2I will write about a dream that is coming true, an achievement that is finally accomplished, a harvest that is finally reaped, the beginning, and the first issue of 2015.
I read a tweet that intrigued me once. The tweet read: the Kingdom has the most number of YouTube viewers in 2014.
And that is how we chose the theme for our first issue of the year! Our search for the creative Saudi YouTubers began. The journey was certainly an enjoyable one. We met a lot of Saudi YouTubers and heard their stories and how they made it.
We transferred their knowledge and reached out to the general public via a workshop series called #U_Tuber organized with UTurn, a leading YouTube company. Our workshop had 20 attendees going through several topics such as directing, shooting, and marketing. The workshop aimed to provide the participants with all the tools needed to become a successful YouTuber.
YouTube is a boundless portal of creativity. Making a video takes you through a process of writing, shooting, creating, drawing, music and others. Success and popularity do not come easy. There are no better demonstrators of that saying than out YouTubers who have worked hard to reach where they are today.
If there is anything, the YouTubers left us with it is: To Be Yourself and Change For No One! We would like to thank all of our YouTuber participants in this issue.
Finally I would like to say that fame comes with responsibility, and the difference between a shining star and a dimming one is how seriously they have taken their responsibilities.

We started by shooting simple videos then our father advised us to start a YouTube channel and he helped us through it. Every time we achieve something we aim higher. Our parents are our supporters. Honestly we never thought of the idea of becoming Youtubers but we tried it and it worked. The subjective criticism was the obstacle we got. We never think of quitting.. A funny situation happened once when we were shooting an episode and the camera fell breaking the lens.
Our advise to the talent people is To Be Yourself. To do it with great determination and never listen to those who aim to put others down.
the significant thing about our show is that we are only three people behind it and we have partnerships with companies and our show is also very spontaneous. We come up with the topics from our daily life and current events. Our viewers loved our ninth episode. It was about studying and exam results.Weve done around 25 episode.and the highest number of viewers wea about 2 million.
We love you.. Wait for us.

My name is Adham Mohammad Alzanbagi, 22 years old, born in Jeddah, and a student at the Television and Radio Media. I act, direct, and produce. I discovered my talent 10 years ago. I faced some obstacles but Success is always full of obstacles so facing them is an inevitable thing. I have an international aspirations. I will always do what I do and I hope to offer something the people will enjoy. I want to tell my family that hopefully, one day I will make you proud by winning an Oscar. I wish if cinemas would exist here so we would exert all of our creative energies in local productions. We support the cinematic arts because it is the most sophisticated type of art in spreading cultures...

I admire the famous TV presenter John Stewart and I hope to reach his level one day.Sometimes I work on something really hard and it ends up being deleted whether the reason for that was valid or invalid.
At the beginning I didnt put much efforts to reach the top. I only did one episode and it went viral. But after that one episode, I have been working hard to maintain my success by keeping a clear head and working hard. I respect myself and my audience and try not to let fame get into my head. Dont change unless it is for the better. Reaching the top is easy but staying on top is the challenge.
There is a competition between YouTube and television, which is inevitable. There are those who look down on YouTubers and there are those who see YuoTubers as pioneers in a new field. Those who criticize will never reach anywhere.
I honestly dont want to post anything anywhere I else on social media. I get what I want to say through my show. I like that i have Determination. If I wanted to do something, I do it with great determination.
The highest episode viewers was 300 million and the lowest was 1 million and a half. In my opinion, the best was the episode before the last in the second season and the worst episode was the last episode in the first season.
35
I started in television. I hopped from channel to channel. I was in Ekhbariya TV, Art Sports Channel, and Line Sports Channel. After all of these channels have shut down I began to think of completing my studies abroad. I had about six months to kill so I joined this YouTube channel called Sa7i. I had no idea it would turn into a permanent part of my life. I was a working for Sa7i channel and they passed me the chance to present a new political commentary show that is expected to get 1 million views by the end of the year. So I said ok and we did the first episode and got 1 million views by the first week. That show is Yatbaoun!
We have to start
criticizing to develop
Sa7is was temprorary
experience, I didnt think itll become a transition point in my

Project Name is (Ana Abkhas)Project idea is to offer something social and comedic. A group of 4 friends were behind the idea.we get our inspiration from daily life situations. The host usually decides the topics of the show and then consults the others. Our biggest success was in the episode on marriages
Our supporter is Eighties. They provide us with everything. The obstacles we faced was that We did not have much to start with. To me, Success is a long journey in which we only achieved a step.My advice to anyone who would like to join YouTube is to finish school first.
What is the highest number of viewers we had for an episode was more than half a million and we wish to always bring fresh materials to our viewers.
About Khalid Abdulaziz:Aspirations constantly change through time.
But for now I wish to get into the cinema industry. Ahmad Hilmy influenced my media
career. A talented person in the Kingdom needs the suitable atmosphere to make it
The hardest obstacles I overcome was balancing work and study. Also, my moodiness
is something that I want to get rid of.
A word to a decision maker Tawfiq Al-Rabi, thank you from the heart.

During Ramadan season, it was two episodes per week, each episode is about 5 minutes long. We want to keep on this throughout the year, with a variety of content.
Basically the videos were divided into 3 parts, the first one was called:Hilo Wa Hadiq which was mainly food recipes,The second one was named Kalimah in which we hosted people in various specializations and , our first host was Dr. Jumama Jalal , a nutritionist and the second one was Dr. Shadi Khawandana , the CEO - Chairman of the board of Special Direc-tion Company. Our third part was called Tabatik which is an easy creative way of doing useful crafts and DIY (Do it yourself).

Turki Sheikh said: I got a call from Sabbagh and he told about the idea and casted me for a part in it. He saw me in previous works. The actor Nawaf Al-Thufairi said: I also got a call from the director. I have never been in a drama show before. My background is theater. I performed in the famous Aida Opera Theater in Egypt and Cash was a new experience in my artistic career. The actor Hamzah Hawsawi said: I started as an actor for a cin-ematic work by a Saudi director named Shahad. I had an acting and singing role in that production and in another. The director saw me in those two works and gave me a call about Cash. The actor Abdul-majeed Alrihaidi, who has Bachelors degree in theater and acting from Egypt, said: Cash was my first work on YouTube and I am very glad with the experience so far. The actor Abdulrahman Yamani said: I started as a theater performer in school plays. Cash is my first real acting job. I was the last person to join the cast.
Actually, my father suggested my name for the show when he met the producer. I met the director and I was casted. The actress Marwa Salem who came from a broadcasting background said: I knew the director Mohammad Sabbagh a long time ago and he always asked for me to act in his productions. When the idea of Cash was being made real, I finally joined as a lead actress.
Cash is a comedic drama on YouTube like no other. It has its own flavor and spot on the Saudi YouTube shows map. The idea CASH started with the director Mahmoud Sabbagh who gathered the team from his experience.

I am Suhaib Qudus, my brother is Faris Qudus and we work together on our YouTube channel Al-Khatireen. In our channel we have various sketches. Our last sketch and our main project is a sketch called Dead But Walking Among Us. It has five episodes and it is a drama series. This project is what led us to Telfaz. Together we work on our channel & with Telfaz independently. Faris is the editor here in Jeddah and the content manager. Telfaz started in Riyadh in 2011 with the vision to encourage Saudi culture and creativity. It started with one show called La Yikthar. There were many pilots for many shows but La Yikthar was the one that succeeded. From there, the channel expanded to other shows such as Timsa7. I should mention that C3 Films is the main production house and Telfaz is a product of the company.

OUR ASPIRATION:Suhaib: I dont have a limit. The sky is the limit. I never want to stop learning. Its nice to learn from the experts and the amateurs. Faris: personally I just want to be happy in what I do.
If we were a decision maker for YouTubers in Saudi Arabia We would facilitate the equipment to the creative minds out there. They need the materialistic and moral supports. Materials can be cameras or shooting places. We would also love to share our experience and be out there.
Funny predicament...we had a lot. When we were shooting Dead But Walking Among Us, we had a scene in a restaurant. It was named Khubz and Zayton. The series is about drug addicts who do drugs. So supposedly everyone in the scene will be acting and taking fake drugs. We informed the restaurant and we sent them our script but I think they did not read it. We had an agreement to shoot for 12 days. Then suddenly, after shooting a good amount in that location, our location manager came and said that the restaurant does not want us to shoot anymore. So Faris and I went to the manager and explained everything. He eventually said fine but we should tale everything with us and not leave anything behind.

Now we are on a new show called Kees under Al-Khatireen channel. Al-Khatireen channel displays shows annually. We did Dead But Walking Among Us at the end of 2013 and soon we will start the new show in mid 2015. Mainly entertainment but we like putting our goals in hidden messages. For example, the show Dead But Walking Among Us was a very daring show. It talked about a lot of things and it showed some controversial scenes such as hashish and everyone in the show was a drug addict. But we were using reverse psychology to get our message against drugs across. When we started the show Dead But Walking Among Us. We did everything on our own from casting to budgeting.
We Joined Telfaz mainly due to the team spirit which attracted us to join immediately. We all exchange knowledge and share opportunities and that is really something golden. We just reached a point where our next step to success was to join Telfaz.
KEES It is the first comedy show produced in Jeddah. Its producer is Muaid Al-Nifaie. He wrote three episodes and he was looking for a team to carry the work through. The show is about the rejected ideas in a brainstorming session. Every episode we shot the rejected ideas as a sketch. We dont show the audience which idea was the one chosen by the team, we just present all of the rejected ideas. Its entertaining to start with. The messages are in the sketches themselves. An example is a show on inappropriate kids show. The show teaches kids things they should not know. For example a small boy goes to a girl and says when you get older dont ask for a large sum for a dowry. You wont get married and youll end up a spinster. That sketch upset a lot of people. But its message was that our education system is teaching kids they should not know. They teach kids about hellfire and things that children should not worry about at that age.
Lets separate Al-Khatireen channel from Telfaz. As for Al-Khatireen, we just finished producing a short film called Al-Sakrah but its not posted yet. We will continue with short films for a few more productions and then we will have another drama series called Silhouettes. As for Telfaz, we always focus on cultivating local talents. We had a show for gamers called Jagabov. It is directed to gamers only because in the past YouTube was one destination for the viewers. Once shows started to develop and increase, you began to have a fan base for each show. Telfaz is the main umbrella and some of these shows are done in collaboration with other channels.
54
55
There is the ideal way for starting a YouTube show, and there is the actual way. The way we run things:First we have workshop sessions. All the creatives sit together and brainstorm for the next project. Then we have a writing session where the writers write what was said in the brainstorming session as a script. The script then goes back to the creative team to proof read it. After that it goes to the director. Then production starts. Things like shooting schedule, castings, locations, etc begin to be arranged. After they confirm everything we make in one unified calendar and we start shooting. The next step is production where they start offline editing which is just to put it in sequence of script. Then it goes to color correction and sound engineering. Then the editor and director and add music done live.
Faris: I would like to add that its much more artistic and creative than it sounds. You might have an idea while showering and then come to the director and share it.
Thank you for the interview.

For this issue, 90D has collaborated with UTurn, the most widely known Saudi YouTube company, to design the first educational program in the Kingdom and the Gulf region on How To Become a YouTuber. According to Googles statistics, Saudi Arabia has the most YouTube viewers around the world. This made YouTube the perfect platform for young and raw Saudi talent to be showcased. Many of the Saudi YouTubers start with basic equipment and personal efforts. Therefore, 90D wanted to cultivate these skills and direct their efforts through training workshops to help them brush up their performance. The program was well received as it offered workshops on scenario writing, directing, video making, producing. Many talented participants attended the workshops which made 90D plan to expand the program to other cities in the Kingdom.

Did you get closer to the people through YouTube?Greatly! The Kingdom is one of the top countries worldwide in terms
of YouTube viewers. Having a YouTube show allowed us to reach a great mass of people abd provide essential for their wellbeing.
Is your YouTube show one of its kind or do you face some competitions?
Honestly, there isnt a local show dedicated to health. We stand alone!
What made you stand out?Our content is always correct and we add our expertise as doctors
into the show. Other programs would be presented by health enthusiasts but we are in fact the people to go to when in need of
health advice. We also present the content in a simple way that suitable to all cultures in the society.
What gain from what you do? (financially and ethically)We gained a lot of knowledge and experience. We learned how to
work a camera and produce a video and we cooperated with a lot of companies and were features in a lot of festivals and events. Along
the way we did make some profit.
Are you satisfied with your overall experience and current status?
I am very satisfied and hopeful for even further success and bigger aspirations.
What do you plan for in the future?I find the health movement lacking in the Kingdom despite all of the
current efforts. That is why I am dedicating all of my time to it.
Tell us about Mizan health series:We post episode on health irregularly. We used to post three episodes
a week then we started having monthly episodes. It depends on the occasion and need of the issue.
What are the most common health topics you featured in your show?
The most prevalent issue is being overweight. We even had two guests in which we worked on setting a program for them to lose
weight and we monitored their progress as part of the show.
Did you taste success from the beginning?Yes, people were desperate for such a program. Most of inquiries
were on losing weight in Ramadan and quitting smoking.
What creative message would you like to pass on to our readers?I want to mention Einsteins quote here Imagination is more important than knowledge. Always think creatively and know that there isnt a single way to make. Make your mark in the world!
Arent you afraid of the competition? No not at all. We do what we do to deliver a message.
Do you care receiving feedback? We communicate with our viewers via YouTube and often poll our fans to get statistics. We learned that in college.
Do you pick your topics randomly or do according to need?We dont choose our topics randomly but we present what is of the interest of the people.
Have you faced any difficulties in posting sensitive content? We usually post very general content that is of the interest of everybody. Sensitive content, in my vies does not belong to YouTube.
What is the role of your partner Obey?He is my best friend and we founded Mizan together. We may be doing different tasks but we have the same passion and views.
Any last words?Health is not just a field in life. Its an important social issue that
is directly linked with our happiness. I would like to thank 90D for featuring me and I wish success upon everybody. We gained a lot of knowledge and experience. We learned how to work a camera
and produce a video and we cooperated with a lot of companies and governmental directories and were features in a lot of festivals and
events. Along the way we did make some profit.
67
Your personal profile:I am Rayan Karkadan. I am 25 years old. I studied medicine and
surgery but left the practice completely. We began a YouTube Show on health and awareness and then started a company called Mizan
where we give advices on social media and lectures in events.
How did the idea of Mizan start? It started when we were still in medical college and were doing
researches regarding the most prevalent health issues in our society. We got to know the people of our society that way and we got to
know their health issues.
Was the entire thing self-initiated or did something happen which led you to do what you do?
There was no particular incident. We just realized that there was a big gap between the people and their awareness of their own health. On top of that, there was a shortage of credible Arabic resources. For
that reason we started the show on YouTube to limit the increasing number of diabetics, heart disease patients, and obesity patients.
How was the implementation of the idea?We started as a group called Daam (Support) where we met
with people from the community and conducted interviews with them regarding their health problems. We would offer quick health solutions and consultancies. That way we got an idea of the health
problems in this community and published the interviews on YouTube. Two years ago my friend Dr. Obey and I started the show Mizan.
Where do you get your financial support from?Currently we are a self-funded company as we havent found a
sponsor yet.
How do you conduct your sessions and lectures? Do you focus on entertainment or advice? We vary in our episodes. Sometimes we give direct lectures and other times we narrate stories. But mainly we present the information as a report.
What made you leave the medical practice?Every occupation has its important message in serving society. I found my message in peoples health through Mizan. In anyways, I havent left the medical practice completely.
Did you face any oppositions from your family when you decided to give up your career as a doctor and social benefits that come with the title?I was greatly opposed which is natural to anyone who wants to do something different. However, after the while they accepted it but not after numerous criticisms.
What other obstacles did you face in implementing your show? The biggest obstacle I faced is the financial support. In addition to getting the licenses for our events and for shooting at certain places. But we will persevere.
Do you have an artistic and mutual supporter? There isnt a main supporter for us and our work. We gain our support from our families, friends, and acquaintances and we learn from their comments and constructive criticism.
If you were an official at the Ministry of Social Affairs what decision would you make happen?I would invest in the youthful talent of our country. There is a great deal of talent and passion among the Saudi youth.
Rayan & Obey are two Saudi doctors who have dedicated their knowledge and medical
experience to YouTube viewers. That must have
been a hard decision but the venture was worth it!
They have contributed to their society and raised awareness
regarding health. The following interview was

Starting with the performer Almutasim,
Tell us about your role in the show?My name is Almutasim and I am a host at the show. I do some sketches, perform at festivals and I am a member of the Jeddah Comedy Club. I also do some modeling.
As a multi-talented star, how do you balance it all and stay grounded?I wouldn't say I am multi-talented but I do work hard. I define myself as an actor more than anything as I was in a few sketches with Telfaz 11 in addition to this show.
Now to Dareen, tell us about yourself and your role in the show:My name is Dareen Albayedh and I am an actress in Ana Wa Hiya show. I'll be a host in the second season of the show and I'll join Takki in its second season. I also do modeling on the side.
How do you balance and link between acting, hosting, and modeling? It is quite hard but as my co-actor Almutasim said all I have to do is work hard and let the people judge.
73
74
Please explain to us the idea and your message to the people:Our idea is to shed light on the social dynamics of girls and guys. We mention the common misconceptions and points of view and the whole idea of the male jealousy.
Another cast member is the talented Tashkandi, tell us what you think the message of the show is:We put the regular everyday life on camera and highlight what happens between families and young guys and girls with a touch of comedy. We put our work out there and the response was very positive.
Dareen added:The other thing about our show is that we made sure it is not screened in a directing way. It just lets people say Oh that happens to me too without telling them what to think.
Tashkandi also added:Our episodes are suitable for all ages and both genders.
Almutasim, how many members of the cast there are for Ana Wa Hiya?We are 12.
Who is your main financial supporter?UTurn

And you Mohammad Asiri:I am a new face in the second season. I will be acting.
And you Firas:I am a model in the team.
Going back to Almutasim, tell us how did the show start:I got the idea when an incident during a Eid family gathering happened. The family was conversing and the topic of whos prettier men or women. The discussion heated up and everyone was strongly defending their view. I asked myself then, why do not conversations like these get shot and posted on YouTube for the world to see! Although it was a simple event, it still represented many families.
Can we say that you are the brain behind the idea?I did have the idea but Fahd Salali helped me shape. My goal was to offer something simple and quick for the people.

How old is the show? A year.
Are the ideas for the show a result of a writing workshop or just one writers task?We would meet in brainstorming sessions and come up with ideas for the show.
What are the obstacles the show faced? Before joining UTurn, getting permissions to enter places for shooting was extremely difficult.
What is the shows biggest success?Getting the Silver plaque from UTurn.
Tashkandi, what do you advise anyone who would like to join the world of YouTube? They have spontaneous and firm about their views.
What about you advice, Almutasim:They should have confidence in themselves and not let anyone put them down or prevent them from continuing in their path.
And yours Dareen:Everyone should work hard and put his heart into what he wants to achieve.
Almutasim, what motivates you to keep going? The viewers and their support.
Which episode is the best? The episode about mothers was really well done.
Which had the biggest number of viewers? The one about harassment had three million views. The least number of views was 405,000 for the Ramadan episode.
Any last words to the readers?Follow our work and hopefully you will be pleased. We move forward by your support!

Mohammad Makki, the director and his experience:I am Mohammad Makki, the person behind the idea, the writer, and director. I graduated from King Abdulaziz University with a degree in business and I am 26 years old.
How did you start in the show-making business?Honestly, I started when I was 15 years old. I always loved directing movies. I would produce short movies with relatives. Then, when we would go to Indonesia my uncle would take me to cinema theaters and artistic locations. I was mesmerized by what I saw in this profession and I decided to become a real director. This passion drove me to produce a short movie called Badry which earned the third prize in the Dubai Cinematic Festival. After this breakthrough, my family advised me to go and study directing at a professional university.
How did Takki start?Takki is a drama show on YouTube which started in 2011. I was inspired by real events to write the story and we shot the pilot and showed it to UTurn who accepted the show and supported it.
Now, on to the star of the show Ali Alsharif. So tell us, who is Ali Alsharif?I am one of the actors in the show. I have a Bachelors degree in computing. I got into show business as a musician first. Then I did some ads as a model and from there I fell in love with acting. That is how I got into Takki.
So Mohammad Makki, what are your future ambitions? To marry and settle down and continue producing successful and popular television and cinematic works.
Ali Alsharif, what about you?I would like to reach the cinema industry and be a part of purposeful movies.
And Mohammad Makki, who had the biggest influence in your life? Its my uncle because he introduced me to the field.
And you, Ali Alsharif? There isnt anyone in particular but I do get influence by international stars, especially in Egyptian theater.
If there anyone standing in your way, Mahammad Makki? No, but there are competitors that I have to rival.
And you, Ali Alsharif? For me, the person who is standing against is my biggest supporter.
What are the obstacles that you are facing, Mohammad Makki? The biggest obstacles are finding a professional work crew and financial support so I can continue to do what I love to do in the quality I can.
79
...
.. .
Takki A YouTube drama was a true challenge for the Saudi audience specially that there were so many successful shows standing as competition. Nevertheless, the show persevered and held its resonating name high. Takki is a drama series with one storyline carried by remarkable actors and 90D got the chance to sit down and talk to the crew.
80
.
.
Is there anything you would like to say to a decision maker? We would like you to please open a cinema theater.
Have you ever found yourself in despair and decided to stop?Too many times to count but it never stopped from doing what I do because I believe I was going to be successful.
And you, Ali Alsharif?Yes, because acting opportunities are so slim in our culture so you can be easily forgotten.
What is a bad habit you would like to change about yourself, Mohammad Makki?Laziness and procrastination.
What is the secret of your success?I always care about developing myself, accept challenges, and work hard throughout my life.
Any last words?I would just like to thank our audience and fans. Thank you for being patient with us and dont forget to tune into the second season of Takki.
Ali Alsharif, any last words?I would like to thank 90D for the interview and its support to all creatives.

Example: taking the idea presented above, it conveys the themes of survival in the insects world. We can go with that theme. Now what you have to do is thoroughly research your theme. Use resources from books, movies, websites, articles, photographs, and anything and everything you can get relating to the theme. Also, write down every single idea that comes to your mind. No idea is dispensable yet. Sometimes, silly ideas grow to be the brilliance of your work. Always keep track of your references and thoughts to end up with a comprehensive script. After that step, you will be the master of your own idea. You will have the confidence to bring this work to life.
The next step for you, now, is to detail the rest of the story. Take a look at these three important steps first:
1- You must first know what you want to tell the audience. What is your message? Our message for the Bugs World idea can be; never lose hope even when all doors seem closed.
2- Then define the effect you want to give the audience. Do you want them to cry? Laugh? Be inspired? Be amazed? And so on.
-3 Again, write everything that comes to your mind. You never know which idea will fit in where, even if it seems embarrassing and silly at first.
In this article, we will mainly address the first stage, planning the story. For that, we need to know:1- What are we writing about?2- Write a synopsis of the story. Its not hard at all! Lets take the following example:
A new entertainment company called Bugs World. How is it entertaining?
It gets various species of bugs and puts them in a field. Then it shrinks humans and releases them, armed, into the field to battle life-size insects. The humans put there now have to capture as many insects as they can. The main character of the script is a biologist who was one of the chosen people to be shrunk and thrown in this field. However, unlike the other people, the biologist is not interested in capturing the insects. He is interested in finding specimens of living organisms. While he is there, his reception got cut off from the company and will now have to survive alone.
So what will he do? And what are the adventures that he will face?
After completing the synopsis, you can start on defining the theme of the story. This could take hours, but if you do it right, you will have an exciting and intriguing plot.
99
If you faced any of the problems above, then you have come to the right page. This article will talk about the stages of a story and how to write in scenes. That way, youll be able to write scripts quicker with satisfactory results.Sure, some people can say: its not that complicated. Just sit down and write a script. Thats not a very good tactic. Would you build a house without the blueprint? To build a quality building you would need quality material and construction equipment. Writing a script is no different! You need to plan your idea and then write it.
Writing a script can be divided into two stages:1- Planning the story: the plot, characters, and events.2- Write the storyline as scenes: here you add all of the details needed to tell the full story.
How to write a script?
Many writers waste weeks and months on fruitless efforts to write a script. With no idea how to begin, they usually stare blankly at their keyboards and say: this isnt a story, this is bullshit!
These are some of the obstacles most people face when they sit down to write:1 You have a good idea, but you are not able to develop a story from it.2 You brainstorm for hours with no avail.3 You start writing and then dont know how to do it right.4 You have half of the script down, you spent weeks working on, and suddenly you realize that you couldve done a better job or you have to redo it all over again.
