I would like to thank all those who sent cards and dropped off Christmas goodies, etc. to the rectory bringing Christmas cheer. I appreciate your thoughtfulness. I feel very blessed to be pastor of St. Joseph Parish. Thank you all for your continued generosity of prayer, ministry participation and financial support to the parish throughout the year. Your active engagement truly keeps our parish Alive in Christ! May you have a Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. Let us con-tinue to pray for each other.

Father Bob Samson

Message from Archbishop Carlson

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

Each year, the people of our Archdiocese have been asked to make a special gift on Christmas Day to support our seminarians at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. The men of our seminary, who have responded to Christ’s call to follow Him, are truly a gift to the Church and to the Archdiocese of St. Louis. It is these men who will bring the faith given to us by Christ 2000 years ago to future generations here in the Archdio-cese of St. Louis. I ask you once again to pray for vocations and for all our priests and seminarians. I also ask you to be generous in your donation to the Christmas Day collection which helps pay the day-to-day expenses and maintenance of our seminary. Please be assured of my prayers for you during the season of Christmas. May the Lord of life come into your hearts and homes in a special way during this holy time of year.

2018 Contributions The last opportunity to make a 2018 contribution through the offertory collection will be next Sun., Dec. 30. The parish of-fice will be closed on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Any checks that are mailed must be postmarked by Dec. 31 and online gifts must be made by Dec. 31. Thank you for your generosity to our parish throughout the year!

Due to the fact that Christmas Day and New Year’s Day land on Tuesday this year, there will

be no Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for the next two weeks. Also, there will be no 8:00am Mass on Dec. 24 or on Dec. 31.

Stewardship Awareness “For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy.” Luke 1:44 When you hear the scripture readings and Gospel reading each Sun-day, do you “leap for joy?” If not, don’t blame the lector or priest. Rather, look inside yourself. Do you prepare for Mass each week or do you just show up and expect to be entertained? We are called to be active participants, not passive bystanders.

Welcome to Jane Hicks

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! Visitation

We are almost there! Just two days before we celebrate the great birth of our Savior, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. In the Gospel, Mary visits her relative to share the joy she is experiencing as the mother of God. It is appropriate for us to consider those people in our own lives who could use a joyful message right now. Maybe it is a relative who is suffer-ing a serious mental or physical illness. Maybe it is someone mourning the loss of a spouse, a child, or a relative. Maybe it is someone who is struggling to find work or who is having finan-cial problems. Whatever person you determine God is calling you to console, embrace this great task. Christians are people who believe in a God-man who came to earth so that we might experience the fullness of joy and the fullness of life. We are not called to settle for mediocrity or to allow others to settle for it. Do not hesitate to share the joy with those people who need it most during this beautiful time of the year. Like Mary, we have surprising experiences that take us aback (albeit not bear-ing the Son of God), but let us press on with haste to bring oth-ers the Good News of salvation even in our own struggles.

Are you 70 1/2 or older? Do you have savings in IRAs?

St. Joseph can help you reduce your taxes. Make your Sunday and special collection donations through the IRA charitable rollover. It will be a

tax-free gift. The law allows you to transfer directly from your IRA without paying taxes on the distribution and this gift can satisfy all or part of your required distribution. The transfer doesn't generate taxable income or a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you don't itemize your tax deductions. Call the parish office for a form to help you allocate your funds for the various Sunday collections.
