o. FOREWORD
0.1 This Indian Standard ( First Revrsion ) was adopted by the IndianStandards Institunon on 31 January 1985, after the draft finalized by thePest Control Sectional Committee had been approved by the Agriculturaland Food Products Diviston Council and the Chemical Divrsron Council
0.2 Qjnnalphcs dusting powder formulations are used I n the control ofInsect pests of agricultural crops
0.3 QUinalphos dusting powder formulation IS generally mvnufactured tocontain 5 percent ( mim ) of qumalphos
0.4 This standard was first pubhshed In 1q76 It ISber ng revised to incor..porate latest packing and marking clauses Opportun tty has been taken togive reference to Ie; 6940..1982· for the sake of urn forrmty
0.5 In the preparation of this standard, due cormderation h \S been gwento the provIsions of the Insecucides Act, 1968 and the Rules framed there..under However, this st-mdard 15 subject to the restrictrous Imposed underthese, wherever applicable
0.6 For the purpose of decidmg whether a particular requirement of thisstandard IScomplied With, the hnal value observed or calculated, expres..sing the result of a test or analysis shall be rounded off 111 accordance With
IS 2..1960t The number of significant places retained In rounded off valueshould be the same as that of the specified value In this standard
1. SCOPE

4~ SAMPLING
4.1 Representative samples of the material shall be drawn as prescribed inIS : 10627-1983*.
5. TESTS
5.1 Tests shall be carried out by the methods as specified in col 4 and 5oCTable 1.
5.2 For determination of quinalphos content in the dusting powder formulations by the spectro-photometric method, prepare sample solution byaccurately weighing a sufficient amount of the sample in a paper thimbleto contain approximately 250 mg of quinalphos and extract in a Soxhletapparatus with benzene for 6-7 hours, taking care to ensure that theextraction is complete. Recover as much of the solvent as possible in theSoxhlet, approximately 5 ml should remain and make up the remainingextract to 25 ml with benzene in a 25-ml volumetric flask. Shake. Transfer10 "I of the solution obtained, in duplicate, at the two starting points of thechromatographic paper. At the third starting point transfer similarly 10,..1solution of quinalphos, technical of known purity, containing approximately 250 mg active ingredient in 25 ml benzene solution,
5.2.1 Calculate quinalphos content as given below:p
Qpinalphos content, percent by mass == 9-62 X M
whereP phosphorus in sample read from the calibration curve; andM -= mass, in g, of sample taken for tests.
5.2.2 For determining quinalphos content by the volumetric methodtreat sample as for spectrophotometric analysis. Calculate quinalphos content by the following equation:
Quinalphos content, percent by mass = _v_ X 2-867m
wherev - volume, in ml, of standard sodium hydroxide solution
consumed; andm = mass, in g, of sample taken for the test.
5,3 Q,aaUt)' ofReaseat. - Unless specified otherwise, pure chemicalsand distilled water ( lei IS : 1070-1977t) shall be employed in tests.
