2001-2011 10 YEArS OF

The very beginning: North kiteboarding was born in 2001 in the USA and from the start on established as a full-range supplier of kiteboarding equipment. Innovation, continuous product development and improvement have always been the main priority for NKB and over the last 10 years our experience in R&D, performance innovations and commit-ment to outstanding quality have made North Kiteboarding a world-wide market leader in kiteboarding. Already in this early stage, Till Eberle, still boss of North Kiteboarding, overtook the lead and set the focus on technical advantage combined with style. The main work now started when NKB kite designer Ken Winner finalized the design of the Rhino 1; a powerful 4 line C-kite with an (at the time) innovative segmented leading edge. The Rhino blew minds that year with it’s impressive low-end grunt and huge hang time. Already in 2002, North Kiteboarding introduced a full ran-ge of bags, harnesses and accessories and decidedly made a point of not patenting certain kite related innovations to benefit the growth of the sport as a whole. 2003 saw the release of the first Jaime Pro Model twin tip. NKB team rider and tester Jaime Herraiz remains one of the most well-known and respected riders in the industry to this day, with his contagious smile and timeless style. His pro model board is still one of the best selling boards in our lineup and quite possibly the most sold kite board of all time.NKB raised the bar in 2004 by setting a new industry-wide standard in board construction, with the release of the first kiteboard to utilize snowboard technology. ABS sidewalls and controlled flex remain state of the art industry standards to this day. The release of the groundbreaking movie “Space Monkeys”, sparking the progressive freestyle / handle pass movement that revolutionized new-school and competition riding, as well as the surf movement. NKB team riders Jaime Herraiz and Will James opened people’s eyes by ripping apart the surf on John Amundson’s North Rocket Fish, which quickly became the most talked about kite-surfboard in the sport, igniting a surf movement that is still going on today. This same year the legendary Vegas, one of NKB’s best selling kites of all time, was introduced. The Vegas remains synonymous with newschool freestyle riding in today’s mar-

ket and is setting the standards – every single year. 2005 marked one of the greatest safety innovations in the sports’ history. The North 5th Element safety system offers the highest level of safety and is still utilized on all North ki-tes as well as many other kiteboarding brands. Sky Solbach joined the North team and began developing kites alongside Ken and Jaime. 2006 saw the crowning of 3 world champions and one world record holder on the NKB team. Jaime Herraiz went on to spearhead the North Young Blood Camps in 2007, bringing a new level of professionalism to kiteboarding’s youth, opening new avenues for young riders to pursue careers as athletes in the sport. Our high de-power, loaded 5th line North Rebel was released and proved itself as a performance and safety leader in an extremely competiti-ve market place while most other kite brands were busy chasing the “bow kite revolution.” With the growing demand for an increasingly diverse range of kites, North brought on a second full-time kite designer, Ralf Grösel, in 2008. Ralf developed the free-ride / newschool Evo with 4 and 5 line compatibility which continues to be one of our best selling models and is now taking care also for the Vegas and the Neo. In 2009 the high performance, no-compromise Team Series range hit the market along with the Gonzales entry level board and NKB also introduced the first ever production course racing board designed by course racing world champion and NKB team rider Charles Deleau. Since 2010 NKB is working in close cooperation with leading global material providers like Teijin and Oxeon to develop the best materials and products, like e.g. Technoforce D2 canopy ma-terial or the lightest and most high-tech carbon twin tip on the market, the Select. North Kiteboarding utilized 10 years’ experience of kite production to create “Progression 11”, the highest quality kite construction method ever achieved, with the closest attention to every last detail on all kite models. Quality control and steady improvement are the major tools to earn the respect of our customers and to fulfill your desi-res with the best products.

D2 = DURABILITY × DYNAMIC

The stiffer structure of the entire kite geometry ensures that all kites feel more solid and crispy and react immediately on steering commands. Load transmissions working on 3 dimensional bodies are variable, besides warp and weft the stiffness has an massive influence on the flying characte-ristics. Due to the unique double ripstop construction, Tech-noforce D2 offers a significant higher stiffness concerning diagonal stiffness then common clothing. This is the key to the stiffer structure of the whole kite geometry and this is the reason why all kites feels more solid, crispy and react immediately on steering commands.

From now on, all North Kiteboarding Kites are built with Technoforce D2 material. There’s simply no better choice of canopy material.

All 2011 North Kiteboarding Kites are now built using the highest quality Technoforce D2 material. D2 stands for Dynamic and Durability. Over the past years the North Kiteboarding R&D team has been experimenting with exclusive Technoforce D2 material and developing it closely together with Teijin, the market leader in canopy materials. Multiple tests over the years have consistently produced the same results:

_Technoforce D2 material offers a 40% higher breaking strength_70% higher tearing strength and also improved flying characteristics.

The main advantage of Technoforce D2 is less broken kites due to way higher durability than other canopy materials – even after years of heavy use. One main reason for this is the unique coating system of the D2 material. Each individual thread is first coated before being woven together and then completely coated again to produce the final material. This ensures that even if the outer coating is beginning to wear thin after years of heavy use and UV exposure, the individual threads are still protected and the material remains crisp and durable. Technoforce D2 also features a unique double ripstop construction which signifi-cantly increases diagonal stiffness. Because of the dynamic load transmissions placed on kites, stiffness has a massive influence on flying characteristics. Practical tests have shown better flying performance of kites with Technoforce D2 compared to typical canopy cloth due to this higher diagonal stiffness.

NEW INFLATE – DEFLATE VALVES

2011 we invented a completely new valve system. The valve now offers a bombproof closing system, very easy and comfortable to handle and with an integrated deflator pin. The material of the valve itself and the connection to the tube also has been improved so the valves can not twist anymore and can not slip into the tube. PUMP – SSSITTT – CLOSED – GO KITING

FUSION 11

The fusion 11 is a completely new connection between the strut and leading edge. In contrast to normal connections, the forces are no longer supported by a webbing strap but by a flexible line. The line ensures a perfectly clean connection of strut to leading edge even with the smallest struts and offers our strongest strut connection ever. Just a little revolution in strut technology!

DOUBLED AND CLEANED PIGTAILS

New ways in constructing Front – and Back Pigtails have been found by NKB. No more belt struts are used, but strongest dyneema lines. The advantage of the lines is the flexibility at the edge of the canopy, so they can flex in every single direction, not like stiff belt struts. Further more two layers of strongest Dacron are sewed on all Pigtails which ensures a perfect and flutter free load transmission.

COMPUTER SUPPORTED SEWING

At North Kiteboarding we strive to perfect the smallest manufacturing details. With the aid of computer-supported sewing machines, we are guaranteed the strongest possible seam construction and a clean, good-looking stitch. Our extremely durable double V pigtails are also constructed using this innovation for maximum quality.

RELAUNCH BUNGEES

The 2011 Rebel and Evo both utilize the same new re-launch bungee system. A small ring supports an elastic bungee attached to the front leg of the back line “V”. When the lines are not under flying tension, the V is pulled tight to the leading edge preventing any line snags on the kite’s wingtips during launching, landing and water re-launch. The clean, low profile design requires no assembly when attaching your lines to the kite and is reinforced with a durable PVC patch to prevent any wear on the leading edge.

At NKB we strive to make the most innovative, durable and user-friendly products on the market. It’s often the smallest details that make a difference and for 2011 we took a even closer look at all existing production details and continued to improve them one by one after a great quality advantage in 2010. The result of our extensive construction overhaul is what we call PROGRESSION 11: A very detailed catalogue of product features that are simple yet highly effective for quality and performance. By simplifying the production pro-cess and standardizing single parts of products throughout our range, the construction process and the number of parts needed has been greatly optimized. For the first time ever computer supported sewing machines have been imple-

mented, guaranteeing a perfect stitch that is durable and of the highest quality. Cloth cutting processes have also been optimized, allowing us to use more expensive and higher quality materials that are lighter and more durable. Even the seam construction diagram has been changed from the classic zigzag stitch to a stronger triple zigzag. All top are now stitched and glued. The list of improvements is long and peppered with completely new innovations like the Fusion 11 and the new pigtails. Before any product can leave the factory, it must pass all quality inspections and check points. Every production pro-cess is defined in the smallest detail and accurately logged, allowing us to achieve the highest level of quality control for every single product. With the sum of innovations, new mate-rials, construction changes and quality control procedures, the standard of our products has risen to an entirely new level.

C-Kite Feeling: This is used to describe a kite which has a very direct feel and stable bar especially when

unhooking and doing kite loops.

LOOP ABILITYDescribes a kites ability to do kite loops.

POPA kite that has direct and explosive take-offs

when doing big jumps or doing powered tricks is said to have good pop.

C-KITE FEELINGOriginal C-Kite four lines character with 5th

line safety and typical C shape.

COMFORTA completely subjective issue. A kite that is comfortable for a novice may be boring for

an expert, while a kite that is comfortable for an expert may to too challenging for an

intermediate rider.

HANG TIMEA kite that is good at keeping the rider han-ging in the air during a jump is said to have

good hang time.

DEPOWER ABILITYThe kite’s ability to dump wind and create

less pull when the rider sheets out (pushes the bar away).

SHEET AND GODescribes pulling the bar towards you (shee-ting in) to go and pushing the bar away from

(sheeting out) you to stop.

REACTIVE STEERINGA term used to describe a kite that reacts instantaneously to the rider’s steering input.

STEERING OVERPOWEREDThe ability to steer the kite even when the bar is pushed away from the rider (sheeted out) and the back lines are relatively slack.

STABILITYA kite is said to be stable if it behaves in a desirable and predictable way throughout its designated wind range and even in wind that is unsteady.

UPWIND ABILITYA kite’s ability to ride at a high angle into the wind.

LOW ENDThe power a kite can develop at the lower end of its designated wind range.

Whether you’re ripping apart waves, getting huge, lofty jumps or just blasting around on flat water, the 2011 Rebel is a stylish 5-line all-terrain free-ride / wave machine that gives you an unmatched “connected” feel and virtually limitless performance in all conditions. The Rebel has become famous for it’s direct de-power, smooth, predictable turning, even when de-powered, and short bar stroke. And this year is no exception! Flutter-free wingtips have again greatly improved the smoothness and consistency of the Rebel’s turning. This smooth turning combined with optimized canopy profiles that are highly resistant to back-stalling provide seamless power delivery ideal for surfing. Improved bar feel and de-power in the small sizes means even more comfortable and accessible top-end so you can keep having fun even when the wind gets nuclear.

The loaded 5th line design provides the highest level of safety as well as being responsible for the unique short de-power stroke and direct lively feeling. Mainly due to the floating strut construction, the Rebels get a very direct and precise feeling – even when depowered. Our highest quality standard “Progression 11” construction means the Rebel is built to last and withstand the demands that serious riders put on their kites, as well as providing a long list of other slick details like back line V bungees and snag free strut ends. Now stop dreaming and go ride!

A dedicated free-ride / wave kite that already sparked the future of 4 line performance. The Fuse is a different kind of free-ride / wave kite with a huge wind range, light, predictable feel and great jumping qualities. Its unique and simple Attack Control Bridle gives the Fuse smooth, reactive steering that is especially evident when de-powered, making it a huge step forward in terms of manoeuvrability and directness on 4 lines. Additionally, the new AC Bridle gives you the ability to safely and completely de-power the Fuse on its back similar to a 5 line system. Easily accessible low-

end power and extreme resistance to back-stalling gives the Fuse great light wind capabilities while the AC Bridle ensu-res direct de-power and a crisp bar feeling even in strong winds with easy push and pull power. The Fuse is built to last utilizing the newest Technoforce canopy material D2 – already since the first generation of the Fuse – that is more resistant to tearing than conventional material. Lazy pump simplicity will get you on the water quickly and easily when it counts. To ensure a 100% safety solution the Fuse can also be flown on the 5th Element if desired.

DYNO

Enter the Dyno. This is the light-wind kite with undeniable Racing roots which gives you fun and performance already starting in the slightest breeze. It offers parked power similar to a parafoil together with superior dynamic power, better depower, more nuanced bar feel, better turning speed and superior safety (owing to inflatable elements). A versati-le kite that will fly on either four lines or five, it has superior performance and handling, light winds and lulls are handled with ease. If you wanna freeride, match with your friends or enter the worldcup circus, the Dyno won’t disappoint you. The consistent pull makes it possible and also gets you through the lulls. The seven strut design is one of the main reasons to be able to offer the huge depower.

Low weight is clearly the Dyno’s main feature. To get it, several steps have been taken. The Lazy Pump inflation system was eliminated because single-point inflation of course adds weight. Thinner bladder material and a lighter Dacron have been used in the inflatable elements. Two extra segments are put in the arc between the quarter ribs, which produced a slightly truer aerofoil in the center lifting area. Construction details that contribute crucially to function and durability remain, others were eliminated. As a result, the 18-meter Dyno flys in winds that are barely perceptible.

A new Dynosty in lightwind performance has just begun.

The “5th Element-like Pressureless Safety System” continues to be the most important feature of the Solid. In addition to the regular landing and relaunch option, this system offers perfect safety functions: releasing the 5th Element safety line pulls down the kite’s central profile, causing the rest of the kite to collapse backwards. The wind meets no resistance and the depowered kite sinks to the ground. Together with improved profile and bridle geometries we optimized the flying properties of the various sizes.

The smaller sizes now have more harmonious flying cha-racteristics and permit an absolutely stress free kiting experience, particularly for newcomers and intermediate riders. The Vario Trim option allows the rider to adjust the kite to personal preferences. The Solid is a true fun kite. With its easy and forgiving flying characteristics, together with a wide wind range and the safety of the 5th Element, the Solid 09 combines reliability, easy handling and performance.

North Trainer Kites are available in two different sizes. The Lizard 1.8 and the Lizard 2.5 offer a safe and enjoyable way for beginners to learn the basics of the sport. The Ram Air Construction makes the trainer kites very durable and foolproof to handle. The new internal const-ruction supports the cross spots and make the kites bullet proof. The kite’s exact and direct reaction to steering impul-

ses, helps newcomers to acquire all the flying know-how necessary for kiteboarding. The two line kites are supplied with a 50 cm wide, rubber coated aluminum bar. Just like the original North Scepter bar, it has winding posts for fast and tangle-free winding. The Ram Air kites come ready to fly, will take no time to set up and pack up small.

TRUST BAR5TH ELEMENT / QUAD CONTROL

TRUST BAR 5TH ELEMENT 2011Still one step ahead, the fifth edition of our tried and tested 5th Element Bar is possibly the most effective and trustwor-thy safety system on the market. 2010 nearly any Kiteboar-ding magazine declared it the test winner. The Iron Heart IV requires minimal release forces and is not affected by harsh sand and saltwater conditions. The double de-power line in combination with the Sliding Stopper and Stopper Ball ensures that the bar is always where you want it to be in all situations. Our small, lightweight Vario Cleat allows you to quickly and easily adjust it to your desired de-power stroke while the system automatically trims your lines to the perfect length. If the dangling trim line has ever interfered with your flow in the past, you can now forget about it focus on your riding: Simply Velcro the dangling portion to the stopper ball so it’s never in your way. The Micro Loop is no longer an integrated feature, but for those who like the comfort of riding with fixed power, the system can quickly and easily be fitted. Riders of all skill levels, from newcomers to pros, will benefit from the simplicity and functionality of the new 5th Element Bar Trust Bar and Iron Heart IV.

TRUST BAR QUAD CONTROL 2011Our new Quad control bar also comes equipped with the new Iron Heart IV. The front line safety system works similar to a 5th Element by allowing the kite to fall to the water and lay de-powered on it’s back in perfect re-launch position. Although reliable in most situations, it does not offer the same level of safety of the 5th Element system.

IRON HEART IV

FRENCH NORM 2011For the 2011 bars, we insisted on applying the French norm, just like every year. This means that a public insti-tution must test various requirements to two systems of the bar under preset conditions:

_The quick release system of the bar (Iron Heart) and_The quick release that separates the rider completely from the kite (safety leash)

Both safety systems are tested in various media, the release force must not exceed 100 N (9.8 Kg). The actual release process of both systems must not exceed 0.5sec. The transition from riding position to release (reaching for the Iron Heart or safety leash from riding position with both hands on the bar) must not exceed 2sec.

OThEr rEquirEmENTS:The grips of the release system must be red and the direction of release must be indicated. The release grips must be easy to reach. Furthermore, the Iron Heart must resist a load of 300 kg without deformation and without losing functionality. The same applies to the safety leash with a load of 150 kg. The system is tested in the worst sandy and salty conditions.

Still lots of actual systems on the market are not able to reach this norm! Some systems just explode under the pressure.

ROTO HEAD

After spins, the Roto Head offers you a simple and free back-rotation of the lines. This ensures to have a constant safety function in all situations. This invention again makes kiting a little bit more comfortable and safe.

AUTO POSITIONING IRON HEART IV Due to its ergonomic design, the Iron Heart IV can be easily hooked in after unhooked tricks.Low friction and a high quality metal hole complete the perfect picture.

FLIP FLOP CHICKEN DICK The Flip Flop Chicken Dick is moveable into two positions with a digital on/off modus.

_SupEr EASY rEASSEmBLiNg

The easy mechanism, makes it foolproof easy to reassemble the system one handed.

_LighT wEighT CONSTruCTiON

The light weight construction is built out of finest selected, durable materials.

This special mix of high performance materials fulfils the world’s highest quality standards.

Five years after its introduction to the market, the Iron Heart IV, again redefines the benchmark for safety. The light but solid stainless steel and plastic material combination is one of the most reliable safety systems on the market. The release forces are very low by less than 4 kg at a load of 200 kg in a dry and sand free environment. Excellent function is ensured even in wet and sandy conditions with fewer than 7 kg release force at 200 kg. The centrally located Iron Heart IV release grip is large and ergo-nomic for a fast and good function. It is very easy to find and can be operated either with the right or left hand. The futuristic design pre-vents the system from jamming and greatly facilitates reassembling.

SAFETY FUNCTION Delivered with every bar, you have the choice between the standard safety mode and an easy adjustable suicide mode.

AtteNtioN: just the freeride modus delivers the 100% safety solution!

Only experienced riders with special needs should use this option. We

recommend to always use the standard safety mode. Riders using the

suicide mode must be aware of the consequences and are responsible for

occurring damages!

IRON HEART IV The in 2010 completely new developed NKB Iron Heart IV is the new benchmark in safety release systems. The design reduces release forces to less than 7 kg at a load of 200 kg, which makes the system easy to operate and reliable in any emergency situation. The NKB Iron Heart of course fulfils the demands of the French Norm. The light design also facilitates fast and easy reassembling. METAL CENTER PART The new developed shape of the metal center hole reduces the friction on the lines and realizes easy sheeting and less abrasion.Due to the new shape of the center part, it is ensured that the grip can not be damaged by the iron heart or the stopper ball. At unhooked riding, the metal center part is responsible for the repositioning of the Iron Heart IV.

SAFETY LEASH The new North Safety Leash 2011 is perfect for any type of kite and rider. This leash offers lowest release forces in any conditions. In emergency situations, the leash can be released through a safety mechanism. The whole system meets the demands of the French Norm. The 2010 leash is delivered with a new developed carabiner, holding loads up to 250 kg. Just that quality makes the carabiner the ideal solution for the suicide mode of the iron heart. A neo-prene sleeve with plastic slider avoids accidental hookings.

STICKY BAR GRIP The new allover embossed grip, is exclusively developed for North Kiteboarding to ensure a firm hold and perfect riding comfort. The allover embossing gives you a softer feel of the EVA, but is still very durable. The solution is an even stickier grip, in all situations. 2011 the bar offers even more and softer grip and a better feel due to a new ergonomic form.

FREE SLIDING STOPPER AND STOPPER BALL The Sliding Stopper and the Stopper Ball permit you to adjust the depower lines on the water. Particularly in light wind conditions you will be more comfortable if you do not have to constantly hold the weight of the bar. It has two different settings for more and for less traction. To change the settings, all you need to do, is to take the ball of the depower lines, turn around the ball and reassemble it. The Sliding Stopper Ball also reduces wear on the depower lines. 2011 the system was redesigned to make twisting of the lines nearly impossible. Caution: since this system is able to redu-ce the kites maximum depower, it should only be used on the water and at a safe distance from dangerous objects. The Free Sliding Stopper is easy to operate with one hand.

MICRO HOOK / MICRO LOOP To activate this bar feature, you need the Micro Hook upgrade kit. The Micro Hook system allows a way of riding, with the North bar permanently hooked in. This setup transfers a larger percentage of the load to the harness and reduces arm fatigue. To connect or disconnect, pull the bar towards you and twist it. The Fix Loop is placed at an angle that makes accidental hooking impossible. The construction with Dyneema line inside the loop is more resistant and durable. In case of emergency simply pull the quick release mechanism at the iron heart and the kite will depower.

VARIO CLEAT North’s Vario Cleat offers an easy and precise way to control the kite’s power. The adjuster can be positioned anywhere on the depower line and allows you to customize the bar to your size and liking. The trim loop is attached to the counter piece at the stopper ball with a Velcro and doesn’t wrap around the center line during kiting.

SOFT WINDER The soft winder with protective rubber coating at the bar ends, reduces the risk of injuries and protects the lines. The separate rubber bungee prevents accidental unwinding.

WEBBING ADJUSTER The Webbing Adjuster makes it easy to individually adjust the kite’s power. For minimum effort the adjuster is always pulled downwards, both for increasing and decreasing power. Pulling the lower loop reduces the kite’s power, while pulling the upper red ring conveniently increases power step by step. Available as spare part.

SAFETY Whether you ride unhooked, spin, try a water relaunch for the first time or practice a handle pass, all maneu-vers, including the latest tricks, can now be performed with the safety leash of the 5th Element. As soon as you pull the Iron Heart or let go of the bar it slides up the safety line. The kite is then completely de-powered and comes down without twisting the lines.

RELAUNCH The 5th Element allows you to re-launch the Vegas without having to swim towards the kite. From the nose down position, simply pull the 5th line towards you to get the kite to tip onto it’s back while simultaneously pulling one back line. The kite will make it’s way to the edge of the window and take off. The 5th Element also allows you to relaunch the Rhino and Rebel in light winds.

PERFORMANCE The 5th Element stabilizes the kite’s arc and thus clearly increases performance. Enhanced profile stiffness brings considerable advantages in depowered situations and increases the kite’s wind range. As a result, the kite flies closer to the edge of the wind window and responds more directly to steering impulses.

5TH ELEMENT In its fifth year, North Kiteboarding’s 5th Element has been thoroughly redesigned for even more effective safe-ty release functions. The reworked IronHeart and Safety Leash require lower release forces and are now more functional even in sandy and wet salt-water conditions. The new Sliding Stopper and Stopperball with the dou-ble depower line ensure a perfect hold of the bar in all situations. The smaller and lighter VarioCleat helps you to adjust the bar fast and easy for a perfect fit. Riders of all levels, from pros to newcomers, will benefit from the advantages of the new 2011 5th Element bar setup.

LOADED 5TH LINE The Rebel is a loaded 5th Line kite meaning that it flies with constant tension on the 5th line. This makes the Re-bel incredibly direct when sheeting in and out and gives it a con-sistently solid and steady bar feel.

The flying lines developed in cooperation with FSE Robline were a complete novelty when they were first introduced on the kite market. After four years of experience and through testing by the most demanding kiters, North Kiteboarding schools and teamriders know, that they can always rely on these lines. Now the next evolution in kitelines has arrived. The FL-10. Long life lines, extremely robust and with highest durability. Conventional lines get their stiffness from a coating that is damaged by repeated folding. If a line is folded, the coating (wax) is extruded and the line will always fold in the same spot. To prevent this, we weave a Monofill into our lines, that restores the original shape (Memory Effect) and ensures that the next time the line bends in a different spot. If the line is only gently bent, it returns faster to its original shape and it becomes a little stiffer. This technology makes laying out the lines more comfortable and quicker. The increased breaking strength of 270 daN (approximately 270kg) is an added bonus. To ensure that the lines are attached correctly we use Monofill in different colors. The connection points are different to prevent wrong attaching.Lots of work for just a line – but these lines are your life insurance.

3D WOOD CARBON CAP SANDWICH

2011 is a big leap forward in board technology as North Kiteboarding introduces the 3D Wood Carbon Cap Sandwich in combination with the Responsive Center Flex. Combining the unique characteristics of wood core and carbon fiber, with an advanced flex pattern from a CNC milled 3D deck and concave bottom, the 2011 North Kiteboard range is set-ting a new standard in performance, comfort and durability.

TECHNOLOGY LEADER

The unique thing about the 3D Wood Carbon Cap Sandwich is the fully 3D shaped wood core with the advanced deck flex pattern and concave bottom. This type of advanced step cap sandwich construction, in combination with a concave bottom has previously only been possible to manufacture with foam cores, which have certain limitations regarding flex, core thickness and shear strength.

Thanks to our strong R&D focus and collaboration with one of the world’s leading snowboard factories, North Kiteboar-ding is the first company in the world to introduce 3D Wood Carbon Cap Sandwich. This technology opens up a new door for flex development. In terms of kiteboards it means a significant performance boost and a whole new level of comfort for the rider.

WHY IS THE 3D WOOD CARBON CAP SAND-WICH CONSTRUCTION BETTER?

COmFOrTThe strong, fibrous structure of the wood core allows a thin-ner core profile and a higher amount of bending compared with a traditional foam core, without the risk of breakage. The result is a board with a greater amount of flex, working as an active suspension whilst riding, providing a smooth and controlled feeling even through rough water.

rESpONSivENESSThanks to the natural flex characteristics and spring back of the wood core, our new boards have a respon-sive and lively feel on the water, without sacrificing the comfort. To get that extra boost in the pop we’ve added carbon fiber beams on the Jaime and Pro Series. A further step in technology is the Responsive Center Flex. The result is a highly responsive, yet still forgiving board, with instant feedback to the rider’s input.

CONTrOLThe 3D Wood Carbon Cap Sandwich construction has a higher amount of flex and torsion than a traditional foam core. This allows the board to quickly adapt to every impact from the water surface, giving the rider more space for mistakes, without the risk of loosing control. What the rider will experience is a board that’s easy to set up for take off and forgiving in the landings, and maintains good grip when riding full speed through choppy water. On the Jaime and X-Ride, the concave bottom keeps the board sucked to the surface of the water while effortlessly blasting through knee high chop, drawing full speed turns or carving in the waves.

TOSION FLEX

STrENgThOur wood core has three times higher density than a standard foam core, and much greater strength and impact resistance. Fatigue resistance, the ability to withstand stress caused by thousands of impacts and hard landings over time, has been significantly improved. Heel dents, split cores and cracked laminates are history. The new 3D Wood Carbon Cap Sandwich is the strongest construction we’ve ever made, reassuring a long life and functionality for your kiteboard.

3D DECKS RESPONSIVE CENTER FLEX (SELECT / TEAm SEriES / jAimE / xridE / SOLEiL)

For 2011 we have worked hard to further enhance the fee-ling and performance of our twin tips through innovation. A harmonic flex from front to rear means that the rocker line is actively changing and adapting to the water’s surface, which gives you pro active dampening and absorption of chop. Furthermore, the continuous flex offers increased power flow for hard pop, making take-offs easier and more pre-dictable. Our Torsional Absorption System offers smoother, stickier landings, a more solid feel through the water, more grip on the heel-side edge and consequently better upwind performance. Flex Tips give you more control when com-bined with our lower bottom curve as well as responsive, controllable pop and cushioned, comfortable landings.

HARMONIC WATER FLOW

This year’s main development in twintip design is for sure the double V bottoms for the Teamseries and the Jaime boards. A completely new bottom with two V keels and in a 4° angle nicely adjusted fins. With this keel and fin combina-tion a faster but smoother ride with lots of control is achie-ved. The whole increase in performance could be achieved by the teamwork of keel geometry and the 4° angle set up of the fins – an achievement from racing.Further also a better pop and more control during and after landings are main benefits. The double V bottom is

stabilizing the whole board because of a smoother water-flow and gives you more control through the board ends. You’ll always exactly feel what’s happening under your feet. All Teamseries and Jaimes show the advantages of early planning, maximum performance and still more comfort! Double V!

RIDE FRIENDLY ridE FriENdLY

All North Kiteboarding 2011 surfboards are made using a bam-boo skin on both, the base and the deck of the boards. Bamboo has a high strength to weight ratio which has obvious benefits in making a durable board that will withstand hard heel impacts and pressure dents, while still keeping the overall board weight to a minimum. Bamboo itself offers excellent dampening properties which allows Sky Solbach, the new shaping icon of North Kiteboarding, to create surfboards that feel light and lively under your feet, while not feeling overly bouncy or chattery through the chop, effectively smoothing out the ride. Bamboo is now becoming more widely used throughout the surf industry for the exact same reasons. Additionally, bamboo is of course a natural and easily renewable resource. We feel it just should be natural to care about your planet, especially when loving and living an outdoor sport so closely connected to nature like kitesurfing. Finally, on top of all of these benefits, the immaculate finish and bamboo wood grains give each one of our boards a unique and distinct look.

Every single one is not less than unique.Baaambooooo!

The 2011 Race Ltd. features a shorter, wider design with more volume that will carry you through the lightest wind lulls. An optimized rocker makes the Race Ltd. incredibly smooth and controllable through the chop and

you will never have to worry about stuffing the nose when you’re flying down wind towards the finish line. The extre-mely domed deck allows you to maintain lateral pressure for optimal board trimming to maximize your upwind angle. The 2011 Race Ltd. also features CNC-cut G-10 quad fins and a superlight construction that is massively performance enhancing. So if you’re looking to get out in the lightest possible breeze or blazing around the race course, the Race Ltd. is the absolute performance leader.

VARIO PADS 2011

For the footpad we again found a way, how to increase performance, comfort and grip. The result defines a new level of support, fit and comfort. Particularly, we were able to optimize the hardness grade in the heel and toe area for excellent support. Still unique, you can choose between three levels of softness of your pad. All three different pads are delivered with every footpad and vary from soft, middle to hard.

Customized to your special needs and preferences, you’ll for sure find the right setting for you. The footpad plate is still quick and easy to mount, it is screwed onto the board with two screws together with the Multi Adjustable Footstrap 2011. All that’s left to do then, is to step you’re your new slippers and enjoy the ride.

S-BEND FINS 2011

The S-Bend fins are the revolution in fin market. The new design is not just a design, because of construction advantages! From the first moment on, they deliver more grip, while gliding free earlier. Especially at hard lan-dings, they rapidly provide a very sticky feel and help to nail more tricks on the water than ever before.

SURF FINS 2011

The 2011 Kontact and Whip come stock with future fin boxes and high quality moulded fiber glass fins. Available in two sizes, these are the exact fins that have been tested throughout the development process of the

boards. Now rest assured that no matter what hap-pens to your fins, they will be easily replaceable as Future Fins are readily available at surf shops world wide. Not to forget the aggressive design!

FATHEAD:Come stock with the 6'3" Kontact and the 5'2" Whip. Grippy and plenty of drive off the bottom for larger riders who are used to pushing hard and driving up the face with power!

PINHEAD:Come stock with the 5'9", 6'0" Kontact and the 5'8", 5'10", 6'0" WAM. Fast and snappy, the Pinheads offer excellent grip and loads of speed to keep you and your fins flying above the lip where they belong!

DIRECTIONAL FOOTSTRAP 2011

The directional straps are cushier than ever. Extra foam layers on the inside ensure the most comfortable ride that your feet ever experienced! The strap is now adjustable and can be optimized to every size of feet in seconds! The Flexzones permit maximum range of motion with perfect board control at all times.

RACE FINS 2011

Highest performance achieved through the best ma-terials available at the market combined with a huge development effort. But the Detail which makes the difference between champions and competitors…

MULTI ADJUSTABLE FOOTSTRAP 2011

The Multi Adjustable Footstrap 2011 offers you a wide range of footstrap sizes and positions with only one strap. Apart from the size you can also adjust the strap’s asymmetry and width. Once fitted to the width and shape of your foot, the strap can be adjusted in size as usual (with or without booties). The strap’s enhanced construction on the inside increases comfort and provides a good hold in combination with the progressive 2011 VARIO PADS. The base fits the North Kiteboarding Footpad Plate for quick and easy moun-ting – simply “plug and screw”!

The S version of the adjustable footstraps was deve-loped for women and generally for smaller feet. Apart form the reduced length and width it is identical to the big footstrap and ensures optimum comfort and support for all maneuvers on the water.

HARNESSES 2011

2. SOUl2. SOUl 1. pOp1. pOp

That definitely sounds like something that everybody should enjoy from time to time. In kiteboarding this is absolutely possible. However, an uncomfortable harness that doesn’t fit properly or even chafes the skin because the right material was left out in the wrong places can ruin it all. We at North, don’t like that either and we’d get endless complaints from our team riders, if they had to kite with sore skin. Luckily for all of us, Jaime’s waist is still soft as

a baby’s butt and none of our contest riders, neither Mario nor Cesar or Tom, have ever sent us photos of bruises on their perfect bodies. Ever since we introduced our front plate, North harnesses have been among the most comfor-table products of their kind. Overdesigned products are not our world. Functionality, on the other hand, is indispensable! This is what you feel from the very first moment on, but also after lots of great sessions on the water.

NKB AIR-STYLER 2011

In the newest version of the North harnesses we were able to enhance the fit by optimizing the position of the Molded Flex zone Patches. In addition to the Molded Wa-ist Support Patches, the air bubble back padding makes sure that the harness adapts perfectly to the shape of the body. Slipping was yesterday and the wearing comfort remains unsurpassed! If dangling straps bothered you in the past you’ll no longer find a reason to complain: the strap pockets were enlarged sufficiently to accommodate all excess straps.

NKB STYLER 2011

The all time classic of kite waist harnesses! The Styler comes with the familiar Double Hook Attachment and a complete neoprene padding that keeps the harness firmly in place. The Full Protection Hook Mounting System protects you from bruises and rib injuries. The fit of the Air-Styler was also improved and the excess strap lengths are now easier to stow away.

NKB TRANSFORMER 2011

Just like the Air-Styler, the new Transformer scores with unpreceden-ted wearing comfort and fit. Excess straps are neatly stowed away.

NKB PERFORMER 2011

The Performer permits a lower hook position compared to waist har-nesses. Apart from neoprene paddings and an individually adjustable back position, the Performer also features the Full Protection Hook Mounting System to protect you from bruises and rib injuries.

NKB KITE VEST 2011

A little padding around the chest does not make a Kite Vest. Only a per-fectly fitting vest will reliably fit you. We used a double internal Velcro neoprene strap system that can be individually adjusted for a perfect fit. Once adjusted, the vest is easy to put on and take off by opening the strap at the lateral zip. Additional connection straps keep the vest firmly attached to the harness and hold the vest at the correct position. As always, we offer two versions of the Kite Vest: one for seat harnesses and one for waist harnesses (without protection in the harness area).

PACKS & BAGS 2011

COlOUREd VERSION = pOpBlACK VERSION = SOUl

NKB DAYPACK 2011

The backpack for your travels, the beach and the office, is a little larger, to make sure that you really have enough space to pack everything you need. A large main compartment provides sufficient storage space and an outside pocket holds smaller stuff, such as pens or your iPod. The integrated padded laptop case is accessible, both from the inside and from the outside, for fast and easy access to your 17" notebook. The interior sunglasses pocket is padded for protection. The daypack comes with a transpa-rent Liquid Bag with one liter storage space that is compatible with common hand luggage regulations.

NKB TRAVELBAG SMALL 2011

A wonderful bag for short trips or as hand luggage on lon-ger journeys. Most airlines should permit this bag as hand luggage. The detachable backpack on the front holds your books, mags, iPod and laptop. The laptop case is accessible from the inside and from the outside and your sunglasses are also well protected in the interior padded sunglass pocket. More comfort and ease don’t fit into a bag.

NKB TRAVELBAG LARGE 2011

The new Travelbag Large is a super solid, yet light-weight bag to help you save unnecessary weight and expenses on your trips. The interior shoe compart-ment is easy to access from the outside so that you can quickly change your sneakers for flip-flops. The shoe bag is completely separate from the interior compartment. Three handles and sturdy rolls make the bag easy to move around. The new piggyback combo allows you to fasten your Combibag on your Travelbag Large with only two buckles and move them as one through the airport.

S i z e S : 90 x 38 x 34 cm

NKB BEACHBAG 2011

North Kiteboarding presents the third pimped edition of the North Beachbag that features an integrated wet compart-ment for your wet shorts, wetsuit or towel. With large and small carrying straps it is comfortable to carry on your side or as a backpack.

NKB COMBIBAG 2011

Every kiter should own one of these. The NKB Combibag easily holds two boards and three kites and you can stow everything in one compartment. The bag is perfect for a short trip or to pack your entire holiday luggage. The minimalist design keeps the bag’s weight as low as possible. The new piggyback combo allows you to attach the Combibag to your Travelbag Large and pull them as one. Plug & play, the easiest handling ever!

Up to two boards, 3-5 kites, bars, pumps, harnesses and wetsuits can be packed into this bag. The Quiverbag includes a wet compartment for wet stuff and, due to its amazing stowage capacity, it must have rolls for easy handling!

WOMEN

APPAREL 2011Really nice to see, is that still more and more girls join the world of kitesurfing. And with these girls, more and more needs in fashion enter to the male world of kiteboarding. We support all the girls and try to have lots of different styles for every self confident girl. Not just to wear at the beach – but wherever you are!

As not every girl wants total sensory overload with regards to clothing, the result 2011 is a mix of modern and classic, punk and fancy, with many details and with the right item for every occasion. Designed by women for women. Show the boyz, who’s wearing the breeches!
