromantula to
attack several Muggle-born students and eventually killing one of them Though
Hagrid's wand was snapped and he was expelled, he was trained as gamekeeper
of Hogwarts and allowed to live on the school grounds at the request of Albus
Dumbledore. As a member of both the original and the re-instated Order of the Phoenix,
Hagrid fought in several battles of the First and the Second Wizarding Wars, including the
Battle of Hogwarts in 1998. By 2017, he was still living, and presumably still teaching and
tending to his gamekeeping duties at Hogwarts, inviting Harry's son Albus Severus for tea
when he joined the school as Harry informed him at the station, just as Hagrid had done to
his father, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
-17-
17) Molly Weasley
Molly Weasley was an English pure-blood witch
and matriarch of the Weasley Family after marrying
Arthur Weasley. She was born into the Preset family
and was sister to Fabian and Gideon Prewett,
members of the original Order of the Phoenix.
Molly was a member of the revived Order of the
Phoenix following the return of Lord Voldemort and
participated in the final battle of the Second
Wizarding War. Her actions during this battle caused her to be known as the witch that
defeated and killed the notorious Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange.
18) Peter Pettigrew
Peter Pettigrew, usually referred to as Wormtail or
Scabbers was a wizard and the son of Mr and Mrs Pettigrew. He
began attending Hogwarts in 1971 and was sorted into
Gryffindor House after the Sorting Hat pondered over which
house he belonged in for over five minutes, a true Hatstall.
During his years at Hogwarts, he became one of the Marauders;
he was best friends with Sirius Black, James Potter, and Remus
Lupin, and together they created the Marauder’s Map.
During the First Wizarding War, Peter was a member of the
Order of the Phoenix, but became a spy when he was coerced into joining Lord Voldemort.
He was made Secret-Keeper for the Potters when they went into hiding with the use of the
Fidelius Charm, and betrayed James, his wife Lily, and their son Harry to Lord Voldemort.
After Voldemort's fall, he faked his own eath and framed Sirius for betraying James and Lily,
as well as for his own murder and those of the twelve muggles he killed during his escape.
Peter spent twelve years living in his Animagus form as the Weasley family's pet rat,
Scabbers. However, his identity was exposed by Sirius and Remus in 1994, and Pettigrew,
with nowhere else to go, sought protection in returning to the service of Lord Voldemort,
whom he found in the forests of Albania.
Pettigrew played a key role in Voldemort's rebirth and continued to serve him during the
Second Wizarding World.
-18-
19) Alastor Moody
Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody was a Scottish pure-blood
wizard, considered to be the most famous Auror of all time.
He was a pivotal member of the Order of the Phoenix during
the First and Second Wizarding Wars. Moody served with
distinction during the first conflict, gaining a reputation as a
skillful battler against the Dark Arts and sacrificing an eye, a
leg, and part of his nose during the conflict. As an Auror, he
played a role in the imprisonment of many of the
inhabitants of Azkaban. This activity led to his gaining many
enemies and resulted in his becoming overly-cautious and
paranoid about his security later in life.
In 1994, he agreed to Albus Dumbledore's request to become the new Defence Against the
Dark Arts Professor at Hogwarts, however he was kidnapped just prior to taking up the
position by Barty Crouch Junior, who subsequently disguised himself as Moody as part of a
plan to kidnap Harry Potter on the instructions of Lord Voldemort.
Following his rescue from Barty Crouch, Jr, Moody joined the second Order of the Phoenix
and fought in a number of the Second Wizarding Wars's battles, including the Battle of
Department of Mysteries in 1996, dying during the latter.
20) Neville Longbottom
Neville Longbottom was a pure-blood wizard, the only child and
son of Frank and Alice Longbottom. Neville's parents were well-
respected Aurors and members of the original Order of the Phoenix,
until they were tortured into insanity by Bellatrix and three other Death
Eaters with the Cruciatus Curse when he was about sixteen months old,
leaving Neville to be raised by his grandmother, Augusta Longbottom.
Neville began school at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in
1991 and was sorted into Gryffindor House, along with Harry Potter,
Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley. Throughout his school years, he was mostly a shy,
clumsy, introverted boy who was constantly being told by his grandmother that he was not
good enough or living up to his parents' accomplishments. However, in his later years, he
showed that he possessed great courage and perseverance: he became an important
member of Dumbledore’s Army, an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter with the
goal of helping other students learn spells to attack and defend themselves.
-19-
21)Cedric Diggory
Cedric was a British wizard who was the son of Amos Diggory
and his wife. He started attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft
and Wizardry in 1989, and was sorted into the Hufflepuff House.
During his time at school he was a prefect and captained the
Hufflepuff Quidditch team, playing as Seeker. In his sixth year
Cedric put his name forward to compete in the Triwizard
Tournament.
He was selected as the Hogwarts Triwizard Champion and,
although overshadowed in the press by the entry of Harry Potter,
Cedric enjoyed almost overwhelming support from the student
body, and after the first two tasks, tied with Harry for first place.
Cedric and Harry completed the Third Task together. Both took
hold of the Triwizard Cup, which transported them to the Little
Hangleton graveyard. In the graveyard, Cedric was murdered by Peter Pettigrew with the
Killing Curse, on the order of Lord Voldemort.
During the following duel between Harry and Voldemort, Cedric's echo reappeared during
Priori Incantatem, and helped the echoes of Harry's parents, Bertha Jorkins, and Frank Bryce
hold off Voldemort long enough for him to escape. In 2020, Diggory's participation in the
Triwizard Tournament and subsequent death was the subject of Albus Potter and Scorpius
Malfoy's time-travel antics at the request of Amos. They sought to save Cedric and created
an alternate timeline where Cedric survived and became part of the Death Eaters, because
of the humiliation they caused him when they tried to save his life. Cedric's original and
heroic life and death was later restored.
C) Magical Objects
1) Enchanted Coins
In Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, Hermione Granger creates fake,
enchanted Galleons or as they call it (enchanted coins) that are used for
communication between members of Dumbledore’s Army. Like real Galleons, the
coins have numerals around the edge. On normal Galleons these serial numbers
signify the goblin who cast the coin; on the enchanted Galleons, the numbers represent the
time and date of the next D.A. meeting, and automatically change to match whatever
numbers Harry Potter sets on his coin. Due to the coins being infused with a Protean Charm,
once Harry Potter alters his, every coin changes to suit. The coins grow hot when the
numbers change to alert the members to look at their coins.
-20-
2) Howler
A Howler is a blood-red letter sent to signify extreme anger or to
convey a message very loudly and publicly. When it is opened, the
sender's voice, which has been magically magnified to a deafening
volume, bellows a message at the recipient and then self-destructs
itself by burning. If it is not opened or there is a delay in opening it, the
letter smolders, explodes violently, and shouts the message out even
louder than normal
3) Deluminator (Put-Outer)
A Deluminator is a device invented by Albus Dumbledore that
resembles a cigarette lighter. It is used to remove or absorb (as
well as return) the light from any light source to provide cover to
the user.
4) The Invisibility Cloak
Within the Wizarding World, the invisibility cloak is used to make
the wearer invisible. All are very rare and expensive, and may be
spun from pelts of the Demiguise, magical herbivores that are
found in the Far East. They can also be ordinary cloaks with a
Disillusionment Charm or a Bedazzlement Hex placed on them.
Over time, these cloaks will lose their invisibility ability,
eventually becoming opaque and vulnerable to penetration by various spells. Harry's cloak,
being one of the three Deathly Hallows, is a true cloak of invisibility, and will retain its
invisibility forever. It is also resistant to most simple spells and charms.
-21-
5) The Elder Wand
The Elder Wand, known throughout history as the Deathstick or
the Wand of Destiny, is an extremely powerful wand made of
elder wood with a core of Thestral tail hair. While most wizards
have heard of supposedly invincible wands in wizarding history,
wand experts and seekers after the Deathly Hallows realize that
these are the same wand, reappearing periodically in the hand
of a new owner.
According to the legend, the wand's allegiance can only be won
by killing its previous owner, and therefore its "bloody trail"
had become "splattered across the pages of wizarding history", making it the Hallow most
easily verified to be a real object.
6) The Resurrection Stone:
The Resurrection Stone allows the holder to bring back deceased
loved ones, in a semi-physical form, and communicate with them.
According to the fairy tale concerning the origin of the Deathly
Hallows, using the Resurrection Stone drove the owner to kill
himself because he brought his late fiancée back from the dead, and
she was very unhappy in the real world for she did not belong there.
7) Foe-Glass
A Foe-Glass is a type of Dark Detector. It looks like a mirror, but
instead of a reflection it shows the enemies of its possessor. The
figures appear as "shadows" but become clearer and more visible
as the enemies get closer to the possessor.
"Oh that's my Foe-Glass. See them out there, skulking around? I'm not really in trouble until I
see the whites of their eyes."
-Alastor Moody
-22-
8) The Marauder’s Map
The Marauder's Map is a magical map of Hogwarts created by Remus Lupin,
Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, and James Potter (respectively nicknamed
"Moony", "Wormtail", "Padfoot", and "Prongs") while they were students at
Hogwarts. During this time, they gained extensive knowledge about the school
grounds, such as its various hidden passages, from their frequent night-time
adventures together.
At first glance, the Map is simply a blank piece of parchment; but when the
user points his wand at the Map and says, "I solemnly swear that I am up to no
good", the message "Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs, purveyors
of aids to magical mischief-makers, are proud to present the Marauder's Map,"
and a detailed layout of Hogwarts appears. Saying, "Mischief managed!" while pointing one's
wand on the parchment returns the map to its original blank state. The map displays the
location of everyone within the castle and its grounds, and includes the location of secret
passageways and instructions on how to access them.
9) Probity Probe
A Probity Probe detects spells of concealment and hidden magical objects. The detector
made its first appearance in Order of the Phoenix at the Ministry of Magic as a thin
golden rod. After Voldemort's return, Probes are used as part of the increased
security at Gringotts as well as for scanning the students of Hogwarts for
Dark objects.
10) Secrecy Sensor

D) Magical Creatures
1) Demetor
These creatures are the guards of Azkaban. They feed on
human happiness and can extract souls with their Dementor's
Kiss. They're shaped like humans covered in dark, hooded
cloaks and their skin resembles that of a grey, rotting body.
Though they are blind, they can sense and feed on positive
feelings, draining their victims of happiness.
"Those who entered to investigate refused afterwards to talk
of what they had found inside, but the least frightening part of
it was that the place was infested with dementors."
—J. K. Rowling on the early history of Azkaban
2) Merperson
Merpeople are sentient magical beasts that live underwater. They are found all
over the world. Their customs and habits are mysterious, and, like the centaurs,
were offered the being status but refused in favour of beast, as they did not
want to be placed in a status with Hags and Vampires. Merpeople can breathe
above the water for a time, but it is unclear if they can ever truly leave their
habitat.
3) Goblin
Goblins are skilled metalworkers who run
Gringotts Wizarding Bank. They are short
and have long noses and long, thin fingers.
Their own type of magic is performed
without a wand (similar to House-Elves). As
they are cunning and clever, it can be
dangerous to trust them.
-24-

stature. Pixies like to wreak havoc and are known to seize
humans by the ears.
7) Werewolf
Once a human is infected by lycanthropy, that human
transforms into a deadly wolf every full moon. Werewolves
can infect others with their bites and it involves a painful
transformation. Additionally, their bites can also kill. The
Wolfsbane Potion, invented by Damocles, allows the werewolf
to keep their human mind during transformation. A werewolf
cannot choose whether or not to transform and will no longer
remember who they are and would kill even their best friend
once transforme. Despite this, they are also able to recall everything they have experienced
throughout their transformation upon reverting to their human form.
-25-
8) Mountain Troll
Mountain trolls are the largest and most vicious breed of troll and they
are to be avoided. They are bald with pale-grey skin and can be up to
12 feet tall, weighing over a ton. However, their whiskers can
sometimes be used as wand cores. They are very strong and have
destructive tendencies.
9)Dragon
The giant, winged, fire-breathing
creatures differ in appearance depending
on type. It is known that the heartstring

wilder regions and they are very
dangerous.
10) Giant
A giant is a very large humanoid magical creature which can potentially grow
to approximately twenty five feet tall . they appear to be a large human.
"They're not meant ter live together, giants ... they can't help themselves,
they half kill each other every few weeks."
—Rubeus Hagrid
11) Thestral
These skeletal winged-horses can only be seen by those
who have witnessed death. The thestral can fly and has the power of
invisibility. Although classified as "dangerous" by the Ministry of Magic,
Thestrals can be tamed. A Thestral is also one possible corporeal form of
the Patronus Charm.
-26-
12) Boggart
A Boggart is an amortal shape-shifting non-being that takes on the
form of it's observer's worst fear. Because of their shape-shifting
ability, no one knows what a Boggart looks like when it is alone, as it
changes instantly upon encountering someone. Boggarts would, at
least before the Battle of Hogwarts, very commonly appear as Lord
Voldemort since he represented the worst fear of many wizardkind
13) Centaure
These intelligent half-horse, half-human
creatures tend to keep to themselves,
not caring much about the Wizarding
World. They frequently speak in riddles
and attempt to divine the future from
the movements of the stars and
planets.
14) House Elf
A House-elf (elves) is a magical being which is immensely devoted and loyal
to the one designated as their master.
House-elves serve wizards and witches and are usually found under the
employment of old wizarding families taking residence in elaborate
establishments, like mansions, and must do everything that their masters
command unless they are freed. A house-elf can only be freed when their
master presents them with clothes.
House-elves have their own brand of wandless magic which, despite their small physical size,
is very powerful.
15) Unicorn
The beautiful, pure-white horned horses have
magical powers. The horn, hair and blood all possess
highly magical properties. They are not aggressive,
but should be treated with respect. Unicorns usually
avoid human contact, but have a stronger affinity
with witches rather than wizards.
-27-
16) Phoenix
These faithful, magical birds will burst into flames when their bodies begin to
fail; then they are reborn from the ashes. They tend to have red and gold
feathers and can carry incredibly heavy loads. Additionally, their tears have
healing properties. If phoenixes are domesticated, they are fiercely loyal to
their owners.
"Fascinating creatures, phoenixes. They can carry immensely heavy loads,
their tears have healing powers, and they make highly faithful pets."
—Albus Dumbledore on the nature of Phoenixes
17) Hippogriff
A Hippogriff was a magical beast that had the front legs,
wings, and head of a giant eagle and the body, hind legs and
tail of a horse. It was very similar to another magical
creature, the Griffin, with the horse rear replacing the lion
rear.
"Half horse, half eagle creatures, immensely proud and
extremely dangerous."
—Description of a Hippogriff
18) Ghost
Ghosts are unable to have much physical influence. They are visible,
and appear as a greyish-silver apparition of their former (living)
selves. They pass through solid objects without damaging
themselves or the material, but create disturbances in water, fire
and air. The temperature drops in the immediate vicinity of a ghost.
Their presence can also turn flames blue.
"A ghost, as I trust that you are all aware by now, is the imprint of a
departed soul left upon the earth..."
—Professor Severus Snape

F) Magic Potions
1) Amortentia: Amortentia is a love potion[1] that does not create actual love, but gives the
drinker a powerful obsession and infatuation with the giver of the potion. It is usually either
forced upon someone or covertly given. As a rule of thumb the longer a love potion awaits
consumption, the stronger the effects will be.
2) Confusing Concoction: A Confusing Concoction will cause the drinker to become confused,
distracted and sick. During potions in his third year in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of
Azkaban, Harry has to brew this potion but cannot manage to thicken it. Harry sees Severus
Snape scribble something on a clipboard that "looks suspiciously like a zero.”
3) Draught of Living Death: When a person drinks the Draught of Living Death, they go into

powdered root of asphodel which is added to an infusion of wormwood.
-30
4) Draught of Peace: The Draught of Peace provides personal comfort, calms anxiety and
soothes agitation. It is a very difficult potion to make as the ingredients have to be added in a
very specific order, the mixture has to be stirred exactly the right number of times and the
heat of the flames on which it is simmering has to be lowered to exactly the right level for
the right number of minutes before the final ingredient is added.
5) Felix Felicis: Felix Felicis, more commonly known as Liquid Luck, grants whoever drinks it
unusually good luck. The time span of this luck depends on the amount imbibed. Liquid Luck
is one of the hardest potions to make, as noted by Horace Slughorn; "It has to be cooked for
6 months on an extremely complicated formula, and if you make a tiniest mistake, the
consequences are severe". Because of its properties, it is banned in all sporting events,
competitions and examinations.
6) Hiccoughing Potion: Hiccoughing Potion is a simple potion and one of the first that Snape
instructs his first-years to brew in The Philosopher's Stone. The potion, referred to by name,
stops excessive hiccoughing in a matter of seconds.
7) Pepperup Potion: A Pepperup Potion is designed to improve health, relieve coughs and
colds, though it does have one major side effect: it causes steam to dribble from the
patient's ears for several hours afterward. It is also used to quickly elevate body
temperature.
8) Polyjuice Potion: The Polyjuice Potion allows the drinker to assume the appearance of
someone else[4] for an hour or more depending on the quantity. The potion only causes a
physical and voice transformation of the drinker, but clothing is not affected. Its ingredients
include fluxweed, knotgrass, lacewing flies, leeches, powdered Bicorn horn, and shredded
Boomslang skin. The final component is a bit of the individual to be impersonated; strands of
hair are most often used for this purpose.
9) Skele-Gro: Skele-Gro is a medicinal potion that can regrow missing or removed bones,
though it tastes terrible and the process is very slow and extremely painful.
-31-

G) Wizarding Groups, Organizations and Societies
1) The Order of the Phoenix
"It's a secret society. Dumbledore's in charge, he founded it. It's the people who
fought against You-Know-Who last time."
—Description and history of the Order
The Order of the Phoenix was a secret society founded by Albus Dumbledore to
oppose Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters. The original Order was created in the 1970s. It
was constructed after Voldemort returned to England from abroad and started his campaign
to take over the Ministry of Magic and persecute Muggle-borns. The Order worked with the
Ministry to oppose the Dark Lord and his followers, and played a crucial role in the First
Wizarding War. Their first victory came in 1981, with Voldemort's first defeat at the hands of
Harry Potter. The victory came with the high cost of many of their members.
The Order disbanded but was reconvened in 1995 after Harry Potter informed Dumbledore
of Lord Voldemort’s return. The Ministry refused to admit that the Dark Lord had returned,
thus the Order alone worked to protect Harry Potter and the prophecy concerning him and
Voldemort in the Department of Mysteries. After an intense battle occurred there on 18
June 1996 between the Order, Dumbledore's Army, and the Death Eaters, the Ministry
finally admitted the truth.
-32-
2) The Ministry of Magic
The Ministry of Magic is the main governing body of the
magical community of Great Britain and possibly also Ireland, with
the intention of preservation of magical law. The Ministry connects
the British government to the Wizarding world. The headquarters
of the Ministry are in Whitehall, in central London, deep
underground.
It is headed by the Minister of Magic. Each Prime Minister of Great
Britain is visited by the Minister for Magic. During the height of the Dark Lord's power, the
Minister for Magic worked with the Muggle Prime Minister to ensure protection for the
Muggle world.
The Ministry of Magic was formed as a
successor to the earlier Wizard’s
Council and came into being in 1717. It
was involved, in some capacity before
its actual formation, in the International
Confederation of Wizards' decision to
enact the Statue of Secrecy in 1692 and
still today takes the responsibility of
enforcing said Statute in the United
Kingdom. The laws against magic-use by underage wizards and against wand use by non-
wizard folk are also enforced by the Ministry, in part to maintain secrecy.
3) The Death Eaters
The Death Eaters was the name given to the most
ardent followers of Lord Voldemort. The group primarily
consisted of wizards and witches who were radical pure-
blood supremacists who practised the Dark Arts with
reckless abandon, malevolence and without regard to or
fear of wizarding law.
Lord Voldemort used this select group of wizards and witches during both the First and
Second Wizarding Wars, employing them as his elite force. They often wore black hoods and
masks with snake-like eye slits to cover their faces. The Death Eaters were considered Lord
Voldemort's inner circle and had the Dark. Mark burned into their left forearms. When
Voldemort touched one of them, each of the Death Eaters felt it, signalling for them to
Apparate to their leader's side.

H) Horcruxes
"A Horcrux is the word used for an object in which a person has concealed part of
their soul... Well, you split your soul, you see, and hide part of it in an object outside the
body. Then, even if one's body is attacked or destroyed, one cannot die, for part of the soul
remains earthbound and undamaged."
—The nature of Horcruxes
1) Tom Riddle’s Diary
T. M. Riddle's Diary was a simple blank diary, which Tom Riddle
transformed into a Horcrux. The diary was made into a Horcrux in
1943, during Riddle's sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and
Wizardry. It was the first Horcrux he ever made and was used as a
weapon.
Before Lord Voldemort's first defeat in 1981 the diary was passed to
Death Eater Lucius Malfoy. In secret, Malfoy kept the diary before he slipped it, unnoticed,
into Ginny Weasley's cauldron of school supplies at Flourish and Blotts in 1992. The diary
used its dark magical influence to bewitch and force Ginny to re-open the Chamber of
Secrets, but it was destroyed by Harry Potter in 1993 with a Basilisk's Fang.
2) Marvolo Gaunt’s Ring
Marvolo Gaunt's Ring[citation needed] was an heirloom of the House
of Gaunt, descendants of Salazar Slytherin and Cadmus Peverell. It is a
gold ring inset with a black stone (actually the Resurrection Stone, but
neither Marvolo Gaunt nor Lord Voldemort were aware of its
existence) engraved with what Marvolo Gaunt called the Peverell coat
of arms (having come into the Gaunt line from an heiress of the Peverells, not the Slytherin
family), which is actually the symbol of the Deathly Hallows. The signet ring passed through
the male Gaunts, generation to generation, until it was stolen from Morfin Gaunt by Tom
Riddle while Tom framed Morfin for the murders of the Riddle family.
While at Hogwarts, Tom openly wore the ring. He later made the ring into his second
Horcrux. Tom did not enchant the ring right away, as he was seen wearing it while asking
Horace Slughorn about Horcruxes, as seen through Slughorn's memories in a pensieve.

3) Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup
"Remember the cup's small and gold, it's got a badger engraved on
it, two handles —"
—Harry Potter describing the cup[src]
Hufflepuff's Cup was a magical item created by Helga Hufflepuff,
one of the founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and
Wizardry. It was a small golden cup with two finely-wrought
handles with a badger engraved on the side and a few jewels. The badger is the symbol of
Hufflepuff House. The cup also has the dubious distinction of being the only object known to
have been stolen from a vault at Gringotts Wizarding Bank.
4) Salazar Slytherin’s Locket
Slytherin's Locket was a piece of jewellery originally owned by Salazar
Slytherin that became an heirloom of his family. It was a locket of heavy gold with
a serpentine S in glittering green stone inlay on the front. After descending down
from Slytherin, it came into the possession of the Gaunt family, and Marvolo Gaunt
treasured this heirloom of this pure-blood heritage along with his ring heirloom.
After Marvolo and his son Morfin Gaunt were sent to Azkaban, the locket was
stolen by Marvolo's daughter Merope Gaunt, who sold it to Caractacus Burke for
ten Galleons, a price far below what the priceless artefact was truly worth.
5) Rowena Ravenclaw’s Diadem
A tiara said to grant wisdom to the wearer. It was lost for
centuries before it became a Horcrux."
—Description of the Diadem[src]
Ravenclaw's Diadem[1] (also known as the Lost Diadem of
Ravenclaw) was the only known relic once belonging to
Rowena Ravenclaw, the founder of Ravenclaw House at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and
Wizardry. Etched upon its surface was Ravenclaw's famous quote: "Wit beyond measure is
man's greatest treasure."
-35-
It was said to enhance the wisdom of its wearer, which is Ravenclaw House's most treasured
attribute. It had a blue sapphire shaped like an oval. The diadem was later stolen by her
daughter, Helena, a fact Rowena kept a secret from the other founders 'till her death bed.
Rowena Ravenclaw's Diadem, Helga Hufflepuff's Cup and Salazar Slytherin's Locket, made up
three of Lord Voldemort's Horcruxes
6) Nagini
Nagini was a female Maledictus cursed to transform
into a snake. Originating possibly in Indonesia, by
1927 she was a performer at the Circus Arcanus
where she met Credence Barebone and had the ability
then to transform at will. By 1994, Nagini was
seemingly trapped in snake form and belonged to Lord Voldemort, with whom she had a
special bond largely due to becoming a Horcrux, after her master had killed Bertha Jorkins in
1994.
After Voldemort's initial downfall, he used Nagini's venom as one of the ingredients for a
Potion to regain strength, which eventually led to his rebirth in 1995. Later in the same year,
she attacked Arthur Weasley but he managed to survive. During the Second Wizarding War,
she had to be destroyed for Voldemort to finally be defeated. Nagini was killed by Neville
Longbottom with Godric Gryffindor's Sword in 1998 and was the last Horcrux to be
destroyed.
7) Harry Potter
It was created accidentally due to unstable soul and due to the
killing curse backfiring in 1981.
-36-
I) The Escape of Sirius Black
Sirius Black, a wizard who was imprisoned for murder, has
escaped Azkaban Prison. Black is believed to be so dangerous
that even Muggle TV news reports are issuing warnings about a
dangerous fugitive. When Harry storms out of the Dursleys'
house following an argument, he notices an ominous-looking
large black dog watching him in the street. In Diagon Alley,
Harry overhears Arthur and Molly Weasley discussing Sirius
Black, a suspected Voldemort supporter who escaped solely to
find and murder Harry. Later, Mr. Weasley asks a rather
bemused Harry to promise not to look for Black.
Black breaks into Hogwarts on Halloween, but when “the Fat
Lady” bars him from entering the Gryffindor common room he
slashes her portrait and escapes. Shortly after, in Potions class, Draco Malfoy taunts Harry
about never seeking revenge on Sirius Black, though Harry is confused about what he means.
Just before Christmas, Harry overhears a conversation in the Three Broomsticks pub that
Black betrayed James and Lily Potter to Voldemort, and afterward murdered their friend,
Peter Pettigrew, along with twelve Muggle bystanders. Harry is shocked to learn that Black is
also his godfather.
Enraged, Harry vows to avenge his parents' deaths. Soon
after, Black slips into the Gryffindor common room using
Neville Longbottom's lost password list. He shreds Ron's
bed curtains with a knife, but flees when Ron wakes up
screaming. It is as yet unclear why Black attempted to
attack Ron rather than Harry.
However, our timeline in the committee will start right
after the escape of Sirius Black and we will not be
following the events told in the original plot. You, as the
characters, will be determining the upcoming incidents
with your directives and discussions.
